Local emo man wants nothing to do with me, so I show up at his house and give him shiny rocks until he loves me. ( Can't wait for 1.6 to come to the switch so I can see the new winter fits ❄️)

I'm too old for this list.

I'm old enough that including Pokemon wouldn't help, because I was watching Sailor Moon before Ash first got Pikachu.

Okay, I'll add some of my earlier remembered anime titles:

These are, of course, just the ones I remember off the top of my head. There were plenty of others. I also included a few that were before the big anime boom of the late 90s/early 00s, though I'm sure there are more I don't know about.

Anyway, if you don't vote for Biden to Teach Him A Lesson and Trump wins, I'm sure all the thousands more Palestinians killed in Gaza when Trump gives Netanyahu full steam ahead and pulls all diplomatic support for a ceasefire/peace process, the Ukrainians and/or other Eastern Europeans likewise genocided when Trump gives Putin everything he wants and pulls out of NATO, the immigrants deported and put in concentration camps, the protesters detained en masse under the Insurrection Act, the women who die from being refused divorces and reproductive care, the LGBTQ+ people legislated and harassed out of public life, the people of color murdered by fully sanctioned white supremacy, and the societies around the world affected by America's collapse into a theocratic fascist dictatorship will definitely fall at your feet in thanks and give you the Gold Medal For Twitter Social Justice. So yknow, that's very important.

you block ‘liberally’ you say? Well I block marxistly. Just one of the many ways in which I’m better than you

hey good faith question- do you mind elaborating on judaism’s belief of g-d not being the ‘one true g-d’ and just the ‘g-d of the hebrews?

Avatar

sure, but keep in mind that I wasn't raised in a religious house, so I'm not an expert and this could be inaccurate, you could wait to see if other people would elaborate in reblogs or replies.

a lot of religions have the belief that they worship the true g-d(s) and everyone else is wrong and are worshipping (a) false g-d(s). I believe Christianity works like that.

in the Tanach, there is no claim that other religions' g-ds don't exist, in fact, there are instances were miracles from other g-ds happen, but the jewish g-d is described as unique and stronger than others.

for example, in the story of The Exodus (is that how יציאת מצרים is called in english), when Moses comes to the Pharaoh for the first time to ask to release the Hebrews, he showcases Hashem's (the Jewish g-d) strength by turning his staff into a snake, the Pharaoh's magicians(?) then proceed to also turn their staffs into snakes, but Moses's snake eats theirs. the story doesn't show their g-ds as non-existent, they gave the magicians the same powers as Hashem, but the power of Hashem was stronger and thus Moses's snake won over the other snakes.

foreign worship is banned in Judaism, not because the foreign g-ds are false, but because they're not Hashem, I don't know how to explain it but that's how it works.

This is, I think, my understanding as well I'm also not an expert, so grain of salt.

I've studied some Torah portions recently and, yeah, other gods exist, but Hashem is uniquely "powerful" and the Jews are His chosen people.

The Egyptian gods are described as existing in Exodus, but as small or petty.

Genesis describes the "sons of god" and Nephilim having relations with "daughters of man." Whether these are children of other gods or children of Seth or fallen angels is up to debate, but they could be a reference to "other" gods.

Essentially we have a contract with Him and it has an exclusivity clause.

Also in the Maggid it says that he passed judgement upon their gods, implying that 1) they are real, and 2) He has the power to Do That

Early Judaism was monolatrous and not monotheist, even today many Jews lean toward monolatry.

Also, non-Jews aren't called to follow the mitzvot, those laws only apply to Jews; the people who have been chosen to take on the covenant.

Okay, this is a memey answer, but for “let’s give you an idea and then we can start This Discussion 101” purposes, it’ll work:

This is our G-d. There are many like Him, but this One is ours.

So basically, Dolly the sheep was an accident. They were trying to clone sheep cells, and they ended up unintentally generating an embryo, which turned out to be viable, hence we got Dolly.

The method they used proved unsuccessful in primates, and the risk of cloning primates (and thus humans) outweighs the benefits (because there really aren't any real benefits, scientifically speaking), so they don't do it.

Where it's most likely to be used is in agriculture, cloning livestock embryos.

What they use cloning for is stem cells. Cloning adult cells to create stem cells means they don't need embryonic stem cells, which is probably the most important thing that came from cloning research in the past 25 years.

The reason it was so important was that it proved that you didn't need an embryonic cell to clone live animals. The nucleus of an adult cell contains all the DNA you need to clone, because Dolly was cloned from an adult cell, which was previously unheard of. Now they know that adults cells can be reprogrammed back to an embryonic stage, and was a major breakthrough for stem cell research.

So basically, we don't hear about cloning anymore because they aren't doing anything that is so exciting it will capture the world's interest, like Dolly did. But it was a major scientific breakthrough that is still very important.

One of my favourite cloned animals is Kurt, a Przewalski's Horse who was cloned from the preserved samples from a horse that died in the 90's so that he can hopefully introduce some additional genetic diversity into the Przewalski's Horse population. Oh hey there's actually two clones of this one horse now, the second one is Ollie who was born last year. Kurt is now about four years old. Last I checked he was at the San Diego Zoo.

We don't tend to clone animals that are more common because we already have a very efficient machine for making sheep, it's called sheep.

okay what did i miss

(yes some of these overlap and some are suppositions. for example if parchment is always used for ephemera, rough drafts, notes, and never re-used or re-purposed, we can also assume that the author is unaware of wax tablets as a concept)

realised I did at least two of these in my little medieval novella 😭

as penance you have to write us a novella with a sexy professional scribe who spends about 80% of the book lovingly preparing a piece of parchment for writing

drypoint ruling as foreplay. it's the next big thing

rich people be losing theoretical money and making it our problem. like imagine anyone not wealthy being like "this is how much money I thought I would be making and since I'm not, I'm taking it from someone who needs it way more than me" and then we call it inflation or rising costs of living

i learned about Tim Wong who successfully and singlehandedly repopulated the rare California Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly in San Francisco. In the past few years, he’s cultivated more than 200 pipevine plants (their only food source) and gives thousands of caterpillars to his local Botanical Garden (x)
