"Non faccio mai ascoltare i brani in anteprima a chi conosco: mi dà fastidio lasciar andare una parte di me prima di gridarla al mondo," parole di Fabrizio da una delle ultime interviste per Radio Italia... No vabé ma ci rendiamo conto che, se alla fine ha davvero fatto ascoltare il suo nuovo disco a Ermal per primo, facendo praticamente uno strappo alla regola, questa cosa che ha detto assume un significato secondo me enorme. ;;

“I never let people I know listen to my songs in advance: I am bothered by letting go away a part of myself before shouting it to the world”:these are FAbri’s words during a Radio Italia interview…so if he really let Ermal listen to them he broke his own rule, and it means really a lot…(english translation below)

Sono sempre stata convinta che Fabrizio provi dei sentimenti davvero profondi per Ermal, e sono convinta che davvero gli abbia fatto ascoltare il suo disco per primo. Altrimenti non avrebbe detto davanti a tutti, ad Assisi:«Ho pensato una cosa molto bella in questi giorni, sto scrivendo un nuovo album e la prima persona a cui voglio farlo sentire è Ermal»…interrompendo Carlo Conti come se non riuscisse più a tenersi dentro quel pensiero, che non era solo un pensiero ma una dichiarazione, indiretta, di quanto Ermal fosse importante per lui, artisticamente e umanamente…tanto da lasciare andare una parte di sé prima di gridarla al mondo, tanto da mostrargli una parte di sé che Ermal, in quanto artista che a volte mostra una parte di sé in quello stesso modo, e in quanto persona a lui vicinissima, avrebbe capito in modo più completo rispetto a chiunque altro.

(dico ‘a volte’ perchè a differenza di Fabri che scrive di sé e dei suoi interessi, Ermal non scrive sempre pezzi autobiografici o relativi a sé stesso, ha infatti detto che si ispira anche da storie di altra gente, o libri. Che poi li rielabori con la propria testa, cuore e anima è ovvio. Non è un commento negativo, solo una constatazione, dato che le fonti di ispirazione possono essere diverse)

Ermal aveva accolto quelle parole con stupore ed emozione, quasi bloccandosi all’inizio: la sua reazione mostra che, sia conoscendo Fabrizio, sia in quanto artista che mette tanto di sé nella sua musica, abbia capito quanto fosse importante quello che aveva detto.

E non è nemmeno l’unico strappo alla regola. Fabrizio ammette di essere una persona chiusa e diffidente, che non si lega facilmente e che, specialmente nell’ambiente dello spettacolo, ha legato con pochissimi. A Sanremo 2018 (mi pare a Casa Sanremo) ha detto che ascolta principalmente musica rock/metal e non ascolta musica italiana, facendo capire che si riferiva a colleghi contemporanei insomma, e che non lo faceva per non aggiungersi ansie. Che stesse scherzando o no, che il suo non ascoltare artisti italiani per ansia da confronto o semplicemente mancanza di interesse non cambia il fatto che nel 2017 è andato a Sanremo con Portami Via, e con tutte le sue ansie e insicurezze magnificamente rappresentate da quella canzone, e in quella tensione, proprio lui che è sempre concentrato sulla sua musica e sé stesso per dare il meglio, è stato talmente colpito da Ermal Meta e la sua Vietato Morire, che non solo ha sentito che le sofferenze di quell’artista erano anche le sue, ma ha deciso di diventare suo amico. Una persona diffidente e chiusa, che non segue la musica italiana, ha ascoltato un brano la cui qualità gli ha fatto provare interesse e ammirazione per il suo autore, e al di là delle tematica e dei loro percorsi diversi gli ha fatto sentire che erano simili, che c’era un’affinità tra le loro sofferenze. Anche questo è uno strappo alla regola.

E in fondo anche Ermal ne ha fatti. Lui che non ama il contatto fisico si è trovato non solo a lasciare che Fabrizio lo abbracciasse, accarezzasse, gli toccasse i capelli (cosa che odia, normalmente), ma si è trovato a visibilmente amare quel tipo di contatto, a cercarlo addirittura. Lui che è generalmente sarcastico o quanto meno ironico, accanto a Fabrizio si è comportato con una dolcezza quasi infantile, una sincerità quasi timida, anche nel suo modo di chiedere attenzioni del più grande. Anche i suoi scherzi erano più carini del solito. Lui che è sempre attento e vuole il controllo su tutto si è trovato a distrarsi, fissando Fabrizio, uscendosene con frasi a sproposito, lasciando all’altro il ‘controllo’ mentre lui sembrava proprio bearsi di quella condizione, avvolto dalla protezione di Fabrizio. 

Nel loro rapporto, insomma, mi pare che lo strappo alla regola sia esso stesso la regola, ed è una cosa molto bella.

I always thought Fabri’s feelings for Ermal are deep, and that he really let him listen to his new song cause he wouldn’t have otherwise said “I thought something beautiful these days, I’m writing a new album and the first person I want to show it is Ermal”…interrupting the presenter as if he coulnd’t keep that thought inside anymore, and it’s not just a thought but a declaration, indirect, of how Ermal is important for him, artistically and personally…so much that he let go a part of himself away to show it to Ermal who, as a fellow artist and a person close to him, would get it more deeply and completely than anyone else.

Ermal was surprised and emotional at those words, it shows that as someone who knew Fabri well and as an artist who often puts a lot of himself in his work, he understood how important what FAbri said was.

(I said ‘often’ and not always because not all Ermal’s songs are autobiographical or related to himself, his interests and passions and so on. He himself said he ‘fuels’ his creativity with reading books, and sure when he elaborates literary inspiration or other people’s stories, as he too said he did, he does it with his own soul, mind and heart putting a part of himself into them. It’s not berating him, just stating a fact about his varied sources of inspiration, which is cool)

It’s not even the only breaking the rule. FAbri is an introverted wary person who doesn’t easily bond, especially with people in the music industry. In Sanremo 2018, I think in Casa Sanremo, he said he mostly listens to rock/metal, not italian artists (colleagues) and he joked about being anxious…idk if he really was anxious about comparing himself to them or if he joked and he was just uninterested in colleagues’ music, as focused he is on his own, it doesn’t change the fact that in 2017 he went to Sanremo with Portami Via, with his anxiety and insecurity from back then, and in that tense state of mind and focus on his own music and performance he was so impressed by Ermal Meta and his Vietato Morire, that not only he helt that that artist’s suffering was his same one, but he decided to become his friend. A suspicious introverted person who doesn’t follow Italian music listened to a song whose quality made him admire the author and, beyond its theme and their different life paths he felt that they were similar and their sufferings were similar. This too is a break of his own rule.

Besides, Ermal too broke his own rule. He doesn’t like physical contact but he let Fabri touch, hug, kiss and smooch him, and touch his hair which he normally hates. He even loved it and wanted that contact from Fabri. He’s generally ironic or sarcastic but with FAbri there were times he was so sweet, even shy, almost childish, especially when he wanted Fabri’s attention. even his jokes were ‘lighter’ compared to the usual. He who wanted always control was distracted, staring at Fabri, saying random odd things related to Fabri, letting him ‘take the lead’ while he looked really happy to be in that situation, ‘enveloped’ in Fabri’s protection.

What I mean is that all in all breaking the rule seems a sort of rule itself in their bond, it’s beautiful.
