I want to write a Sterek flight attendant AU/flight crew AU so badly.

But I dont even know where to begin…

•Dealing with bad/drunk passengers (they always have each other’s back)

•Bonding over that one crew member everyone hates (their flight leader, Jackson, is such a dick)

•Whispering secrets in the back galley (“I cried on my first international flight because jetlag is a bitch”)/laughing over the dumbest things on red-eye flights

•handling medical emergencies in-flight

Idek what these ideas are. And none of them have an ounce of actual plot to them. Anyone wanna do me a solid and lend me a plot? ;)

@teenshmolf random plot bunny when i saw the comment about no smoking on planes. I’m currently writing dragon!stiles things so thinking about something like flight attendant Derek pissed off at peoples antics on planes and then dragon!stiles whose on the flight doesn’t smoke cigarettes but needs to let out smoke because he’s a literally burning furnace goes into the lavatory and sets off the fire alarm. Derek is PISSED. Something happens after that, I have no idea. Will i ever figure out how to write this? No clue.

Maybe dragons aren’t super common (esp not on flights, bc they can fly. But maybe Stiles is feeling a little under the weather and isn’t up to making the journey himself so he bought a last minute plane ticket (“do you know how much effort it takes to fly cross country? A LOT.”)

And what if, bc Stiles is a dragon and has a mild cold, whenever he sneezes or coughs, little bits of fire comes out? So he runs to the lav to seclude himself during his coughing fit.

I imagine Derek banging on the lav door and dragging Stiles out by his hoodie, threatening to have him arrested upon landing. Meanwhile, Stiles sputters about how it’s all a misunderstanding and (when derek refuses to listen) acuses him of dragon discrimination.

And Derek doesnt believe him until Stiles, mid-rant, sneezes and accidentally sets the flight attendant jumpseat on fire.

I wonder where the break happened that such wide swaths of younger fans don’t grasp fandom things that used to be unspoken understandings. That fic readers are expected to know fiction from reality,  that views expressed in fic are not necessarily those of the author, that the labels, tags and warnings on various kinkfics are also the indication that they were created for titillation and not much more, please use responsibly as per all pornography. The ‘problem’ isn’t that so-called ‘problematic’ fic exists but that some of the audience is being stupid, irresponsible, at worst criminal, at best not old enough to be in the audience to begin with. And that’s on the consumer, not the author who told you via labels, tags, ratings, warnings and venues what their fic was about and what it was for.

Tumblr. Tumblr is what happened, with its never-ending scrolling, with its lack of nested contents (or ANY comments, when fandom sailed here from the old world), with its tags instead of membered communities.

Tumblr turned fandom content into mindless consumption instead of community. I’m no expert on human behaviour, but I’d put money on this.

Stiles is pretty sure his eyes are bugging out of his head. He flails at Lahey’s writhing form, still groaning on the ground. “You think I’m gonna let you lift me seven feet in the air after seeing THAT?!”

Derek smirks, crossing his stupid ridiculous arms showcased by his ridiculous tank top and impractical-for-dancing jeans. He’s ridiculous.

Stiles wants to fucking eat him.

Stiles hates that eyebrow, too - but his hatred isn’t what makes him shudder when Derek brushes past him en route to the boombox, skin scorching on contact, breath hot on his ear, and says, “Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall.”

People keep requesting to add my fic to collections and I don’t know if they know this, and I don’t know if people who allow their own stories know this, but once you add your story to a collection, the owner of the collection can perform fuckery with your story.

Like, I’m REALLY glad that collections exist, and I’ve put my work into some collections when I made those things specifically for those collectuons. Collections are a useful tool for things like bangs, where the stories need to be hidden until the reveal….. but that also means that the person in charge has the ability to hide your works from the public. Like, without you agreeing, because you already “agreed” to that by submitting to the collection. Which means works you previously had available suddenly disappear from where people can find them.

What I’m saying is please stop random requests to random people to be in your random collections. I know you probably don’t have ill intentions, but there’s no way to tell. And if you’re getting requests to be part of random collections, please be aware that if you approve them, you won’t be the only one in control of some elements of your posted stories, including whether or not they “exist” to the average reader. If they mark the collection as “unrevealed,” you story stops being accessible to the public. And they have the option to mark the collection “anonymous” which I’m pretty sure turns the author from being You to being Anonymous.

