do tell me more about this lunar eclipse what’s up w it

Astronomically it’s a big deal because it’s going to last for a few hours, which is a lot longer than most eclipses last (plus it’s a blood moon!) but in a spiritual/astrological sense, it’s important because during a lunar eclipse, we essentially experience an entire moon cycle in the span of one day. The moon will be completely full, New, and full again within the eclipse. A lot of people may be experiencing a ton of tension in their lives right now; overly intense emotions, feeling lost or out of touch with their lives, meaningless drama and conflict with friends and family, or just a general sense of “nothing is right and everything is falling apart.” This is because right now, the universe wants to push and burn through all of the stagnant, unused, pent up energy being held within our lives. This eclipse won’t just start a new chapter, but for many of us it will begin an entirely new way of life. We’re clearing out the old to make room for an incredible array of new things to come! At the start of the leo season, we’re gearing up to leave behind what no longer helps us, and beginning to search for and find what will. If you’ve been wanting to quit an addiction, leave a relationship, change career paths or take up an intimidating new passion, this is the time to do it! If you’ve been waiting for a sign to do something big and bold, the full moon and it’s eclipse will provide a great wave of change on which to do so. That’s just what I’m feeling anyways

Dear non-natives

The Plains warbonnet is not a Cherokee thing. It is not a Navajo thing. It is not an Indian thing. It is a Plains thing.

Stop calling every silly thing you draw that even vaguely resembles a native “Cherokee” or “Navajo” or “Aztec.”

Stop drawing the warbonnet everywhere as the apparently definitive native thing. It isn’t part of all of our 600+ cultures.

Same goes for the tipi, not part of every one of the 600+ indigenous cultures.

Stop thinking that if a native person doesn’t have dark, “mahogany” skin, that their heritage is invalid. Even without admixture, we actually do have varying skin tones.

Stop wearing crappy fake warbonnets.

Stop wearing redface.

Stop using us as your silly mascots. We are people.

Stop saying “spirit animal.” It’s derived from a New Age bastardization of a something that actually exists in some of our cultures.

Don’t smudge. Cleanse all you like, that’s fine, but don’t smudge.

Don’t call us “Indians.” “Native American” isn’t great either, it is not our name, but it’s slightly better than “Indian.” “Indigenous” is also fine.

Don’t use NDN/ndn. That is ours.

Step off about our hair. If you meet a long-haired native, admire it if you like, maybe even ask them about it (RESPECTFULLY), but do not touch. The same applies for someone with short hair, but additionally for those with short hair, don’t say things like “oh you’d look more native/Indian/etc if your hair was long.” We didn’t all traditionally have long, flowing hair. Believe it or not, there are actually different haircuts existing in our various cultures, and aside from that ultimately it’s a personal choice, one does not need to have long hair if they don’t want to. Doesn’t make them any less native to have short hair.

Don’t pray to our spirits/gods/energies. Native spiritualities are closed, they are not for outsiders.

Don’t say “The Native Americans believed…” Firstly, the past tense is silly, we still exist and do things. Secondly, we are NOT A MONOLITH. As I mentioned before, there are upwards of 600 different Native American cultures.

Don’t ask about someone’s “Indian name.” That’s not only insensitive, the name you are referring to in that instance is something sacred, and might not be something that person wants to share with you.

Don’t call yourself silly crap like “howling wolf” or “flying eagle.” That’s also racist and insensitive.

Regardless of whatever you might think you’re doing, or what your intentions may be, if a native person tells you that what you’re doing is disrespectful, STOP DOING IT.

You aren’t honoring us. You’re just mocking us further, demonstrating your continued ability to treat us like shit and get away with it even now, centuries after our colonization began. Your feelings are not more important than our history and survival.

To those doing your best as allies, thank you, keep doing what you do. HOWEVER, don’t let opportunities to educate others escape you. By letting them continue to be ignorant, you are failing. Spread the message.

There will be no “please.” It’s been more than 500 years, and we still are made to be invisible in our homelands. Still we are treated like less. Some even think we all died long ago.

We are still here

We will still be here

Treat us with respect.

Appropriation of Native cultures runs rampant in the pagan/witchcraft community. Remember, it’s just like kindergarten. Be kind, be respectful, and ask before touching something that does not belong to you. -Bri

Always reblog this shit

Would just Natives be okay?

