“Well, yes, I do suppose these things are worthwhile for those who may actually participate in them.” As opposed to smaller nations like her who are merely there to…what? Pay lip service to the ones dominating the meeting? To be adoring sycophants? She has yet to figure that out.
“What is it like?” Lilli props her elbow on the bar and rests her chin in her hand while she studies Jan. The authority with which he carries himself is unmistakable. He is a quiet one during meetings, choosing not to shout but instead delivering a few well-timed verbal blows to maximum effect. Her previous governesses would swoon over his oratory skill.
“To have a voice? To have purpose at these things? To be seen and to be acknowledged at all?”

“I’m just there to get shit done. Everything else is a dick measuring contest and I’m already looking at my watch.”

However, it does not occur to Jan that there are those who are simply there for some kind of headcount show. It always seems to be the same ol’ crowd that gives a voice, an argument, some point that has to be overdrawn and beaten to death.

What is it like?

The Dutchman is suddenly at a pause, not expecting such a question and certainly not from Lilli. And yet, it seems like the very thing she would ask as a pondering expression finds him.

“I didn’t get there overnight. I was ignored. Laughed at. Not taken seriously. It was not something that fell into my lap if you must know.”

Why was he telling her these concealed thoughts? He always prided himself on making it look easy as the Johnnie Walker hits his lips.

“I think I’ve been doing it for so long now I don’t give it much thought. I let it fade. Because I do remember. I remember how good it feels. It takes a crapton of crazy hard work to make these clowns hear you. And now I guess you can say I take it for granted.”

“Oh! We might even see a fox or two! Maybe a deer? Oh! This is so very exciting!” Madeline takes Jan’s hands into hers, bouncing excitedly on the balls of her feet. “This is going to be SO much fun!”
Madeline beamed! Sure she had hiked in her own backyard but when has she REALLY appreciated her own wilderness? “I promise to make this enjoyable for you, Jan.”

Jan, who by nature is not exactly an excitable sort, but he certainly loves to see it in others and Madeline is darling.

“Hell yes, it is. I’ve not one damn doubt it will be enjoyable, mijn tulp. We need to get this squared away so we can meet back up with supplies. Will it be a night under the stars without all that damn light pollution?” Jan had to smirk at his next statement, “Cryptids and all?”

Starter for either @koffiehuis-love or @lilli-of-the-mountain

Resi had made it to the restaurant after everyone else accompanied by Vlad and Ena. Leaving her friend and boyfriend outside to talk Resi decided to go in first to look for a table and to find either Lilli or Jan to give them the gift.

She leaves the table armed with her box (the gift) and proceeded to find the happy couple.

There were a lot of guests, each talking and drinking and celebrating the couple and Resi knew that it would be a challenge to get one of the happy couple free to talk to, but she decided to persevere and waited around for either Jan or Lilli to be free. Taking another glass of champagne she glances back towards the door to hope that the discussion between Vlad and Ena stayed platonic and not overly flirtatious and that they were not making out - even though Ena instantly told her that she was here to steal Vlad from her but Resi knew that there was still chemistry between the friends and anything could happen.

Sipping her champagne she looked around and politely smiling at those who made eye contact with her waiting for a slot when she could congratulate the couple on their union and give them her present (or at least find out where to put it).

Finally. The elusive groom has appeared. It’s about time. Resi was forever searching for Jan almost all night. She had seen Lilli, Hugh and Ludwig but no Jan, until now, of course. She was relieved that she could achieve an audience with him.
She holds up yet another glass of champagne - one of many glasses she had consumed throughout the afternoon. “Thank you but I am good, ” She had a slightly tipsy smile in response as she scans the giant Dutchman over, “Thank you for inviting us. The day has been beyond amazing.” She answers as she spotted the Dutchman glancing behind her.
“Vlad is at the table. If you want we could go over and you could chat? He would appreciate a friendly male face to speak to?” Resi suggested pointing over to the table where the Romanian was sat.

“See where my mind is-a million miles away because you are holding a drink and I didn’t see it.”

Now he notices Resi’s buzz and at the very least is glad guests are enjoying themselves.

