I whisper softly 'hello'

Hoping to find refuge

In the sound of a voice,

Tucked away somewhere

In this ritualistic circle

Of idle chit chat

And small laughter,

But all I hear back

Is silence clawing out of me

Wrapping me in a greyish veil

As I scatter smiles and nods

Of 'Yes and no' s,

Growing further and further

Deeper within,

Wandering in the confines

Of my own thoughts.

Water your fields

With my blood;

Skin me sister

Clothe your body

With my hide

Carve me father

Kill your enemies

With my bones

Vilify me mother

Sing to your children

Of my existence,

Coffee coloured eyes

Wake me from my dream,

Soft lips add

The needed sweetness,

And a tired yet sunshine filled

I Try

I try to eat the food my mother made

Hoping that the bits of love and hope

Would fill in my cracked up skin

But the more I devour

The more I starve.

I try to breathe in slowly and deeply

Hoping that the freshness of the air

Would work its magic on me

But the more I try to breathe

The more I choke.

I try to listen to music that soothes

Hoping that the rise and fall of notes

Would carry me far away

But the more I try to listen

The more I numb.

I try to extend my hand towards stars

Hoping that their cold light

Would help me find a prayer

But the more I reach upwards

The more I sink…
