Quick Jegulus!angst, fight at the start of 7th year. The war is coming and James is feeling anxious about his relationship with Regulus so he confronts him about it… with their teenage temper and lack of communication skills the two find themselves at a dead end of misunderstandings.

“You’re not listening to me Reg!” James stood up from the bed, still in his night shirt. “There’s a war coming, am i supposed to wait for you through it? I mean… you technically belong to the enemy…”

“I don’t belong to anyone, James” Regulus said sternly, his voice lower than before. “I make my own decisions, whose side I’m on is up to me. You’ll see in time.”

“Don’t make me laugh, You’re all talk, you’ve never stood up to your parents, what will make me believe that you will now?” James felt his heart beat faster as he watched Regulus take his words in.

“You clearly don’t know me that well then.” Regulus stood up, walking closer to James and despite being shorter than him, he forced eye contact. James couldn’t read his eyes, Regulus wasn’t letting him in, wasn’t letting him know his feelings. “You’re just afraid to commit to us and you know it.”

“I don’t wanna have this conversation.”

“What conversation?!”

“This!” James breathed heavily, feeling his anger rise, “as if you’d actually leave from your parents, you’ll just make an excuse!”

“Where is this even coming from?! I’ve asked you to give me some time! It’s not easy being in the middle of this. My parents are capable of worse than murder, it’s not easy. You don’t understand.”

“I’m just sick of this hiding…I just wanna be your boyfriend.”

“I’m not forcing you to wait. You can do whatever you want, James fucking Potter, it’s your fucking life.”

James looked at the floor and sighed, “okay…It’s fine, I can wait” he said and looked back up at Regulus, “I’m not interested in anyone else anyways” James saw the tears building up in regulus’ eyes, and the way his lips twitched like they always did when he held the tears back.

“Yeah, just be with me until you find someone better right?” Regulus’ breath hitched and a tear escaped his eye. He turned away from James who just realized what he had said.

“no… that’s not what I-“ James tried but gave up. He groaned loudly and walked in a circle as he rubbed his face.

“I know what I am to you now.” Regulus’ voice shook as he turned around to face his boyfriend.

“Reg…” James’ voice broke while he stretched out his arm to touch Regulus but the latter only brushed him off.

“Piss off.” He whispered and fled the room, leaving James alone with his thoughts.
