Any tips on how to absorb and retain what you've learn during research since there is so much information?

Any thoughs on information gathering technique and your preferences?

(e.g. handwritten vs digital, draft vs directly doing a grimoire/BoS, one grimoire with all the info vs multiple grimoires, dividing info by subject or by source, etc.)

Wonderful question dear!

How to Take & Organize Notes on Witchcraft

  • Use what works You'll find with things like if it's handwritten or digital, it's going to entirely depend on the person. Be practical. Be realistic. What are you actually going to use? What is going to help you personally learn? This practice is like 90% studying, especially when you start. You want to make it easy for yourself.
  • Don't worry about a grimoire I've tried to make a grimoire TWICE now and it just becomes information that's not true, that I longer agree with, or that I won't use. We have reference books for a reason. Those aesthetic correspondence lists won't get you far, I promise. Focus on practical notes. Focus on notes about what you're actually doing. If at some point far down the line you feel you can organize that into some kind of long term grimoire, go for it, but as a newbie doing research? An aesthetic reference book is not what you need.
  • Use a binder I have yet to see someone mention using a binder for this and someone not go "Oh that's genius! I'm gonna do that" it's also what I use. Wonderful, simple tip. You can exchange out sheets if you don't like them and keep them in an ideal order. You can add new sections as you please. It's ideal.
  • Focus on a few topics It can be easy when you start to get really overwhelmed and make long lists of things you want to learn. That will come. For now so you can manage it and actually remember, focus on two or three topics at a time. Maybe pick something practical like warding and a couple topics you find really interesting. Remember, keep it fun and easy for yourself because you'll need to do a lot of it.
  • Highlighters! This might seem boring, or like duh, but seriously. If you've got a wall of text because that's how you had to or prefer to write it and there's something in there you really want to memorize or reference highlight it up. I also have a bunch of different colored highlighters, and when I'm taking notes for reference I like to highlight by very specific color for later. So for example if the usage of an herb is friendship, I highlight that in pink. I have a list of the colors, and what they mean. If I need all the herbs for friendship I have notes on at my finger tips I just flip and look for pink.

How many books to have, dividing, ect

This is going to vary by person greatly so I'm just going to explain how I do it to hopefully inspire you. I have a big binder that's split into two sections. The first section is a grimoire I don't use and will be redoing at some point. Since all the info just kind of came from my brain from studying over time it's more practical to go by topic so I just arranged the topics in the order that made sense to me . Mostly basics first, more advanced and detailed stuff later. The second section is more a book of shadows/journal/recording mad scientist experiments type thing. I've got spells I wrote, sigils I designed, divination readings, intuitive feelings/weird experiences, stuff like that in there. That makes up the majority of it and that's what I would focus on. Reflection is so helpful for perfecting your craft. It is divided by chronological order currently so it's just a mess currently. At some point I will probably even divide that second section into groups too. The spells and sigils will likely become part of that grimoire I'll eventually get onto making. Then maybe I'll have a separate tarot journal. Something like that. You might prefer having 5 separate books, organizing by source, or something else. This was just to spark your inspiration, ideas and preferences.

Details I would recommend keeping in all notes:

  • Topic/topics
  • Source
  • Date
  • Any thoughts, things to fact check later, ect

Notes ideas for things like spells:

  • Type of spell
  • Intent
  • The time/day/moon phase you did it
  • Everything you used
  • Steps/the order you did it in
  • Any words/chants used
  • Any substitutions made
  • Additional notes/thoughts

I hope that helps & addresses all your concerns! The examples you gave were super helpful for getting my brain going 💕

May I also suggest using onenote if you can! you can do your notes by section and subsections if you have issues with writing for extended periods of time.

Some very brilliant note ideas above though for any of my followers looking for ideas.

