It is violent that we cannot touch each other, yet. It’s a war crime. It should be illegal that my fingers still haven’t learned the notches of your back. I think about holding your wrist in the O of my thumb and my index finger. I think about kissing the blue veins there. I think about careful mouth touches, and the tender of you. The warm, soft hollow of you, and how I lose my bottom lip wondering about yours. I’ll kiss you there, I promise. I promise.

when in vegas, right ? jo had taken to the party city’s atmosphere with full swing; it was the first stop, and after the long car ride ( wedged in between merrin and carolina ), her cabin fever was running high. she’d hit the roulette first, blowing half her meagre funds on red before winning big at poker, leaving the table with an extra $500 and a too-big gold wristwatch off some texan millionaire. her spree of victories was enough to make her cocky, and the brunette had to admit that she had no particular desire to return back to her room anytime soon. so she’d decided to try her luck with the slots — one hand around a glass of whiskey, watch rattling around her wrist everytime she reached for the buttons — and had been perfectly happy doing so, until an all-too-familiar voice caught her attention. eyeballs rolling, the girl shifted slightly in her stance to find the source, immediately wishing she’d just ignored it. oh,  i have been — lowering her voice, every word drawn sweetly out, jo cocked her head to watch him closely. she licked her lips. because you’re right. i just can’t trust myself around you. she let her gaze linger deliberately on his features, bright eyes glancing over from behind long eyelashes, before breaking the quiet beween them abruptly. i can’t trust myself not to knock you into next week, avellino. brows furrowing, josie turned her attention wholly back to the machine. now, d’you mind ? i’m trying to win a few bucks here. ”

with a playful roll of his eyes, he remained leaned against the machine, amusement making itself known by expelling occasional bursts of laughter from his chest. josie offered a different tone of conversation, attempts at flirting that went past the bounds of miller batting his eyelashes and smirking. " that’s hot. ” miller drawls, pulling his phone from his back pocket, intensely concerned with swiping the glass to sort emails into their correct files. eventually, he lifted his dark hues up, her countenance a very present reminder of what exactly drew him to approach her, a small grin stretching across his face.  knock me out whenever you want, jo. he then quipped without much shame, followed by a quick shrug of his shoulders.but, not right now — ‘cause we’re goin’ out tonight and i need to look my best. i’m tryin’ to impresshis efforts had now switched gears, a deceitful warmth in his gaze as he attempted to capture jo’s attention. he’d tried many different tactics with her, none of which seemed to stick. he wasn’t optimistic enough to think tonight would be any different, but she was entertaining in her attempts of scaring him away. “ you comin’ ? or, are you gonna’ stand here all night ?

as the door closes behind her she lifts her gaze to see him standing with his back to her. she admires for a moment from a distance, having not been able to regard him as such while around the hapless group of people they called friends. soft hum of approval rumbles in her chest and slips from her throat as his eyes lift to meet hers in the mirror. is that so ? ’ perfectly groomed eyebrow arches slightly at his comment, soft smile playing upon her delicate features as his eyes turn to lock on hers and he’s backing her up against the bathroom counter. her hands come to rest on the sides of his neck, digits of one hand entangling themselves in his hair as his lips met hers that first time. his grip on her waist only escalates as he slides his hands down to the curve of her ass and guides her body towards him. she hadn’t appreciated the distance —— was thankful when it was gone. she was able to relax when she was with him, a valuable thing that kept her coming back again and again. well, that and the sex. it was like she couldn’t get enough, every pseudo-casual tryst ending with her wanting MORE. she may as well have been shackled by the cuffs of his coarse digits, as he was just another drug she’d become hopelessly addicted to. ‘ miller .. his name is but a breath on her lips as his mouth collides with her jaw and she shivers at the shift in his tone. as his lips move down her neck, she will reach up to delicately guide the thin strap of her silk camisole off of her shoulder.  you didn’t just bring me in here to kiss me, did you ? ’ the blonde smirks —— doe-eyed and rosy-cheeked despite her words being somewhat of a challenge, a demand. merrin places the palms of her hands on the counter top and hops up onto it, legs parting before she’s pulling him towards her and one hand ventures between his thighs to massage him through his pants.

miller draws a sharp breath and clears his throat, attempting to mask his reaction to her touch by capturing her lips in a rough kiss, movements no longer slow and beckoning, but desperate. he realises that he’ll soon have to decide how far they take this. he wonders how far merrin wants to take it. miller pulls his lips away, her flaxen hair gripped by his hand. " can’t talk to me like that —— he breathes against her lips, pausing to run both hands up merrin’s thighs, pushing her skirt up, while his fingers lightly pulled at the fabric of her underwear, intent to tease, evident. if you don’t want to get fucked right here. miller finishes, grip tightening as the thought flickers into his mind, subconsciously thrusting into where her hand lay. he almost gives in to the idea, rational side of his brain arguing otherwise. even as he strayed further away from sobriety, he was still mindful of the bathroom door, hypersensitive to any approaching footsteps, or the slightest of voices. should use your mouth for somethin’ better than trying to give me a challenge.  his hunger and desperation were heightening with every second, a seemingly insatiable sense of desire encompassing his mind. he lifted a hand from her thigh to reach her neck, and drew her face down towards his. their lips slid together forcefully, the growing tension between his legs now itching for friction in any way he could obtain it.

