I always intended for my first custom Elphaba doll to have a non canon outfit to go with my other Elphaba dolls but I was kind of stuck on what to sew since I didn't like how large the Liberty London fabric print was.
It wasn't until I found out Primark had a set of heatless curlers with custom Wicked fabric that I felt inspired to make something for her.
I really liked the fact it says Elphaba Thropp on it and the colours did feel very in line with Elphaba as a character so I knew I could make something with it.
I experimented with different silhouettes because I wanted to emphasize the print placement without too much fabric waste and I settled on this as the mutton sleeves were large enough to accommodate the W logo, and the faux open front design meant I could split the blouse up to get the right placement with some careful tetrising the pattern pieces and have the motifs line up.
I didn't quite have enough fabric for a fuller or longer skirt and I had to carefully make the skirt into several panels to retain the pattern orientation. If I just kept the fabric as is, the W would be sideways and I would be bothered lol.
I also wanted to pleat the fabric but even with interfacing the satin was so cheap that it didn't hold a shape even after ironing, so I just opted for a gathered skirt.
I am really happy how Elphaba looks in it and it's really fun having custom fabric that's so character specific.
