A fawn curled up beside a fake deer which is used for target practice.

Please note the calm looking fawn.

It’s mother has most likely used the fake deer as cover for the fawn to sleep near. I’ve personally witnessed a doe direct a fawn to lay in a patch of tall weeds and go lay on a hill where she could see me and the tall patch of weeds. That’s what they do, find something bigger than the fawn to sleep near so they’re hidden while they sleep.

This isn’t a sad child looking for something mother-like, this is a kid getting put to bed.

so the mom just managed to find the most haunting large object behind which to hide a child

@deerstar4 too good to be banished to the tags

This was my first painting of 2019. I had an image in my head. A scene of twisting roots and stone from an animated movie that never existed.

This eventually kicked off the entire explorer series I've been doing since then. The idea was to never plan anything, so the character here looks vastly different than what would eventually evolve into Mira.

(I should note, this is available as a print, I just don't mention it much.)

People who have spent the last few years crying about how “THE WOKE IS INDOCTRINATING OUR CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS” are incredibly funny in a country with the Pledge of Allegiance

For any of my followers outside the US who may not know what the Pledge of Allegiance is:

Basically, every morning in public school, everyone has to stand up, usually placing a hand on one's heart, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, which is as follows:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Now, you might be thinking "what the fuck?" and you'd be right to think that! A few things that should be added are that in most states, it isn't legal to FORCE someone to say the Pledge, or punish someone who refuses, and there have been a number of court cases where people who have tried, and the courts don't rule in their favor (so that's good). But in 47 out of our 50 states, there are laws that do require the recitation of the Pledge, although many of these states have exemptions (the full breakdown can be found here)

Another thing that is of note that has been mentioned before, but bears repeating, is that the "Under God" part was added in 1954. Totally awesome from a country founded on separation of church and state.

So yeah. I don't think the recent college grad with they/them pronouns are the most blatant example of indoctrination.

Please take the term “porn addiction” away from booktokers

Can we take it away from everyone? Bc it's not real, Evangelicals made it up

wait, really?

some context on this would be appreciated because i've been reading for years about guys who literally say they have/had addiction to porn and used it as an unhealthy coping mechanism that had negative impacts on their perception of women, relationship prospects, and even to their own body as their masturbation became dependent on it. they have whole programs and support groups and self help books modeled after substance abuse treatments and therapies with varying success. porn site comment sections are filled with people who talk about their unhealthy porn habit like it's smoking and how they wish they could quit but can't. i'm a weeb so specifically i've seen this a lot in hentai circles.

what has everyone been talking about this whole time, then, if it can't be considered a form of addiction? how might it be more rightly classified and explained? (genuine question)

Yeah, really! So there's been more and more evidence the last several years that the real issue people have in situations like you described is guilt/shame (and good old-fashioned misogyny for some of it). People who have self-described "porn addiction" don't actually watch more porn, but they are more likely to be religious and to feel ashamed of sexual desires.

Most of the programs, self-help, etc are (usually faith-based) organizations taking advantage of this shame to make money. I'm sure plenty of people who believe they're addicted to porn would really benefit from therapy, but they need therapy to work through their shame, not therapy to make them more ashamed.

Below are a couple of links. One's got a pretty clear write up of a study, and the other is the study itself, which is a meta-analysis of past studies (this is when you use data from a bunch of other studies to paint a bigger picture, and it can also be helpful for seeing if what the authors claimed they proved was actually supported by the evidence and if their results line up with others'). The abstract tells you a lot about the study, but unfortunately the rest is behind a paywall. There are ways around that if you want to really dig deep into the study.

thank you for the detailed answer and resources!

Happy to help! Not enough people ask for sources or stay open to new information, so thank you for doing both
