What if... 1. Kusaka didn't die and Muramasa didn't disappear 2. a shinigami without a zanpakutou resonates with a shinigami-less zanpakutou 3. that shinigami-less zanpakutou is also a Kuchiki heirloom
It’s easy: After proving himself worthy, Kusaka Sojiro is adopted into the Kuchiki family and receives Muramasa to be a shinigami after all. He proves himself invaluable with Muramasa by his side when the Gotei 13 face internal struggles and gets promoted to captain of Fifth Division, the newly declared internal affairs division.

Okay, @billywick and I are on our 4th re-watching of AMC’s The Terror and it is fantastic and I’m in love with the show, especially with Fitzjames and Crozier and their wonderful relationship.

I believe Kael dying for the first time after he joined the war of the ancients surely was unbelievable to him. That such a thing would ever happen! To him!
