Magnus and Alec discuss their future together
Magnus has never hid the fact that he’s endlessly curious and an unabashed snoop, but the ring he discovers in Alec’s dresser is genuinely by accident. He thinks he can wait for Alec to reveal this secret in his own time. -
The box is made out of a dark mahogany. When Magnus picks it up with shaking fingers and without conscious thought, he sees that it has the marriage rune seared on the side in deft, elegant strokes.
But that’s just absurd, Magnus thinks as his mind comes to the only logical conclusion. It can’t possibly, possibly–
"I'm tired," Alec stated. "I'm tired, and it's six in the morning, and we have a dead man with no ID."
Magnus continued to smile. "I can think of less fun things," he said.
A portal opened between two trees, and an oddly dressed man came through. He landed on his back and, like a bug, was trying unsuccessfully to turn over. The portal winked closed immediately after.
The man was the tall sort, had a bow and arrow, a couple of blades, and a satchel. He had rune tattoos, which marked him a Shadowhunter. He was also currently writhing in pain and bleeding all over the place.
What was a Warlock to do with such a man?

Alec goes back in time. Then things get complicated but oddly sweet, and they stay that way. Ragnor is just along for the ride.
Shit - falling for Izzy’s professor was definitely not on the explicitly detailed itemized list of responsibilities for covering her advanced physics class this week.
Maia takes a deep breath, looking up to catch his gaze. Her face twitches, caught in a pre-emptive wince. “Alec’s getting married,” she says. "To a man this time. Khalid Elmasry of the Cairo Institute.”
“Oh,” Magnus says, careful to make sure his face is wiped of all expression. “I see.”
(Or: Everyone in the Shadow World thinks Alec Lightwood is getting married to the strong, handsome Shadowhunter visiting from Egypt... except for Alec.)
Magnus is angry and heartbroken, but should have known better than to make a deal with the Seelie Queen.
Now Alec has to suffer for it.
But the Seelie Queen may have miscalculated, and now the entire Shadow World will get a shock that they never expected.
Alexander slowly removed his fingers from Magnus' forehead.
Magnus noticed that there was pain in Alexander's eyes as well. Never before had Magnus met a demon who had emotions.
Alexander backed away slowly, his eyes trained on Magnus'.
Magnus wanted to walk forward with him.
And then Magnus wanted to hit himself.
This was a demon. Alexander wasn't a person. But why had he shown Magnus his worst memory instead of Magnus' own?
“Daddy isn't dead, Papa,” Rafael states, and Magnus’ stomach drops.
“Rafe…” Magnus trails off, unable to figure out what he could possibly say to fix this. He thought this was over.
He doesn't think he can deal with this. He doesn't think he can break his son's heart again.

or the one where Alec dies, but Rafael knows he's coming back home to him. Alec promised him.
"How did you manage to never run into him? He's always helping with stuff and he's even been at the institute about three weeks ago to strengthen the wards against further attacks from Valentine," she replied and looked at her brother incredulously. Alexander scrunched up his nose and shrugged.
"Well, maybe I have better things to do than waiting around to watch some overrated warlock do magic tricks," he commented a little defensively but it was the truth. He always had something to do and even when they were not out demon hunting, he had either paperwork to do or train.
"Pardon me, but I'm not just some overrated warlock. I'm the High Warlock of Brooklyn and that title is well deserved, if I may say so. And I'm appalled that you refer to my magic as petty tricks. You Nephilim always act to high and mighty, yet you're constantly in need of some tricks from overrated warlocks to help you out of some unnecessary dilemma," a foreign voice interjected and Alec whirled around, fingers instinctively curling around his bow to be ready to attack if need be. The owner of the voice was not what Alexander had expected, to be honest.