Ok so this post is extremely long and I put it all together for my blogs Feeling sad page but as I don’t have a huge amount of followers I realize so many people are not seeing this information so I’m posting it here too!

alternatives without harming yourself:

  • holding/squeezing ice.
  • splashing your face with water.
  • getting a rubber band and snapping it against your skin (this could hurt, though it’s better than other ways that people usually choose to self-harm).
  • take a hot shower or bath.
  • eat something sour. it will take your mind of the urge. (lemon, sour lollies)
  • massage where you want to self-harm.
  • get a red pen or red paint and draw/paint over where you usually self-harm.
  • remind yourself as to why you shouldn’t do it. (scars, harms organs, leave memories etc…)
  • describe what you are feeling. (is the urge/pain in your chest, fists, legs, arms, head).

killing yourself will not help. it is not a solution.

you have your whole life ahead of you. you have so many more years that you can accomplish things in. for example;

  • having a family.
  • getting married.
  • to watch the sun rise.
  • to watch the sun set.
  • to save someone else’s life.
  • finish school.
  • get your dream job.
  • to laugh.
  • to smile.
  • to go camping.
  • travel to new places.
  • to wake up every morning to the person you love.
  • friends.
  • family.
  • to keep that promise you made.
  • to accomplish a goal.
  • to meet your idol.
  • to listen to new music.
  • theme parks.
  • video games.
  • chocolate.
  • to be able to look back and say “i made it”.

what you’re going through is temporary.

in case you need to hear this:

  • you are loved.
  • you are wanted.
  • you are needed.
  • you are beautiful.
  • you are handsome.
  • you are important.
  • you are not alone.
  • you are okay.
  • you are strong.
  • you are worth it.
  • you are smart.
  • you are not a failure.
  • you are useful.
  • you are going to be okay.

depression tips™

  • shower. not a bath, a shower. use water as hot or cold as u like. u dont even need to wash. just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. sit on the floor if you gotta.
  • moisturize everything. use whatever lotion u like. unscented? dollar store lotion? fancy ass 48 hour lotion that makes u smell like a field of wildflowers? use whatever you want, and use it all over.
  • put on clean, comfortable clothes.
  • put on ur favorite underwear. cute black lacy panties? those ridiculous boxers u bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? put em on.
  • drink cold water. use ice. if u want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
  • clean something. doesn’t have to be anything big. organize one drawer of ur desk. wash five dirty dishes. do a load of laundry. scrub the bathroom sink.
  • blast music. listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
  • make food. don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. take the time and make food. even if it’s ramen. add something special to it, like a hard boiled egg or some veggies. prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
  • make something. write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. even if you don’t think you’re good at it.
  • go outside. take a walk. sit in the grass. look at the clouds. smell flowers. put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
  • call someone. call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. talk to a stranger on the street. have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. if you can’t, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. even if you don’t say much, listen to them.
  • cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. take pictures of them. talk to them. tell them how u feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out.

💐Picnic witchcraft guide💐

Sandwich correspondences

Tea correspondences (sun tea, tea in general, floral tea)

Flower correspondences- can be used as decoration, for flower crowns, as a fun nature activity (collecting them respectfully, of course), and edible flowers can be used for deserts, drinks, and salads!

Desserts- here’s some witchy dessert recipes, perfect for any picnic!

Locations- fun witchy locations for picnics include:

🌹a botanical garden, floral garden, or any sort of garden (perfect for fae, floral, air, green, life, spring, and summer witchcraft)

☀️a sunny open field/area (probably has wild flowers!, great for air, sun, floral, and weather witchcraft)

🌙⭐a night picnic under the stars and moon! (Perfect for lunar, nocturnal, and cosmic witchcraft)

🌳a park (great for all witchcraft, very versatile)

🌊💧a beach, pond, lake or near any body of water (perfect for water, sea, and love witchcraft)

👻a cemetery (perfect for death, spirit, medium, and floral witchcraft. Just make sure it’s allowed and you’re respectful of graves)

🌲A forest (perfect for forest, tree, nature, green, earth, and hedge witchcraft, here’s some tree correspondences)

Other witchy picnic ideas:

Stones/crystals to bring- it depends a lot on location and the general theme of the picnic! But a few favorites of mine are:

rose quartz, opalite, any aura quartz, sunstone, agate, tigers eye, and selenite (especially peach selenite)

Scents- I like to focus on scents a lot during picnics. It can make the experience so much more enjoyable! Location once again plays a huge role, but you can always spray your picnic blanket with essential oils, use strongly scented herbs or flowers, use a specific perfume, or even a specific tea that smells good. Some scents I like to focus on during picnics are:

lemon, orange, grapefruit, lemongrass, strawberry, orange blossom, gardenia, rose and lavender

Bring some little spells or offerings with you! A picnic in nature is the perfect time to do a little crafting, especially love, self care, fae, peace and happiness spells. And you can correspond your picnic with the intent of the spell!

It’s also a great time for devotional offerings and any other offerings, especially fae offerings.

Put together a picnic spell- an entire picnic can be a spell! Everything from location, to drinks, to food, and the extra stuff you bring along can be in it.

🍑Have fun picnic witching! 💐

Magickal and Non-Magickal Tips for Writing

Fun fact! I do freelance writing as well as hobby writing, as most of my loyal followers can tell. I thought it was time that I share some tips about one of the things that I am passionate about.

Magickal

  • Charm your pens, using the ink as inspiration to help the words flow better
  • Ex. Burn a purple candle and chant, “As the ink flows, so do my words” confidently as if you are a monarch commanding their army
  • Practice regular meditation and visualization (if you have the ability to) to help with focus and determining your goals.
  • Below is a sigil to protect from writer’s block. Use it by drawing it at the top of your page or by drawing it on a sticky note and placing it on your monitor.
  • Incorprate color correspondences into your writing, whether it be via ink, your clothes, or even nail color. Here are some to help you out:
  • Yellow - Creativity
  • Red - Passion
  • Blue - Clear thoughts
  • Purple - Progress
  • Green - Success
  • Keep rose quartz on your desk/working area to help with your confidence in your writing.
  • Appeal to various writing/creativity/art deities. Here are some listed below. I tried my best to avoid deities of closed religions, but I apologize if I didn’t realize one was closed (I got these from Wikapedia). In the end, it is up to you to determine which deities are appropriate for you to appeal to. Feel free to add some more.
  • Apollo (Greek and also my patron god)
  • Tir (Armenian)
  • Bao Zheng (Chinese)
  • Benzaiten (Japanese)
  • Nabu (Babylonian)
  • Enki (Sumerian)
  • Nidaba (Sumerian)
  • Minerva (Roman)
  • Ahura Mazda (Zoroastrian)
  • Burn incense nearby to invoke the attributes of the element of air, which is associated with creativity and freedom!

Sigil:

Non-Magickal

  • Read! The more you read, the more styles of writing, vocabulary, and sentence structure you are introduced to. Try to read more than one type of genre as well. Everything you read has a direct impact on your writing.
  • Regularly re-read your old work to see how you’ve progressed. This is especially helpful if you feel as if you are hitting a wall in your progression as a writer in general.
  • Practice! Writing isn’t easy. The words sometimes just don’t hit you and it can get really frustrating. Sometimes, no matter how many times you re-write the same passage, it doesn’t feel right. Practicing regularly, even if it is just to write in your journal every night, makes perservering easier.
  • Re-read your work at least once! I am especially bad about this. You’d be surprised at the amount of typos you’d make. If you’re work is especially long, re-read each paragraph as you write them instead of all at once.
  • Take regulated breaks.
  • On that note, schedule times for you to sit down and write. People who schedule when they need to write have a better chance of actually sitting down and writing. This also means you won’t feel bad for not writing later. It doesn’t need to be for hours or even every day. For some, it’s in the mornings before work. For others, it’s just on the weekends. Determine what works best for you.
  • Writing with a quill pen just for the aesthetic is okay and no one should judge you for that.

I really hopes this helps anybody who is interested in writing of any kind!
