As you may know, Canada is suffering from some of the worst willdfires we've ever seen. Where we live, the sun and moon are coloured red, and the skies are a grey brown with smoke.

Tomorrow the worst will hit us, and we are instructed to not go outside due to terrible air quality.

What can we do?

Last year @psychopompstories and I created an 18 page graphic novel based on their original psychopomp (guides of the dead) short story called By Fire.

By Fire now available for digital download, with all proceeds going towards Canada's East Coast wildfire relief fund, headed by the Red Cross.

Thank you.

Take A Moment

I know the world is dark right now, folks. These stories are not always happy, but I hope they bring you some catharsis, as they do for me. I cry writing these, but that's not a bad thing. We all have the right to take a moment to feel grief, or rage, or just ache for the world, to let the feeling move through us and out of us, even though time keeps marching on and most of us have to keep getting up and going to work every day.

The Psychopomps would like you to take a moment today to feel whatever you need to feel. You don't have to be happy all the time. You can feel sad, you can feel angry, you can scream if you want. It's ok. If you need to get something off your chest, consider this a safe place to talk about your feelings. The reason these characters exist is to help people find a way to move forward.

You're never alone. Dog, Cat, Crow, Egg, and Lock are all here for you, and so am I. We know things are tough. But we can get through it, together.

Claws That Catch

Content Warnings: Death

No one I guide dies in peace.

I've never understood why. The others, they have their facets. Each called to a certain variety, but variety they have. Even Crow, whose charges pass as leaves fall in a forest. As the seasons turn, or natural causes end life before it’s potential time. So many sorts of endings she sees.

I see only violence.

New Look, New Links

Hi everyone, just a little update for followers, you may notice some changes to this blog over the next few weeks as I work on getting things nice and shiny. Our name has changed (this used to be moonstruckmirror) to better reflect the fact that the only thing you'll find here is the Psychopomp stories.

If you've enjoyed my stories and would like to support my work, consider joining my newly launched Patreon! All stories will continue to be posted for free, I don't plan to paywall anything. Someday I hope to be able to write stories like these and more as my full time job, and any support you give is one more step you help me take towards that goal.

As always, thank you to everyone who reads, loves, and shares these stories, you have no idea how much it means to me. Another story is already in the works that springboards off of Wish For Wings, and will feature the most stubborn of the group, the elusive Cat.

Any animal can be a psychopomp, if you believe in them hard enough. If you could make a psychopomp, what would they be, and who would they be called to?

Wish For Wings

Author’s Notes: Ok, everyone. I wanted to take a moment before we start this one. The psychopomps are meant to be a respectful exploration of death, but some content may not be suitable for all readers. This story includes themes related to the pandemic. If that’s not a story you want to read, please feel free to skip this one.

Content Warnings: pandemic related topics, death of a child, death

Wild Child

CW: Death, implications of violence

I think humans have always been a little mad.

They must be. At some point they grasp their own mortality, and then they just carry on living, in a bizarre state of constant denial. Even the ones that think about it still manage to get up and go about their days, for the most part. Without being crippled by the idea that at any moment they might drop dead. They drive cars, they smoke cigarettes, and a million other normal activities that have a fatality rate.
