Pour one out for a real one.

Reading up on him, he was a pretty cool guy. He was one of the first people to stand up to John Money about his theories of gender development and position that intersex infants should receive surgery and never be told about it using his abuse of David Reimer as ‘proof’, asserting that Money didn’t have the evidence and standing his ground even when Money straight up started screaming at him. And then later he was proven right when he got into contact with David Reimer, not only discovering proof that Money was wrong but also how abusive and horrific Money had been. He then went on to write advocating for intersex and trans rights and to avoid unnecessary procedures on intersex people without full informed consent and that intersex people are part of natural human variation and that we deserve acceptance and not to be treated like a disorder.

A quote I really like from him: ‘Nature loves diversity, society hates it’

I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw, a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

Some types of unreliable narrator:

The Watson: is present for the event but does not have the same level of perception as protagonist

The Lemony Snicket: isn't present for the event, reconstructs the facts based on later research, can get things wrong or incomplete

The Ted Moseby: is present for the event but has romanticised and embellished their memory of it through nostalgia to an extent that you cannot fully believe it; is also prone to misremembering or outright forgetting details.

The Katniss Everdeen: is present for the event, is the protagonist, but is completely foreign to the world and out of their depth so they don't quite understand a lot of what is going on.

The Rose Quartz: is present for the event, but due to their personal agenda or feelings of shame hides and embellishes what actually happened in favour of a version that paints them in a better light.

The Big Brother: overwrites what actually happened in favour of propaganda.

The Jonathan Harker: is absolutely clueless about what is going on around them and the genre they're in so their perception of events is tinted by their own naivety.

The Goob: the narrator's own emotional bias clouds their judgement of what really happened.

The Tyler Durden: the narrator is suffering from hallucinations and doesn't realise it.

The Pi: the narrator has survived a traumatic experience and copes with it by turning it into a wonderful tale.

Everyone is the unreliable narrator of their own lives.

EVERYONE! IS THE! UNRELIABLE! NARRATOR! OF THEIR OWN LIVES!!

Three days ago, the Israeli military dropped flyers ordering displaced people and residents of Rafah to leave. In the orders where people were told to move out of Rafah, the military said it was “about to operate with force against the terror organisations in the area”. A UN estimate says there are 1.2 million people sheltering in dire conditions in Rafah, Gaza's southern city. The "full-blown famine" that has taken hold in the north of Gaza has spread to the south, Cindy McCain, the head of the World Food Programme, confirmed over the weekend. There are roughly 200 Palestinians that are being forcibly displaced from Rafah every hour, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) said on Wednesday. During an online press briefing, medical doctors and humanitarian aid workers reporting from the ground in Gaza spoke about the impossible feat of moving people from Rafah, as people are ridden by famine plus a collapsed transportation and healthcare system. "There are children and elderly that are so starved that they can barely walk. These people cannot just relocate to another area, to so-called 'safe zones'. It is not possible," Alexandra Saieh, head of humanitarian policy from Save the Children, said. Several aid workers have expressed that there is no "safe" area in the Gaza Strip for people to relocate to. "The concept of safe zones is a lie," Helena Marchal, from Medecins du Monde, said. Aid workers also reiterated the difficulty of getting aid both into Gaza and then distributing it. Both the Rafah and the Kerem Shalom crossings, through which most aid reached the besieged Strip, have closed since Sunday evening. Roads across Gaza are largely destroyed or blocked by people sheltering, contributing to the difficulty of movement of both goods and people. Only a very limited number of routes, especially between the north and south, are available for humanitarian use, Jeremy Konyndyk, from Refugees International, explained. Another issue is overcrowding. "In Deir al-Balah and the Mawasi area on the outskirts of the Rafah and Khan Younis governorates, there is barely any space. There are tents everywhere, on the beach, on the sidewalks, the streets, the graveyards, the courtyards of the hospitals, in the courtyards of the schools," Ghada Alhaddad, from Oxfam International, said. Saieh explained that it took her team six weeks and four failed attempts to move a couple of hundred food parcels from Rafah to the north of Gaza. "One litre of fuel cost $40 yesterday," according to Ranchal. Fuel enters through the Rafah crossing. If the fuel is cut off, the aid operation collapses," Konyndyk said.

my fucking goodness. y’all, this situation with kendrick/drake is serious alongside every other atrocious thing happening in the world right now. you can pay attention to multiple things. have some of y’all not heard about the awful shit drake has done?

reminder: there’s evidence of drake grooming minors and kissing one. furthermore, more children’s lives are at stake if there is a sex trafficking ring involving drake and other people part of the industry (in which there is a lot pointing towards that there is). stop fucking minimizing this.

also, yes kendrick is not at all a “Perfect Morally Good” person, but the fact that he is using his platform to call this man out on shit explicitly is monumental. should black women have been heard when they were calling out drake to begin with? abso fucking lutely. however, here we are now and y’all need to stop reducing the importance of what’s happening just like with anything else today.

netizens are desensitising gruesome things that are taking place in Palestine.

even the internet’s reaction to graphic things such as - pictures of injured children, civilians stuck under rubble, dead bodies of families in their destroyed homes etc. is beyond underwhelming.

DO NOT NORMALISE GENOCIDE.

BREAK THE STIGMA.

I'm very tired of this "queer college students should stop supporting Palestine, they'd kill you there!" I watched a hijabi ask a trans man, "but what name do you want to go by?" A butch giving a woman their hoodie so that she could keep her hair covered after the cops took her scarf. Muslim girls making sure the lesbian couple got through the system together. Religious men making sure green haired protestors got out safe. A Palestinian girl with an ex-southern baptist fiance, who definitely isn't a practicing Muslim, whose parents were raising hell for her. I don't want to hear it. Solidarity forever, free Palestine.

And also, the group currently (and historically) most violently oppressing and murdering queer people in Gaza is the IDF. A queer person in Gaza has their freedoms most acutely violated on a daily basis by the state of Israel.

If someone wants to argue that Hamas is a bigoted organization, yeah, they are, but you CANNOT use that argument to shield the state of Israel; as though the queer Palestinians would be free to live their truth under Israel's apartheid, if only Hamas wasn't around.

Get rid of Hamas and queer Palestinians still do not have freedom of movement, freedom of return, equal rights under the law, or any fucking access to healthcare or education, because the IDF has systemically leveled all the schools and hospitals.

Israel's bombs do not magically curve around to miss the houses of lesbians, their warheads don't make exceptions for doctors who prescribe HRT, and their soldiers don't respectfully refrain from looting the belongings of trans people. There is, at present, one great enemy of queerness in Gaza, and its tanks are rolling into Rafah as we speak.
