“Hello, dear. I might look like your mother, but I’m just borrowing her body! Like Your father and Aiden. I’m your grandfather, Lycidas~”
“Hi hi! ‘M Martin!”
He glances at the hellhounds behind Lycidas, and motions for Bones to run and find help.
“Where Ren? Or bubba?...”
“Why don’t you come with me?~ We can go find them, yes?”
Martin hesitates and shifts uncomfortably
“Momma says no go wiffout her...”
Beaver bolts into the Mindscape, running down the halls & sliding down the main hall down to Martin, standing in between him & Lycidas, “stay away from him.”
Martin clings got Beavers leg and looks around nervously.
“Wan’s me to leave wiff ‘em...”
Beaver keeps his eyes on Lycidas, gently ruffling Martinʼs hair as he carefully steps backwards with him, “good on you for not going with him, marty, heʼs not a good person.”
Lycidas growls and huffs.
“Well if you insist~”
He motions the hellhound to attack Beaver and vanishes.
“shit—” Beaver curses, moving Martin out of the way as the hellhound pounces on top of him, itʼs claws digging into his arm. He ignores the pain, grabbing an iron knife from his pocket & stabs it into one of the beastʼs paws before stabbing it right into its chest, “do something fucking useful, dog, & Πήγαινε πίσω στον αφέντη σου.”
The hellhound growls and snarls while trying to snap at Beaver’s head. A few inches away- the creature goes limp and vanishes into the air.
Beaver lays on the floor for a few minutes, chuckling breathlessly, mumbling, “i know ʼm from the 1800s... but ʼm not a bloodletter...”
Martin whimpers and uncurles from a ball and shakily crawls towards Beaver with tears streaming down his face
“...Bubba?”
Beaver smiles softly, reaching out to him with his good arm, “hey, buddy.. you okay? not hurt or anything, yeah?”
Martin instantly curls against Beaver’s chest and clings to him
“No hurt... bubba hurt...”
Beaver gently holds Martin, “ʼll be alright, marty, ʼm a big boy..”
Lyssa comes running down the hall and gasps when she sees them. She quickly runs over and kneels next to both boys.
“What happened? Are you two okay?!”
“ah, shi- shoot, forgot to grab king—” Beaver mutters, wincing when he tries to sit up using his bad arm, “dammit.”
Lyssa gently pushes Beaver back down “Hold still, hun. King will be okay. Let’s get you two back to my room to get bandaged up and so Bones can check on Martin. Okay?”
“there isnʼt a choice here, huh.”
“Nah. Plus you’ve got a clingy boy. Hold still, I’m going to pick you two up and head to my room.” Lyssa quickly lifts Beaver and Martin into her arms and carries them to her room. She sets them on the bed and looks for her first aid kit.
