The End?

Well guys, this might be it. I thought I may have been back by now but I'm no longer feeling it at all. I had my game and story set for the next 'season' and everything. I even took some screenshots to prepare (last year) but it doesn't look like it's going to happen for now. Never say never. Everything could change in a flash BUT if it doesn't...

Thank you.

To every one of my followers. For all your notes, comments, messages and tags. To all those I followed. For your talent, humour and hours of selfless giving. To tumblr, despite your negatives, you gave me a platform to grow and share my stories. I will always be grateful for that and for the Sims community here.

I wish everyone all the best and you never know one day I could just suddenly start posting again. I may also appear occasionally in your notes.

Take care and to everyone, love and peace.

❤️✌️ Rae

OC Playlist Challenge by @marigoldeneyes

Take your sims/ocs and assign them a song that fits their character to make a little playlist for your characters. Post yours and tag as many people as you’d like :)

Thank you @reality-refuge for the tag! ☺

Carla: Follow the Sun Xavier Rudd

This was always meant to be Carla’s song. Close your eyes and listen and you can feel the sun and a light breeze on your face that a new day is dawning and it’s hopeful.

Denaris: Lost in Space Emmit Fenn

Lyrics for this one speak for themselves for Denaris

Andrew: Oil & Water TEEKS

There is a depth to this song that reminds me of Andrew. The lyrics  If I speak and nobody listens How do I know if I made a sound? relate very much to him.

Ananya: Better Together Jack Johnson

Pretty sure this is another one that speaks for itself

Yusun: Little Talks Of Monsters and Men

Yusun misses the ‘little talks’ she would share with Farah. The lyrics that mean something to her Well tell her that I miss our little talks; Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right Your mind is playing tricks on you, my dear She knows Farah is out there somewhere and not a ghost but some days are harder than others.

This is a pretty old tag but I will tag @mysimsloveaffair @treason-and-plot @fataleromeo @wannabecatwriter @pinkchocolatesims No pressure.

Anonymous asked:

I think your an excellent writer and my comment of this character in no way reflects any negativity to you as writer and creater. Carla however i cannot stand her. I have a very long winded personal reason, because, in a short summary; she reminds so much of somebody in real life who was somewhat similar. People like her just leave devastation in their wake, they don't mean to but its what happens... and its everybody else who has to pick up the pieces, while the agonise over it and then repeat the same mistake again. I hope Carla finally can just let all her woes and issues go, and sort herself out once and for all.

First of all, thank you for this anon. As a writer I take this as a huge compliment: that I have been able to write a character in such a way that they have an effect. I apologise, however, that it’s negative.

I have written this reply many times in my head although I haven’t exactly been sure how to respond. Do I defend Carla? Do I make excuses for her? I suppose I could but I don’t think it would help or change anything.

To be honest, I have found Carla one of the hardest characters to write. I struggle with her because I am not like her. Carla is logical. I’m not. Carla is clueless about her emotions and other people’s emotions; I am a very feeling person. I often felt that I could not write her properly or do her justice because of this. But I keep trying anyway, not because I ‘get’ her exactly, more that I can imagine her, if that makes sense. I can at least put myself in her shoes, in a way, enough to hopefully write her. She is a combination of a few people I know but no one in particular. It’s the only way I could write her.

You are right in that she doesn’t mean to ‘leave devastation in her wake’. In fact, she actually has no clue she could have that effect. Will she change? I don’t really know. I have a plot planned but the characters will take me where they want to go as I write it. Will she continue to bug you? Most likely. There are a number of things to come that will probably get under your skin.

I’m excited for the next part of my story. A lot will happen.

Thanks again, so much.

I apologise for disappearing again. Life is busy! My youngest daughter graduates high school this week and has her formal. (I was feeling it with Laura). So family is coming in and all the last minute everything. Hopefully I will be back next week. Thank you for your patience. ✌️❤️

(And anon, thank you! I will have a long reply for you soon 🙏)

Two weeks later the packing was done. They spent the last weekend at Carla’s parents in Willow Creek. On Sunday Carla would go one way and Nate and Matty would go another. Carla spent time with her friends while she was there. Well, Ananya and Denaris at least.

