Stop Misidentifying Artists

I, Soraya, am a Japanese, professional artist/writer who is on social media as SORAYA. I have a sole website SORA • YA and only one account each on Pixiv and Tumblr. I prefer to draw JJBA fan comic without ship.

-------------------------------------

Overview

In 2014, an English-speaking Tumblr user confused me (Soraya) with someone new despite the dissimilar name and style, and reblogged an art post with their addition of an incorrect tag, probably due to the rarity of Japanese artists drawing Steel Ball Run fan art on Tumblr at that time.

Later, English and Spanish speaking Twitter users mis-attributed the latter fan artist's multiple social media and adult JJBA content to me, apparently based on the aforementioned Tumblr reblog. Some of them made profile and header pictures out of both artists’ art and credited the other way around. Some favorably but mistakingly referred to the said fan artist as "the Xenosaga writer”. Some were looking for the said fan artist’s whereabouts and wrongly assumed that I would be them.

An English-speaking message board user posted disinformation that "She (either of the two) admitted it (that the two were the same person) while ago then backtracked when people started giving her shit for drawing gay cowboy porn".

This happened only in fandoms in the West. Japanese people have never confused the two.

Examples

1. Messageboard posts found by the search - misattributing someone else’s Twitter and Pixiv accounts to Soraya

2. Disinformation claiming that the two are the same person

3. Disinformation claiming that the said fan artist’s social media is Soraya’s alt

4. Update 2018 - an English speaking Tumblr user asking Soraya for a comic and a website that is not of Soraya’s

Contrary to the message board users’ assumption that “people accused Soraya of drawing Jojo porn”, Tumblr and Twitter users who mistook me for someone else expected me to be the one they were looking for, who could possibly provide them with romantic/sexual JJBA content. In fact, they mildly showed their disappointment, or, openly expressed their displeasure over my not doing it.

Please DO NOT misidentify artists. Please recognize the difference, and credit artists correctly. Please know that art belongs to its actual creator.

I think most artists don’t want to be mis-attributed to others’ work, whether the content is sexual or not. I don’t want anyone to use my own job history to describe someone else, either.

Needless to say, the solid proof that I am not that fan artist can be verified by the authorities any time.
