no position i can get in is comfortable. I try to toss and turn but my arm is far too heavy.
the pain meds they gave me make me dizzy and drowsy but i can’t fall asleep. When i do sleep i am forced to relive memories:
falling towards the ground and landing on the ice, the relentless shock of pain of both bones snapping and my arm bending in a way it never should, screams and sobs while i call for someone, anyone.
i felt beautiful that day. I woke early to take care of my hair, to dress up for work. they cut my favorite shirt off me and discarded the scraps in the corner of the room.
watching that hurt almost as much as my arm.
i try not to move as they reset by bones. but i do not stop myself from screaming. When they’re done, a nurse pats my leg and tells me it’s all over.
i can do little myself anymore. getting dressed. showering. doing my hair and brushing my teeth. cooking. writing. typing.
every time i ask for help the pain in my arm reminds me that i am a burden.
