SACR - CHAIN THREE

In 2022, I volunteered to be the necessary non-artist needed to run an event we called the Stony Art Chain Relay, and this past fall, with some new friends and some old, we ran it again! This event works by taking a piece of art that focuses on a unique character design for Steve and Tony and passing it, without comment, to the next person in line for them to reimagine it. This continues all the way down the line until you end up with a beautiful (and fascinating!) broken telephone of incredible artwork. All weekend, I'm going to be posting the full art collections from each of the six chains, in order, so you can admire their beautiful work. Quick, Stony, somewhat-angsty idea part 1

a/b/o wolf shifter au where Howard was in charge of a remote village of shifters who are hiding from humans. With determination and a firm hand, he's been able to make this village shine with proper amenities established deep within the forest. He had goals for the future of their home and knew his heir was going to make them true and lead their village to prosperity.

Then, Tony was born. All the pride Howard had felt for the first three years of his child's life disappeared when non-alpha characteristics began appearing as Tony grew up. No dominating traits. No aggressive behavior. Nothing.

Howard couldn't have a non-alpha take charge of the village and made plans to arrange a marriage for Tony and have an alpha of his choosing take over instead, but those plans went down the drain when Tony didn't show omegan traits either. Not an alpha and not an omega. Tony ended up presenting as a beta of all things.

The disappointment Howard felt was indescribable. As a beta, Howard couldn't marry his son off as nobody in their right mind would willingly subject their child to a beta mate. They were useless in the grand scheme of things - plain. Betas were rare, but carried nothing enticing about them. Neither creating a dominating figure nor a submissive image, people were not scrambling to get their hands on them, and nobody was going out of their way to make them leaders.

And now Howard was stuck with one that offered nothing for his dream.

As the years went by and Howard became feeble, while Tony became stronger, he began to get desperate. With his mate out of the picture, and wolf shifters mating for life, he was out of options. He had to personally pick who would lead them to their future, but he first had to make sure nobody would challenge his selection.

Even if unlikely, he couldn't risk Tony usurping his choice or have the beta's followers, who were spewing forward-looking nonsense, back him as their leader.

That was not a chance he could take.

Which is why, during a harsh winter season on Tony's 19th year, he had ordered Tony to personally go and negotiate for supplies and took a small entourage to assist him. They were to leave the safety of their home and only had the trees and the snow for protection.

Regardless of any preparation done, Howard knew none of them were going to come back.

He stared out the window, looking down at his people and watching the snow fall lazily on them. At this moment, he imagined the fear they were probably feeling. Of the terror at seeing all those hunters rush them. He wondered how long they would last. Would they all fight? Would some of them run away in an attempt to survive? Would they beg to be spared?

Would Tony be killed instantly or would it be slow?

He wondered what ramifications he was going to face for making a deal with the demons of their world.

The consequences, he later found, was staring at the very child he believed dead for years, discovering those hunters didn't kill him as he had ordered, but instead imprisoned him for their sick game of what boiled down to dogfighting, and this child surviving the impossible.

A better future is possible if we have the courage to pave the roads to it. Also libraries are punk as fuck, pass it on.

SO HERE IS THE WHOLE STORY (SO FAR).

I am on my knees begging you to reblog this post and to stop reblogging the original ones I sent out yesterday. This is the complete account with all the most recent info; the other one is just sending people down senselessly panicked avenues that no longer lead anywhere.

IN SHORT

Cliff Weitzman, CEO of Speechify and (aspiring?) voice actor, used AI to scrape thousands of popular, finished works off AO3 to list them on his own for-profit website and in his attached app. He did this without getting any kind of permission from the authors of said work or informing AO3. Obviously.

When fandom at large was made aware of his theft and started pushing back, Weitzman issued a non-apology on the original social media posts—using 

as reasons we should allow him to continue monetizing fanwork for his own financial gain.

When we less-than-kindly refused, he took down his ‘apologies’ as well as his website (allegedly—it’s possible that our complaints to his web host, the deluge of emails he received or the unanticipated traffic brought it down, since there wasn’t any sort of official statement made about it), and when it came back up several hours later, all of the work formerly listed in the fan fiction category was no longer there. 

THE TAKEAWAYS

1. Cliff Weitzman (aka Ofek Weitzman) is a scumbag with no qualms about taking fanwork without permission, feeding it to AI and monetizing it for his own financial gain; 

2. Fandom can really get things done when it wants to, and 

3. Our fanworks appear to be hidden, but they’re NOT DELETED from Weitzman’s servers, and independently published, original works are still listed without the authors' permission. We need to hold this man responsible for his theft, keep an eye on both his current and future endeavors, and take action immediately when he crosses the line again.