Ananya, Jayesh, Carla, Nate and Denaris went to dinner at The Den. There was never a shortage of conversation when the friends were together. There was so much to catch up on.

After dinner they retreated to the lounge bar downstairs to enjoy the warm and relaxed atmosphere. On the way, Nate took Carla’s arm and pulled her aside.

“I was trying to find a good time this weekend.” His face was serious. “I think if I don’t say it now, I might not get a chance.”

Carla looked puzzled.

“I think it was good coming back this year. For some reason it feels more like closure. Maybe for all of us? I don’t know.”

Carla contemplated his words.

“I’ll always be here for you, Carla. No matter what. If you ever need anything.”

Carla smiled. “Thank you, Nate. And vice versa? Always.” She reached up and kissed him on the cheek before they wrapped their arms around each other.

They started back down to the lounge.

Nate leaned close to Carla. “And just one more thing...” he said and walked toward the stage where a lone guitar stood. Carla took her seat.

Nate picked up the guitar and placed the strap over his head. He looked at Carla and began to sing.

“Don’t forget to give Arlo a cuddle for me every day.”

“Too easy,” Matty grinned. He was looking forward to encouraging Laura’s cat, Arlo, to sleep on his bed now.

Saying goodbye to Laura was one of the hardest things Carla had ever done. She couldn’t imagine not seeing her daughter every day. It didn’t matter whether they fought or Laura didn’t talk to her at all, Carla was going to miss her terribly.

She wasn’t ready to even think about Matt yet.

When the time finally came to say their last farewells, Laura held her mother a little longer than usual, much to Carla’s surprise.

“Stay safe, mum. Call me when you’re there.”

Carla held back the tears at this unexpected concern.

“I will. Let me know how everything is going. As often as you like.”

Laura nodded.

Carla watched in the side mirror as Laura’s form grew smaller behind them and knew in that particular moment, everything had changed.

It took barely any effort on Carla’s part to receive a job offer from Alkirakuroo Research Station. She simply emailed her resume to the address Dr Jones gave her and a couple of hours later she was offered a position as a lab technician. It was quite a step down from the position she once held but she wasn’t about to complain. She would be working in a lab again! Not just any lab. Alkirakuroo, one of the most mysterious and secretive labs in the country. She could feel the excitement bubbling just under the surface.

Dr Jones assistant emailed all the information regarding start date and accommodation once Carla accepted the offer.

Laura seemed to be the most impacted by the moving news. She sat in shock when her parents told her.

“I have to pack up everything now.” Her eyes were large and teary.

“You can leave some things with me,” Nate offered.

She nodded.

“I won’t have home to come back to anymore.” The tears fell dripping down to the corners of her mouth.

Nate moved to put a reassuring arm over her shoulders. “I’m sorry, love.”

Carla sat by helplessly.

Fortunately, by the time Laura was ready to leave she had come to terms with it a little more. It didn’t make leaving any easier though.

Laura’s neighbour and best friend Maddy was staying in Newcrest. It would give her a reason to visit, which helped a little. Maddy had opted out of university at this stage to take up a position in retail at one of her favourite clothing stores.

Everything was happening exceptionally fast for all of them. It was almost too much to take in.

“They’re not even really my friends. I mean, they are. We play soccer and stuff but it’s not like we’ re majorly close or anything.”

Matty had seemed excited at the thought of moving to the city. His parents wanted to make sure he knew what he would be giving up.

“You wouldn’t be too far away, would you, Mum?” He worried.

“No, what? A couple of hours from the city.”

Nate nodded.

“I’m just…not sure you could visit me but I could visit you.” She didn’t actually know that. She was only guessing. “Often.”

Matty nodded, reassured.

“And Laura won’t be far either.” Nate added.

“Yeh. Okay.” Matty kept nodding. “And I could go to the art centre with you dad, right?”

Nate chuckled. “Yep, as often as you like.”

Matty was getting excited. “Could I still play soccer?”

“I don’t see why not.”

“Yes! I can make new friends, mum.”

Carla nodded. “You can. And keep the old ones.”

“Yeh and keep the old ones.” Matty repeated. “On Simstagram.”

