And Galavant is a good parody because it recognises the good in the genre! It recognises how we want the hero to win! We want the knight and the princess to get married and be able to settle by the sea! We want so bad for the lizard to actually be a dragon! We want the world to be fair and just and a little magical and heroic! And then it gives us all those endings we want because they're good things to wish for, and the value of the genre is in large part that it gives them to us
#the good parodies love their genre #obviously #we know this #but they also provide the good of the genre in the end #'subversive' stories can so often be meh because they don't give what we want! #we WANT to believe we can be better than we are and that we could save the world we could do a great good and Galaxy Quest #gives us that! #we WANT to believe in true love and happily ever afters and Enchanted gives us those!!! #a good parody ultimately returns to the roots of the genre with a sigh and a nod and lot of love to human narrative instincts (op's tags)