I plan on making tutorials for writing the Hyrulian Scripts

I plan on doing Fourth Hylian, Gerudo, and Sheikah. Which one do you guys want to see first? Or would you rather me do it by letter? I’ll even see about making practice sheets if you guys are interested in that. Reblog this post with your ideas and opinions! (I can’t respond directly to replies, so reblogs work better to make sure I see everything).

I'd wanna see Sheikah or Fourth Hylian first, personally, but I love all three, so in the end I'm happy with any of them

Moving Out - Witchcraft Edition

So you’re moving into your own place for the first time - this might be the first opportunity you’ve ever had to practice magick freely, which is a wonderful feeling. Here are two very important tips on what to do before you get settled in to your new place!

  1. Cleanse everything. This includes mundane and magickal cleaning and cleansing, alike. The previous tenants might have left a mess, especially if you’re moving into a home that is managed by a single renter rather than an apartment building. That being said, move stuff around if you can, and clean under and between all the little cracks and crevices you can find. Once you have physically cleaned everything, it’s time to cleanse. Doing this before you move your stuff in would be preferred. How you choose to cleanse the place is up to you, but it’s never a bad idea to get rid of any lingering energy from the previous tenants so you have a fresh slate to start with.
  2. Protect yourself. Make sure that the locks on doors and windows function properly before moving in. Check for things like gas leaks or leaky faucets, and try to get those fixed ASAP - apartments are usually responsible for maintaining these things before anyone moves in, and private renters will usually fix anything that was wrong with the house before you stepped foot in the door. While it’s their job to fix the problem, it’s your job to report them - they can’t fix something if they don’t know it’s broken. Make sure your house keys actually function, and have a plan for if you ever get locked out. Now, put up wards - ward your locks, your doors, your windows. Surround your property with a powder that will keep out intruders or unwanted guests. Make a wreath to hang on your front door using plants known for their protective qualities. Keep a protective witch bottle outside of your home - stuff it in a potted plant if you don’t want it out in the open. Hang protective amulets above each entrance to your home, or at least the front door. The possibilities are endless, but magickal protection is a useful addition to the mundane things I mentioned above.

Witch Tip:

You’ve probably heard this from a million other witches, but I want to stress the importance of CLEANSING. CLEANSE YOURSELF. CLEANSE THE AREA YOU PRACTICE MAGICK IN. CLEANSE YOUR TOOLS. CLEANSE THE TOOLS YOU CLEANSE WITH. I am not joking, little witchlings. This is super duper serious. when I was a young, dumb little practitioner, I thought it too tedious and unnecessary to go around cleansing every little thing. So I thought it’d be fine for me to not cleanse anything at all. oh, dear stars, was I wrong. for entire years, I couldn’t perform a ritual or cast a spell or do ANY little magickal thing without it backfiring or something horrible happening in the very near future. it seriously, genuinely hurt me to practice magick without keeping my safety and comfort as a top priority. so please, dear witchlings, learn the importance of cleansing before you take a slap to the face later on in life for neglecting it. ESPECIALLY if you’re in a home absolutely infected with negativity and drama coming from your housemates, be them family or roommates, what have you. You know what I’m talking about. The living situation where you literally can’t walk out of your room without someone trying to rain on your parade. I was in that place once, please learn this, or regret it forever.

I’m just gonna hop on this post and recommend buying some kind of herbal/scented soap so that you can double on your shower duty: clean and cleanse. Sandalwood, lavender…whatever you can improvise, just try adding it to your routine. I really recommend it.

●Or just empower your usual brand of shower cleansing agent (soap or bodywash) to cleanse yourself. ●Cleanse with the natural energy of the sun or moon or the stars ●Use candy or fruit or bread to cleanse yourself after a particularly bad event ⚠You don’t need much to cleanse yourself⚠

Tip for the non-shuffler of the Tarot

Raise your hand if you’re shit at shuffling cards.

Same.