“Oh hell yes, Had to invite the few people I can tolerate. Glad you are having a good time. And I’ll see him later, after all, you sought me out, that would be rude and we all know what a gentleman I am.”

“Jist hald yer horses a wee second here m'eudail.”
Despite the nervous energy rippling from his best friend Hugh would have him breath and pause a moment so they could speak. Approaching a hand reached up, pressing white silk to Jan’s cheek, closer than he’d been to the Dutchman since.. that day.
“I need yer ring first o’ awl. I went te see Lilli.. christ I’ve ne’er seen such a woman, she wis beautiful. Yer barely gonnae be able te breath when ye see her. I’ll be there te catch ye if ye swoon.” A little smile twitched his lips. “N’ she passed a message wit me that she misses ye n’ that she loves ye..”
The hand dropped, taking Jan’s into his hold, squeezing those capable fingers.
“Ye’ll be alrite, I’ll be rite here wit ye.”

Jan’s enthusiasm to run out to the altar is suddenly on pause and he cannot help but stare at the Scotsman in confusion. Oh! The ring. Of course, talk about lack of thought that drives the tall blond to just burst through the double doors to the church.

“I know. It’ll take a lot of strength, but I think I’ve been building it and saving it since that spring day in 2017. Who knew this would be the one I would marry? It’s a first for me, good and proper.” His breath is wobbly as he hands Hugh the ring with a quick, harried nod.

“I’d return the sentiment, but I think I’ll save it for when I see her.”

When Hugh gives a squeeze, Jan’s smirk quiets his mind with that single gesture.

“Mm,” the Dutchman exhales confident, “I know you will, Hugh. You always have been, mijn vriend. Dankjewel.”

“I love the fact that you love your rabbits more than life itself.” Bastian laughs, watching Godiva paw at Jan’s leg, begging the Dutchman to scoop her up and hold her on his lap. “She’s a lap cat, Jan. I’m warning you now.” Bastian smiles at the attention his brother is getting from his cat before shaking his head and snorting quietly.
“Of course it’s not a secret,” He laughs. “There’s a reason people say we’re not allowed to sit next to each other in meetings.” He hops off his bar stool again, moving to go and get some snacks before creating a cheese platter and setting it on the island counter top. “Violà. Holes in the sand aren’t bad, Jan.” Bas winks. “Just try making fun of him over German Sparkle Party. See what happens.” Bastian just smiles slightly at Jan, a much more reserved one saved solely for the closest of friends and family– it’s seldom seen but it’s there as a nod of appreciation to the other. “You should look forward to it. I’ll wipe the floor with her.” And he 180s from soft spoken to that nasty competitive streak he has. “Nah, she won’t need consoling. It’ll be decided handedly. You’ll need to be celebrating with me.”

“They are pure and never turn their back on you, what can I say?”

That said, Jan does just that, scooping up little Godiva without missing a beat. This will be one spoiled cat indeed if the tall blond can help it.

“I end up next to you. And if Emma gives me the time of day, maybe even she sometimes joins us.”

That bit of reminiscence is fleeting as the Dutchman gives a hard eye roll; he’ll never let the holes go. Never, ever. “Eh, I can do that and still tease about that damn sparkle party. There is so much to work with.” Jan’s features soften at that statement though he gives no explanation why.

That little hint of a smile and it’s Jan’s for the taking this day. Perhaps he is not the garbage older brother everyone takes him for. Perhaps.

An escape stifle rings across Jan’s features at that comment, that confidence is fantastic!

“Ach, well, that’s how it should be.  I just know she’s got a bit of a crush and maybe she’d appreciate my comfort, but you bring up too good a point, mijn broer.”

Ludwig’s lips turned up into a cheshire cat grin, like the cat being caught with canary feathers in his mouth. Guilty as charged. If getting kissed by a handsome man was on the table, why would he not fully take advantage of the offer? Especially if said man was the one sitting before him. “Look at you,” he chuckled, a low little sound. “Caught me red-handed.”

