It was a normal afternoon when you went into the bookstore, the familiar quiet greeting you as the door shut. You ventured into the shop every couple of weeks to find new books to read. The man behind the desk didn't bother to lift his head long enough from his phone to greet you. You would think after your first few visits he'd at least offer you a smile or suggestion, but he never did. You were used to guys not giving you much attention.

Hey, all! My name is Lex and I am in the worst possible place I’ve ever been in financially, physically, and mentally. For those of you who do not know me, I am a professional body piercer in North Carolina. Last year I quit my full time job which was killing me mentally, to pursue my dream of becoming a full time, professional piercer. Things, while tight, were going perfectly fine until about 4 months ago when our shop owner stopped purchasing my jewelry. At the time I was also supposed to be paid a flat rate fee of $25 a day to go to the shop, keep the doors open, answer phones, help any clients that came in/messages our Facebook, and generally keep the shop running since our two artists were not present 80% of the time. I wholeheartedly believed in our shop owner and basically worked for free for almost two of those months, believing that he just needed a little time and things would be right back on track. I was very wrong. His mother convinced him not to pay me at all and the owner, himself, hasn’t even addressed it to me since, and hasn’t paid me for the time I worked. Eventually I broke down and got a job at Subway but my chronic back problems flared up worse than ever and sent me to the ER. Things have gone from bad to worse and I’m on the brink of losing everything. Last week I hurt my back again and had to go to the ER and the medicines are not working as they should. I cannot even stand up for longer than a few seconds without being in agony and I certainly cannot pierce like this. I am absolutely desperate for help. My parents keep encouraging me to come back home but they don’t understand that going back there will send me to the hospital for a grippy sock vacation because that house is where I experienced about 80% of my childhood trauma from verbal and emotional abuse. I have set up a GoFundMe page and I am literally begging for any help, even if it’s just to share this post…please, please help if you can. I do not take making a post like this, lightly.
