she hesitated at the threshold of the cabin door, unsure of being welcome in the home despite having been invited. ana knew about pepper’s pregnancy, tony asking for her to come out for the entire duration but it simply seemed awkward. to see her father so excited, ready yet, at the same time, nervous to welcome a child into the world. it just didn’t seem --- fair. after being repeatedly beckoned inside, ana accepted her fate, gazing down at mother and daughter, tony watching over her shoulder. “she’s cute. what did you pick for a name?”

if she was honest with herself, ana wanted to be part of musical theater. she could sing and dance but never found the courage to put herself out there. she was too afraid of failing.

blonde eyebrows furrowed in confusion, eyes narrowed at the captain. 

“barely. i never showed interest in learning and he had the same sentiment about teaching. we don’t exactly work on the same wavelengths.”

the father and daughter were quite opposite in fact. tony was more technologic while ana was more artistic. she merely watched while he worked, never bothering to take notice of how things worked. 

“i could give it a try though. couldn’t possibly make things worse.”

“i think two dresses is a good idea. it’s actually pretty common nowadays.” she’d imagine it be hard to dance or eat in your average wedding dress. some of the dresses she’d tried on for the wedding looked great but were exceedingly restricting. “you could also get one of those dresses that you can remove the bottom of. i think that’s typical in mermaid dresses. “

The small blonde pulled out her phone, fingers quickly tapping away at the screen. Every once in awhile, Ana would glance over at Pepper before looking back at her phone. 

“How about something like this?” As said, she wasn’t fully knowledgeable when it came to dress types, so finding what she pictured the older woman in took a moment. “I think it would flatter your figure and, if the skirt is too long, you could always have them alter it. Or, ya know, dad could wear the heels.”

she hoped her face was as blank and empty as she felt. everything that had occurred left the young stark broken inside. 

she had no hope left. 

“i’m not expecting a miracle. i know he’s not coming back. he was iron man. risking his life for others was what he did.” a weak shrug. “i’ve taken my time to grieve, as much as i can in a time like this.” not long after pepper and her had been found, ana waited till the older woman fell asleep before finding a place to release her emotions. 

the blonde could only imagine what steve was going through. he’d been there ---- but at least he knew who was gone. she was left with the pain of not knowing. 

“what could i possibly do? i wasn’t able to help before, so why now?”

“Sounds fine. I don’t have any plans.” the younger stark wasn’t the type to go out, nor did she have the friends to go out with. “Do you have any idea of what type dress you want? I’m not exactly an expert on wedding dress design or what’s in so, not sure how much help I’ll be.”