“Well, eventually on Simstagram, if they have it.” Carla shook her head. Matty didn’t even have a phone yet.

Matty nodded again, looking from one to the other. He jumped up and hugged his dad. “I’d like to live with you, dad.”

He crossed to his mother. “I wish we could always live together. All of us.” He hugged her too. “But I know you’ll be happier mum. You’ll get to do what you like again. And I want that too.”

Tears sprang to Carla’s eyes. She didn’t deserve this beautiful, selfless boy, with a heart of gold.

Laura had been accepted to Foxbury Institutes distinguished biology program. She was leaving in less than a week. Fortunately, Foxbury was only about three and a half hours north of Newcrest so, not too far. They were driving Laura out there to get settled well before her start date.

Carla’s excitement and wonderment from meeting Dr Jones almost pushed out the anxiety she felt over Laura’s impending departure. Almost.

Alkirakuroo. The name invoked curiosity and many unanswered questions. Carla tried to find more information about the place on the internet but all she came up with were the few news articles that had been published around the time the lab was destroyed. There was barely anything on the origins of the town and not much regarding it now. Even the information she could find seemed sketchy at best. Odd. Very, very odd.

She left the computer to search for Nate. She found him in the basement at his easel.

He didn’t look up from his painting when she entered and sat nearby. When she was quiet for quite some time he turned, looking at her carefully.

“Everything okay?”

“I was offered a job today.”

“What? Carla! That’s great!” He held the loaded brush aloft. “Isn’t it?”

“Kind of.”

He frowned. “Okay?”

“It’s not here.”

“Well, where is it?”

“Alkirakuroo.”

The furrow between his brow deepened. “Where have I heard of that?”

“There was a laboratory accident. Maybe nearly ten years ago?”

He started to nod. “I think I remember. It was in the news. Whole thing was a real mystery.”

“Yes. Well, I met this man today. He works in a new lab there and he told me to send him my resume.”

Nate studied her. He set his brush down and moved to sit next to her.

“What did you say?”

“I didn’t say anything. I’m not sure what to do.”

“How far is it? Isn’t it way out west somewhere?”

“Only about an hour and a half from Oasis Springs apparently.”

“I didn’t know that.”

“Me neither.”

“Well, do you want to?”

“Work there?” She sighed. “I would love to work in a lab again, especially in a place like that. I can only imagine what they might discover but…”

“But…”

“I have Matthew. I can’t just uproot him and take him out to the back of Burke. I don’t even think there’s a school there. From what I could find out, the kids are sent to boarding school at a young age. I couldn’t do that to him. What about his friends?”

Nate sat thinking awhile.

“He could come and live with me.” He lifted his blue eyes to hers. “It’s his second home. He knows a few kids in my building and there’s plenty of good schools.”

“Isn’t it a lot? I mean, a lot of change for him?”

“Well, if you really want to do this, we can ask him. See if it’s even something he would want. What do you think?”

Carla nodded. It would definitely help her decide.

Carla sat in the shade. The late afternoon sun filtered through the tree above her. She had spent an hour in the old observatory gazing into her beloved space. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

“Stressful day?”

She turned sharply, startled by the deep, gravelly voice. A white haired gentleman sat next to her calmly observing the park.

“Ah, yes, I guess.”

He nodded.

“Not a bad place to be when one is stressed.”

“Yes, that’s true.”

“Do you visit often?”

“Sometimes. Not as much as I would like. You?”

“Oh, I generally come about once a week. When I’m running errands.” He leaned back on the bench turning his eyes on her. They were a pale blue, almost white and piercing. “Do you live in Oasis Springs?”

She looked away from that penetrating gaze. “No. No, I live in Newcrest. That’s why I don’t come out much.”

He nodded.

“Do you? Live here, I mean.”

“No,” he said. “I live in Alkirakuroo.”

Carla turned swiftly. “Oh.” She knew that name. She thought deeply. “There was a lab there once, wasn’t there? Some time ago? They were investigating artifacts they found. The ones believed to be placed by the indigenous many centuries ago.”

“That’s right.” His eyes were steady on her. “That lab is gone now though.”

“Yes! There was some kind of accident, wasn’t there? An explosion or something.”