The German’s breath gets caught in his throat at the seemingly-sudden appearance of Jan in his face, startled blue eyes taking just a moment to notice the finer details of his face; his long eyelashes and just how those green eyes of his seemed to bore into him, completely unfettered. Jan really was striking.
The hand to scruffy jaw was just a preamble for the press of beer-touched lips to his own, to which Ludwig yielded easily, a hand lightly grasping onto the Dutchman’s forearm.

Ah, there’s that smile, a little treasure for the Dutchman to covet. It’s been simply too long since he had such an impromptu bit of fun and perhaps it was the same for Ludwig as well.

How each man had his expectation about carrying the lead and Jan is more than happy to provide that brash behavior for the German. Ludwig needed to be appreciated and pursued too, after all, as Jan searches for that element in their kiss.

Such a shade of blue to impress.

Image

Pulling away for just a moment just to take in that blue once more, the tall blond dives in deeper for that taste he spoke about.

How could he keep from smirking into such lips? The answer is simple, Jan doesn’t.

"Janny, Jan!"

That's the only warning he receives before New Zealand launches themself on his shoulders. They've been working on their vertical jump just to be able to reach. A big smooch gets planted on his cheek, "Happy birthday ya old fart! Poe-pie-scheet-je."

koffiehuis-love:
“Ack!”
It’s the only croaking that escapes the Dutchman’s throat as his posture sways with the added weight on his shoulders.
“Pft. Your Dutch…very funny. Just stop while you’re behind.”
“That’s ya gift, my learning some Dutch. Neu-ken in de keu-ken. That means hello, yeah?” God they’re so good at this.
“But I also got ya other stuff, of course!”

“Oi! That certainly does not mean hello! Who the fuck taught you that?”

The Dutchman clicks his tongue in admonishment, giving a light sigh, curious.

“Alright I’ll bite. What else?”

“Aw, ya really do appreciate my skills in the kitchen huh? Maybe yer the one that’s actually going soft and not me.”
Though, the comment about watching his back does pull a snort from the shorter nation, but he returns that smirk with. Yeah, okay.

“No. Simply put, I appreciate it. Who doesn’t want a man cooking for them?”

Jan continues with his gaze at the Turk, a light snort to accompany that smirk.

“Well, what kind of cheese is it? I’m starving here.”

Lilli is only to happy to boldly stare at her husband while he sheds his robe. No matter how many times she sees him in that little speedo, she is always affected to her core. The muscles that ripple beneath delectable skin, the faint scars that map the triumphs and tribulations of his life, those stunning green eyes…perhaps she is the mad one for letting him walk away.
But once he is safely out of sight, she rises to slip out of the linen shirt into a sheer purple robe purchased just for the occasion. After tying the wide purple sash around her waist, she picks up her coffee mug to meet him, as promised, on the veranda. The change is quick and so much the better. Now she can admire his form while she slowly sips at her coffee.
And when he rises above the waves, a wicked grin settles across her lips at the sight of him. Everything noted and appreciated earlier is only enhanced by the rolling droplets that trail down his body. The way he pushes his hair from his face is nothing but sin and for a brief moment she wishes she were there to do the task for him.
But the robe is expensive and she would be ridiculous to ruin it before he can appreciate it.
“Are you enjoying yourself, mijn alles,” she calls out from her perch on her chair. When his gaze falls on her, she is sure to cross her legs to make apparent that there are not one but two deliciously high slits that adorn this darling robe.

Could it be the equivalent of a cold shower? Perhaps, but the Dutchman will still grasp the supposed higher road of masochism and let the moment serve as foreplay as he dives into the rush of cool water.

Standing with his back to the beach, Jan lets the sun caress him for a moment after the depths of the beloved ocean drenched him in a chill.

Sorry, I won’t stay long today.  My love, my life and my lady is not you, dear Ocean.

Turning to finally face the sands with a hand pushing back long bangs, the tall blond can see Lilli as her voice rings out to him. Purple has him envious as it falls on her sweet skin.

So that is the surprise. Those slits will end me.

Walking with his usual swagger, he doesn’t answer, but a smile finds Lilli all the same, closing in as the sun tends to his own flesh. He is audacious in his speedo sans towel, but the calm feigns - for the moment.

“So, baby girl, I see this is what will be my undoing this morning. Only you could have pulled me so willingly from my swim.”