it’s been approximately forty-seven minutes since since carolina cut her losses and made her way back to the vegas hotel room alone , sixty-five minutes since she did her last line in the girl’s bathroom of a crowded club , and one hundred and twenty minutes since she last saw miller . she’d waited for him then like an idiot , just as she’s waiting now —– like an idiot . and if there’s one thing carolina gonzalez hates more than anything in the world , it’s feeling like an idiot . it’s something she’d learn from her father , whose favorite catchphrase was     never let people take you for a fool . and if you must , do everything you can to not to do it twice .     it’s why , when miller finally stumbles into their room , drunk out of his tiny little mind , she doesn’t hit him like the immediately wants to . carolina is cool and calculating , and though miller makes her feel like the biggest idiot in the universe , the best way to act like the opposite of an idiot is to remain calm .  (  for now .  )  she takes a step from outside the small bathroom , arms folded over her chest , stare burning holes through his messy tie . in lieu of an answer , she questions him .     where were you ?   ’
image
what d’you mean ? he response dryly, lazily pushing himself to sit up on the bed, giving himself a clearer view of carolina. her arms were folded, and by law, he was in trouble. it was now a matter of how long they’d play games until one of them combusts. often, miller’s shamefully overinflated ego would be his own worst enemy, barring him access to meaningful friendships and even more meaningful relationships, a fatal flaw accompanied by a serious lack of filter processing the impact of his words. it was painfully obvious from her short response and the piercing gaze that hit his like knives, that she was anything but convinced. carolina wasn’t stupid, he knew that with confidence, but she was forgiving. almost to a fault. “ was at the club with everyone.  miller looks at her, a small part of him wishing he had a fragment of humanity to be honest, to give her something she deserved. he was no stranger to pushing people away from him, it was something he did artfully, but at times, it was more effort than it was worth.  i looked for you, promisethis part between the pair always seemed to be the hardest. she was becoming too familiar with his pre-rehearsed lines, too sensitive to his offhand remarks, all of which drained further effort from the male to prevent her from wanting nothing to do with him. miller rolls his eyes in exhaustion, head pounding with regret from the liquor.  don’t look at me like that, caro.

his voice over her shoulder came as a surprise, but the words that left his lips were nothing new. she’ll turn slowly to him as her eyes lift to meet his gaze as little plastic straw departs from supple lips. the drink in her hand had very recently been purchased by a fellow at a table who was now looking her way a bit angrily as miller’s hand imparted a light grip on her thigh. she couldn’t help but smirk, lively eyes darting away from the man she’d swindled into buying her drink and back to miller as he amended his original statement. ( two minutes. ) their body language speaks to much more than what everyone else in their group thought that were. based off of how infrequently they interacted around the others, you would think they hardly knew each other .. you’d think they were practically strangers. soft sigh emits from the femme —— she’s pulling the straw back into her mouth and sipping at her drink as he brought his own empty glass down onto the bar. the intensity with which he discarded the vessel was reminiscent of the intensity with which he discarded both people’s feelings and his parent’s money. she lets him leave without responding, gaze meeting his briefly before he sauntered off to to their designated meeting spot. merrin finished her drink and placed it on the counter beside his, which still had not been collected by the bartender. observing the smudges of red lipstick left on her glass, she frowned briefly before pulling out a compact and touching it up. pressing her lips together, slender female drops the compact and lipstick back into her purse and delicately departs from the bar. she’s careful as she moves, eyes darting around to make sure that no one she knows is watching as she slips into the men’s restroom.

" hope i didn’t pull you away from anything important.  he’s looking in the mirror as she walks in, hand attempting to reshape his hair that had fallen victim to humidity. she looks better beneath the harsh bathroom lighting. it’s a lavish bathroom with more than enough room for the two of them. luckily, he doesn’t hear any footsteps, signalling that they’d be alone for now. two large vases of flowers adorn the pristine marble countertop, and he thinks of bending her over it if it would be socially acceptable. above it is a mirror stretching over the entire wall and when miller catches a glimpse of their reflections, a thrill hits his spine. didn’t have public indecency in mind, but —— i‘ve been watchin’ you all night. miller raises his head from looking merrin up and down, finally meeting her eyes, and now the teasing sparkle is back. he backs her up against the counter, hands wrapped around her petite waist and placing short, soft kisses against her lips at every step. and how much i’ve been wanting to do this —— ” he stops, hand sliding down from her waist to merrin’s ass, pulling her body in tighter. her skin is always warm when he touches her, with a sparking intensity in the air between them. it was a feeling he couldn’t quit, despite his confidence with women, and the plethora of partners he’s had, this was unique. any imitations didn’t come close. “ and this. ” the playfulness is gone from his voice, tone now grave. he grins to himself as he presses a kiss against her jaw, trailing to peck a line down her shoulder, innocent and undemanding —— aware that merrin knew he planned for their impromptu meeting to end differently.

miller didn’t gamble — the action felt like an attempt to encourage unwanted fate of loss, regardless of skill or riches. he had no intention of visiting the casino during their stay and merely wished to reside at the hotel’s bar. on his journey, he noticed a familiar figure in the distance, instead, travelling down the adjacent steps and towards the brunette. the male found herself gravitating towards her on occasion, against the rational fear in his mind, phrenic conception circulating as he quickened the pace of his steps to follow after her, his longer strides serving as an advantage. " sinclair ! miller called out, unashamed of the volume of his voice, approaching josie stood at a slot machine. a coy smile lingers over her lips, maintaining a small silence as he took in her features. “ you’re avoidin’ me, aren’t you ? ” miller refuses to miss a beat before making sure to tease jo, mentally playing his own betting game of: how long will it take for josie to storm off in the opposite direction?haven’t seen you since we checked in.he asks, only speaking loud enough to be heard above the casino ambience. or, perhaps, you can’t trust yourself ‘round me. he pauses to lean against the machine between them. “ probably the latter.