He shifted his head to the side. “Something like that.”

“Wow. So, you live there? That must be interesting.”

“I find it so.”

“It must be quite a distance from here. Out west?”

“It’s only about an hour and a half.”

“Really? I didn’t know that. It’s quite a way to come to run errands.”

“Well, Oasis Springs is the closest larger town. Alkirakuroo doesn’t have everything we need.”

“No. I can imagine.”

The man turned to look again at the observatory.

“Do you know much about that?” He pointed to it.

“No.”

“It was built in 1946.”

“Really?” She was surprised.

“In my grandfather’s backyard.”

She was fascinated.

“It was relocated a couple of years ago, refurbished and now brings joy to many.”

“It does.” Carla wondered at this odd man.

“You have an interest in science?”

“Yes.”

“Especially the science of the skies?”

“Yes, I do.”

“There is a new lab in Alkirakuroo now.”

“There is?” Her interest immediately piqued.

He nodded. “A military lab. Although it is privately run.”

“Oh.” Her heart was leaping.

“Have you had experience in a lab?”

“Yes.” She lost her voice.

He passed her a business card. “We are in need of lab technicians. Perhaps you would be interested? Send me an email and your resume.” He tapped the card. Dr Jones, it said. “I am Dr Jones and that is my email address.”

He stood up to leave.

“I look forward to hearing from you, Carla.” He tipped his non-existent hat, turned on his heel and was gone.

It wasn’t until she was in her car driving home, the conversation running over in her head, she realised, she never told him her name.

By Christmas, Caleb had been back at work for two weeks. He enjoyed the time off for the first month but once Shanice went back to work, he found he was restless, in need of exercise and missing his book shop and customers. He moved home at the end of six weeks feeling refreshed.

With Shanice back at work, Denaris focused on the kids, home now from school for summer holidays. He picked up the odd gig here and there, and finally joined a dart team who played regularly at the local pub.

Having Shanice return to work had been somewhat of a relief for him, much to his surprise. It was easier to distract himself without her there. Jacqui continued to perform in talent shows on a regular basis and Jadyn joined a summer basketball comp.

Life was busy and most days Denaris was in good health. There was only the odd few here or there where the old symptoms returned.

Overall, he believed he was doing okay. That it could have been worse.  Everyone had struggles in life and his weren’t really so bad.

The end of the school year was a whirlwind of non-stop activities for Ananya and her family. Not only were there school projects to finish or exams to study for but each child had class parties and extracurricular concerts, showcases and award nights to attend as well.

Not to mention Christmas events. There was the lighting of the Christmas tree in the town centre, followed by a parade and markets. The Willow Creek township held carols in Magnolia Blossom Park. Then there were the teachers’ gifts to make and cards for all the children’s friends.

School ended for the year one week before Christmas, so there was barely time to fit in the traditional drive through town to look at the houses lit up in festive style or get a family photo with Santa.

Every year Ananya started preparations early and every year there was a last-minute rush at the end.

This had always been Ananya’s absolute favourite time of year until she had lost Aarush. After that the sparkle was gone. Ananya continued to push through and complete every task but it wasn’t until this year that the joy in each began to build again. Overwhelming gratitude overcame her when she recognised the old feeling coming back.

She recalled Jayesh’s words to make Aarush part of the festivities. Part of their day to day. She struggled to start with. What could she do? Nothing was ever going to make up for him not being here.

After mulling it over she began by planting a special Christmas orchid. In summer and over the Christmas season, it would flower with precious pure white blossoms. Then she asked everyone to make Aarush a special ornament. When they decorated the tree that year, and every year after, they could place each one, remember him and make him part of that tradition.

Her favourite though was the stocking she made him to hang along with each of theirs. She suggested each family member add something to the stocking. A note, drawing or something else they might create. They would make a time in the busyness of their Christmas day to share the contents. These small additions were something at least, that would bring their family together.

For many years Ananya had made special parcels for those families at the hospital she had spent time with who had also lost a baby. This year would be the last time she would do it. Next year her time would be spent volunteering at the kindergarten Anika was attending. This was bittersweet for her. She would not lose touch with her families but it was time to move on.

Anika needed her and she didn’t want to miss a moment.