We all know shuffling cards is one of the biggest things about tarot-how else are you going to get the energy onto the cards and actually make sure you’re not pulling cards from a previous reading that has no relevance? Well, actually, you just do this simple thing where you:

  1. Do whatever your pre-reading ritual is if you have one
  2. Take your deck and slap down three cards side by side. One, two, three-just like that.
  3. Focus on your question like you would if you were shuffling.
  4. As you’re focusing, keep slapping down cards onto of the three you put down. One, two, three, one, two, three (or do a remix, if you want to get jazzy with it. One two three three one two-whatever).
  5. Do this until all the cards are gone.
  6. The stack with the last card will go onto of the stack with the third to last card. That stack will then go on top of the second to last card stack.
  7. There: shuffled cards.
  8. Do your thing

Paper Magic with Origami and a Japanese Legend

Have you ever heard the story about Sadako Sasaki and the 1,000 cranes? In Japan there is an ancient legend that if a person were to fold 1,000 paper cranes they would receive a wish granted by the gods. Sadako Sasaki was a little girl that grew sick with leukemia after having been exposed to nuclear radiation from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. She began folding paper cranes at the age of 12 after being inspired by the legend. I read a fictionalized version of this story when I was little and it has always stuck with me and I have always associated 1,000 paper cranes as a myth to heal leukemia.

So here I am attempting to fold as many pink and white paper cranes as possible for a coworker that is currently battling breast cancer. This, my friends, is an example of paper magic. A spell is the act of directing your intent and power towards a specific outcome often with props that help focus your intent. I am folding paper cranes that I associate with healing cancer and selected the color of my cranes based on the color used to symbolize the specific form of cancer. As I fold each crane my intent is worked into those folds crane after crane. The jar is slowing filling with a physical manifestation of my care and hope for my coworker for healing and strength during the course of her battle.

I could go further. I could create an infusion with or without essential oil that I could use to either trace a sigil of healing and strength on each square a paper before folding and/or lightly spritz the finished cranes or into the jar periodically. I could pass the squares of paper through the smoke of a personally blended incense. I could burn the incense while folding. I could burn a candle in pink or white or green that could also be anointed with the above mentioned infusion. I could include in the jar a satchel including plants and/or stones.

I find paper magic very difficult to pin down and define when I am asked what it is, but the more examples one sees the more one is able to understand what can be included as paper magic. I mean, it’s magic, the possibilities are endless once you start thinking the right way.

Hateno Milk

“This fresh milk comes from Hateno cows and white goats in the village. It’s delicious on its own but can also be used as an ingredient in soups and stews.
Make this by heating up some milk. Drink it before bed to ensure a good night’s sleep.”

This is just a really simple, easy recipe that you can embellish however you like. You can drink it hot or cold. Makes two servings.

Ingredients: - Two cups milk of choice - Honey, to taste - One teaspoon vanilla or almond extract - a pinch of salt - a pot or mug

Heat milk in the pot until just hot, or, heat milk in mug in the microwave until hot. Stir in honey, vanilla and salt. Serve hot, or, wait for it to cool and store in the fridge for later. And that’s it! This also makes an excellent libation offering.

I bet mermaids are really great astronomers. I mean, their eyes must be super sensitive to light if they can see underwater, and there’s no place with clearer skies than the open ocean.

What if they found navigational equipment from sunken explorers’ ships and turned the old telescope designs and star charts into something more compatible with their habitat? Optics made of polished sea-glass, extraterrestrial communications systems based on the languages of different sea creatures, etc.

People on land talk about how they know as little about the oceans as they do about outer space, but merfolk already have the seas figured out.

So of course, what are they going to explore next? I think the answer is just as clear as it is awesome.

Tip: Make sure everything is dry so it doesn’t grow moldy!

You will need:

  1. A jar, any jar, really.
  2. Two acorns
  3. Basil
  4. Nutmeg
  5. Cinnamon
  6. Jasmine
  7. One piece of Citrine

Further directions:

As you put all of your ingredients into your jar, visualize lucky energy pouring into it (it’s usually green for me.) Make your intent very clear! Ingredients can be switched up depending on the type of luck you want. When your jar is finished, seal it with white or green candle wax and set somewhere you can see it. (ex: a windowsill, on an altar.)

Lost Something?

Here’s a quick and easy spell I always use when I’m having trouble finding a lost object.

Stand in a clear space in the room where you’re searching, look up at the ceiling, and clap your hands three times.

Household spirits, gather round Let now what is lost be found

Let your gaze fall where it will. Check for the lost item in the first place that draws your attention.

I use this often. It never fails. Seriously. Works. Every. Time.

It helps to leave out some sweets or a glass of juice or wine every so often to keep those little helper spirits happy.
