Merry Christmas y’all
As extinctions of animals and plants accelerate around the globe, Native American tribes with limited funding are trying to reestablish imperiled species and restore their habitats — measures that parallel growing calls to “rewild” places by reviving degraded natural systems.
But the direct relationship that Native Americans perceive between people and wildlife differentiates their approach from Western conservationists, who often emphasize “management” of habitat and wildlife that humans have dominion over, said Julie Thorstenson, executive director of the Native American Fish & Wildlife Society.
“Western science looks at humans as kind of external managers of the land and of the ecosystem,” she said. “Indigenous people see themselves as part of it.”
The Nakoda and Aaniiih people have struggled to restore their land to a wilder state. Plague periodically wipes out ferret populations, and half the foxes released so far may have died or fled.
But tribal members say they’re committed to rebuilding native species with deep cultural significance to restore balance between humans and the natural world. Tribal elders speak nostalgically of the long-gone Swift Fox Society, which prized the secretive, rarely seen animals and used their pelts and tails to adorn hair braids and costumes. They call the foxes and ferrets their “relatives.”
“It’s like having your family back,” said Mike Fox, former director of the Fort Belknap wildlife program. “We have a pretty darn good spot on the Northern Plains to bring these animals back and just about complete the circle of animals that were originally here.”
curious. anyway,
Just a little daily affirmation:
You’ll never be worse at writing than the people at the CW. Your writing will always be better than Riverdale and the SPN finale. You are a better writer

There is something so beautiful about reaching out to the monstrous with intent to touch it gently. To risk the sharp teeth and the lethal claws, to defy fear and revulsion, and choose to be delicate with something that can be, and often is, incredibly brutal.
I would be SO GENTLE with those tigers before they mauled me completely to death.
Let’s talk about it
Also remember a lot of people who are poor now were once not poor. When I was struggling financially, I had super nice clothes because my highschool aged self decided to buy a lot of nice clothes, and my late teens poverty stricken self benefited from those previous choices.
Furthermore, sometimes nice looking clothes are very cheap/fast fashion and are just well taken care of by the clothing owner. I have multiple pieces that are several years old and cost me less money than a burger.
Not only this, but people give clothes away all the time. I literally get given a bag of clothes once or twice a year from friends and whatnot.
Having nice clothes doesn’t mean you spent your last hundred dollars on clothes rather than food, it just means that nice clothes are currently in your possession.
And if you did spend your last hundred dollars on clothes, it’s probably a sign that clothes make you feel more human than nutritious food, which is just another symptom of poverty.
there are literally charities that exist solely to ensure people have quality outfits that fit for purposes of wearing to interviews with potential employers, because so many potential employers preemptively refuse to consider hiring someone who looks too poor
Additionally, poorer individuals have always possessed items above their current pay grade, be they heirlooms, crafts, or just something you saved up for so you could treat yourself to a moment of feeling dignified again. Clothes are a huge candidate for that. Don’t take this dignity away from people. How dearly they pay for it is none of your concern.
worked for a charity where people would get mad that families in need would ask for x-box games. ‘if they’re so poor how can they afford an x-box?!’ but compare the cost of an xbox to going out to the movies and dinner a few times a year. it’s actually a really smart investment for cheap entertainment if your options are limited.
stop asking people to perform poverty for you.

i’m not gonna fight you. you’re my friend.
Hearing “trans people’s rights getting taken away means WE’RE NEXT and that’s why we should care” from cis LGB people is so frustrating to me. Even if somehow us being stripped of our rights didn’t affect you, you should STILL care. You should give a fuck about us even when what’s happening to us isn’t directly relevant to you and your well-being. You should care about trans people on our own merits, rather than just because you see us as canaries in a fucking coal mine.
people have the audacity to equate vanilla with “plain”. the fruit of a delicate orchid pollinated by hand. worth its weight in solid gold and beyond. the fussy black-and-cream jewel of the american continent. you sick son of a bitch. imagine a world without vanilla. no blondies. no pound cakes. no crème brûlée, no coke floats. no cream soda. no satiny new york-style cheesecakes. no warm apple pie à la mode. no velvety complexity to bring out complex notes in chocolate desserts. no depth of flavour in your cakes and cookies and milkshakes. all in just a few precious seeds or grams of paste or perfumed teaspoons of liquid black platinum. what you don’t understand could fill the library of alexandria seven times over and then some. you ungrateful bastard i’m going to kill you
