i’m sure everyone noticed this i just have to write it down so. in 4x13 adora broke the sword, broke free of her fake destiny, and afterwards she’s shown with her hair down for the first time right? so breaking free of her “destiny” = hair down.

one of the first scenes in season 5 shows us adora tying her hair up, and it’s kind of saying she’s still holding onto this old hero identity. we see this visual one more time at the beginning of heart pt. 1… after catra has left her, and she’s preparing to sacrifice herself.

in 5x05 when adora’s trying to save catra, her hair is in a ponytail at first, but it unravels during their fight. so her hair is down when she touches catra’s face and says “you matter to me!” and also when her love for catra allows her to transform moments later.

think for a minute about how adora risked everything for this mission–she didnt even know she could trust catra but she was risking her life and her friends lives and if they failed there would be no one to stop prime from destroying the universe. essentially in this episode she was choosing to prioritize catra over… everything, but especially over her supposed heroic destiny.

if adora breaking free of her “destiny” = hair down, and hair down = loving catra, then inference says that breaking free of her false destiny = loving catra. and then we have this moment…

also, in her dream of the future, she’s happy with catra, and her hair is down 😭

man the details in this show are absolutely incredible

GREAT question.. yall dont pretend like the original she-ra’s hair wasn’t completely ridiculous looking lmaoskldjfd. now we know her original form was a sham, so it makes sense the symbolism of her hair was a sham too. the idea that she-ra was helping adora break free of her destiny in the horde was just an illusion, both to adora and to the audience.

her new she-ra form gets at the idea of reclamation. she took the ponytail, aka the destinies other people thrust upon her, and decided for herself what her destiny would be.

look i might be stretching and these were just design choices but it makes too much sense imo

WAIT MICKEY QUINN’S BOARDS FOR 5X05 had catra actually pulling adora’s hair tie out HERSELF during the fight?? as opposed to the final version where it just falls out when adora tackles catra to save her from the explosion

the angst of it all hhhh i cannot believe-