And I say all of this because I have seen this happen to people. I have had friends whose stories “disappeared” because they approved a random collection invite and the collection owner turned everything “unrevealed” (likely without even knowing or understanding that it would hide it for EVERYONE not just hide the collection so no one would see they had it, it’s not like a private bookmark). And while I haven’t seen anyone do this maliciously (at least none I can prove) I can see where it could be USED maliciously. So please, just be careful out there.

I wish AO3 had a way to auto decline collection invites- they gave us a way to auto-accept, so I don’t understand why the opposite isn’t true. If I wanted my story to be part of a collection, I’d submit it myself.

Uhh okay, so someone replied to this that they didn’t know how to remove a work from a collection. 

Copy and past the following link, and where it says “yourusernamehere” type in your AO3 pseud.

This should take you to a page where your works that have been approved for collections resides. You can remove your works from collections by selecting “rejected” instead from the drop down menus.

If the direct link doesn’t work: go to your AO3 dashboard, click “collections” on the side bar, click “manage collected items” button at the top right, click “approved” button at the top right, and you’ll be at the right page to remove your works from collections.

want to add a fic you love to that super-specific collection you made for Fics With Werewolves Set In London? bookmark it and add the bookmark to your collection! 

no fuss, no muss, no permission required from the author (since it’s YOUR bookmark), no chance of fucking up their fic (since it’s YOUR bookmark), presto chango, you have a collection that rocks but doesn’t rock a poor fic writer’s boat!

Thank you for this info, this is very valuable (and relieving) knowledge.

“Oh god, why?” Stiles groans, flat on his back.

“You attacked me,” Derek says, stooping to help Stiles up again but Stiles waves him off, mostly because he’s not sure if his spine is working yet after Derek flipped him over his shoulder.

“I attacked… what?” Stiles splutters, rolling over onto his belly and then pushing up slowly. He just knows he’s going to be one hell of a creaky old man after all the werewolf abuse.

“You went for a-”

“Hug, Derek. I went for a hug.”

“What?”

“I. Went. For. A. Hug,” Stiles says, overly slowly, making short chops with his arms in the air to punctuate his words.

“I don’t get it.”

“What’s to get? You’ve been hugged before, right? By your family?” Stiles wants to smack himself in the face with his own shoe for mentioning Derek’s family and affection, but Derek still looks confused. “Wait, not even a creepy clench from Uncle Undead?”

“My cousin Rafe would sometimes drop on me from the rafters of the house. That was more an ambush thing.”

“That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.”

“We were a werewolf family with human members. We had to be careful. You could hurt someone so easily. We kissed. There was a lot of patting.”

“That sounds really dirty.”

“Stiles.”

“Okay, big guy. We’re trying this again.

“Oh god no.”

“It’s an entry requirement to Scott’s pack of wonder and excitement that you learn to hug the squishies because we like to hug. We Stilinskis especially are cuddlers by nature.”

“How about a hearty handshake?”

“C’mon. This is happening,” Stiles says, this time opening his arms and not advancing on Derek, letting him do the approach because last time Stiles nearly got all his bones broken taking Derek by surprise. When Derek hesitates, Stiles spirit-fingers at him in impatience.

Stiles is just about to drop his arms, tell Derek not to break something because Derek looks like he’s about to strain himself fighting the urge to run far away, when Derek takes two quick steps and is in the circle of Stiles’ arms. For a second, Stiles is so surprised that he doesn’t close the circle. Derek tenses again for flight and that’s what prompts Stiles to bring his arms around properly and squeeze.

“You can hug back. It might be nice to not feel like I’m cuddling a stone pillar.”

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t. I know you won’t.”

Derek’s arms settle so lightly around Stiles then that Stiles isn’t even sure he’s feeling them until they tighten a little further and then Derek’s nose is buried against Stiles’ pulse point.

“Get a room,” Isaac huffs from the couch next to the windows where he’s getting his ass kicked at Mario Kart by Scott.

“This whole loft is my room,” Derek says, tightening his grip a little further, like he’s worried Stiles will end the embrace but he’s not going to. He learned something very important from his dad. Always let the other person break the hug if they’re the one that needed it.

Stiles isn’t going anywhere, he figures for quite a while.
