My First “Real” Cosplay!

I’ve attempted closet cosplays before, but this was my first real cosplay that I wore to this year’s Fan Expo in Toronto! This was my attempt at a “budget” cosplay of Princess Peach.

COST

Crown: Purchased at Party City for $9.03, spray painted gold. I bought two packages of fake jewels at Dollarama for $1.25 each ($2.50 total), as the crown didn’t come with jewels.

Dress: Purchased at Talize for $13. Took a very long time to find, but so happy I got it!

Necklace: Purchased at Giant Tiger for $4. It was a necklace with two circles, but I glued the one I didn’t want in behind, and painted the necklace blue.

Knee-High Socks: Purchased at Walmart for $7. Really warm and comfortable.

Shoes: Purchased at Talize for $4. Because they were used, they were a bit scuffed. I tried my best to fix them up, and they look pretty good!

Other Things Not Pictured

White Purse: Purchased at Value Village for $3. Would have been $6, but we got a discount! Great for holding wallets and stuff at the con, but also looked cute.

Parasol: Purchased on AliExpress for $12.61. Very fast shipping and in perfect condition! Doesn’t fold up the greatest, but looks great when open.

Earrings: Purchased at Talize for $3. Big blue circles that are exactly the colour of Peach’s!

Lipstick: Purchased at Dollar Tree for $1.25. I wasn’t needing an expensive lipstick, and this did the job!

GOAL

My goal was to spend less than the combined total of my Fan Expo ticket and my train ticket. The total of these two tickets was $65.15, the train being $20.90 and the Fan Expo ticket being $44.25.

TOTAL

I spent $59.39 on the above items, which means I beat my goal! If I were to count a few extra things I bought but will use elsewhere and not just for a small part of the cosplay (like the strapless bra or spray paint for the crown) I’d be over. But considering I’ll be using those for other things and they aren’t a main part of the cosplay, I’m not going to count it.

MY EXPERIENCE

It was great to know I got a cosplay together that was recognizable and also fairly cheap! I could’ve bought a cosplay online for around $100, but I managed to get one on my own for a lot cheaper! I had a ton of fun at Fan Expo with my boyfriend (who cosplayed as Mario), and I’m already making a plan for my next cosplay!

I’ve been so inactive on here for a long time whoops.

Also incoming post cuz I officially cosplayed for the first time (budget cosplay) and I’m wanted to share it with everyone!

Despite being a bladder-shattering 23.5 ounces, cans of AriZona iced tea have never wavered from the 99-cent price point introduced shortly after the drink debuted in 1992. It’s even printed on the label as a way of warding off sugar-water price gouging by retailers.
The fact that AriZona has been able to resist inflation for nearly a quarter-century is impressive. The fact that the cans usually wind up being cheaper than smaller soft drinks is also impressive, until you begin to realize how strange it is that a vat of iced tea and its accompanying ingredients somehow manages to be less expensive than plain water.
In a recent interview with Thrillist, AriZona chief marketing officer and co-owner Spencer Vultaggio shed some light on this convenience store mystery.
Unlike water titans Coke (which distributes Dasani), Evian, or Fiji, AriZona has virtually no advertising dollars invested in their teas. “We feel like it’s more important to spend money on something that our customer really cares about, instead of buying billboards or putting our cans in the hands of some celebrity for a few minutes,” Vultaggio said.
Even with a frugal approach to ads, AriZona still has to deal with rising production costs. To help resist increasing prices to compensate, the company has pursued alternative manufacturing methods, using 40 percent less aluminum in cans and having enough factories dotting the country to make transportation more efficient. Bottled water, in contrast, is sometimes sourced from abroad, making for exorbitant shipping costs.
In the end, it’s not the iced tea that’s more economical than the water; it’s that the container it comes in is simply cheaper to produce and transport. And while AriZona isn’t above charging a premium for fancier drinks—like a tea brewed with oak chips that sells for twice the price—their branding depends heavily on those familiar rows of 99-cent cans and the loyal consumers who keep reaching for them.

Interesting!

I’m glad to know there wasn’t something sinister involved, because I love this stuff and I drink it all the time.
