VANS HOUSE PARTIES | BROOKLYN | SICK OF IT ALL

Last night House of Vans Brooklyn welcomed NY’s hometown legends Sick of It All, and after over 30 years they’re still able to furiously stir up a crown. The hardcore Queens veterans formed in 1986 and were part of the legendary CBGB’s underground scene. In 1995 the guys played the very first Vans Warped Tour alongside NOFX, Pennywise and many more. And to the thrill of many fans, SOIA also played a few dates on this summer’s final coast to coast Warped Tour.

Sick of It All picked up momentum after the release of their third studio album, Scratch The Surface followed by a world tour in 1997. Since their debut album in 1989, Sick of It All has released eleven studio albums and toured all over the world. Their most recent release The Last Act of Defiance, came in 2014 produced by Tue Madsen. You can catch SOIA this summer and fall including headlining the Rocks Off Cruise on September 22. See all their tour dates here.

I haven’t seen these guys in 20 years and it was amazing to see they haven’t lost a bit of energy! Still killing it #sickofitall

ART SCHOOL | VANS HOUSE PARTIES | DREW REYNOLDS

We’re excited about the upcoming Vans House Parties in Brooklyn, featuring Slowdive on June 30th. Not only are we excited about the music, but also by the installations and visuals experiences that will be provided by artists Drew Reynolds and Ivan Seal. We had a chance to chat with photographer Drew Reynolds who has worked with bands like Slowdive and The Kills as well as magazines like Pitchfork and the Rolling Stones. We find out more about Drew’s photography, what he’s prepared for VHP that night, and about some of his favorite photographers in this Art School with Drew Reynolds.

VANS HOUSE PARTIES | BROOKLYN | VORHEES

Vorhees, aka Dana Wachs, is a complex mix of pop, electronic and ambient sounds. As a sound engineer for top acts like St. Vincent and Deerhunter, Vorhees has crafted her own sonic cocktails made of parts guitar fuzz, riffs, and electro beats. Vorhees’ work has accompanied various mediums, scoring modern dance numbers, films, and Rachel Comey’s presentation during Fashion Week in New York in 2012.

Last night the House of Vans Brooklyn experienced their hometown girl’s live show. Vorhees relies heavily on improvisation, so seeing her perform is a vibrant experience of textures and inspiration. In 2017 she released a 5 track EP, Black Horse Pike. Simon Scott of Slowdive was so taken by the EP, that Slowdive released a remix of the track in May of 2018.

You can stream Black Horse Pike here, and purchase the Slowdive remix here.

VANS HOUSE PARTIES | BROOKLYN | SLOWDIVE

Last night iconic English rock band, Slowdive headlined The House of Vans in Brooklyn. After taking a break from 1995 to 2014, Slowdive has not only been playing massive festivals like Primavera Sound and Los Angeles’ FYF, but they put out a self-titled album in 2017.

January 2017 marked the first single Slowdive had released in nearly 22 years. “Star Roving” was complete with their signature shoegaze sound but with a suggestive shift forward. With a new album in tow, they set out on a massive tour to reunite with fans and perform new material. This May marks the 25 year anniversary of their second studio album, Souvlaki. Souvlaki is considered a hallmark album for the shoegaze genre. It’s so critical in fact, Pitchfork made a documentary about the creation of the album.

Slowdive is set to play more shows this summer, grab tickets here.

I met Kirk at a saloon in Big Timber. He asked if I voted for Trump right off the bat. I said, "No, but I heard he did pretty well around here." "Damn right." Was Kirk's response. Then we dropped politics and vibes on Townes Van Zandt. Eventually he invited me to come by his gun shop the next day and photograph. #collectiveworkshops #leicaakademieusa #collectivequarterly #shilohsharps @collectivequarterly @leicaakademieusa @billykirkinc
