Saw’s like the one series I’m careful not to spoil too much lol. Even though I went into the first one knowing the ending.
It’s like one of my top ten favorite horror franchises ‘cause of the godforsaken industrial aesthetic alone. The characterization and soundtrack are also fantastic.
The first five were the best imo and everything after that was kind of meh, though the Shotgun Carousel and Acid Room in VI were cool. Also, Mark in the Reverse Bear Trap.
Jigsaw and especially Spiral lacked the kind of vibe of previous installments, which I think works against them. Like, they’re still bleak but lack that claustrophobic feel. Jigsaw’s game (mostly) doesn’t take place in an urban environment, that’s all I’ll say. Well, that and it provides some backstory.
I was really not expecting Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson to be in Spiral. Super famous actors just kind of ruin the immersion. It’s definitely more of a spinoff than a sequel. A copycat instead of an apprentice, different pig mask, Pigsaw used a voice scrambler in the videos, the videos themselves use a pig puppet instead of Billy or even a Billy knockoff.
(Google tells me “Pigsaw” is already the name of some horror game, but I’m totally going to use it anyway.)
If I did a spinoff it’d be about Amanda pegging Mark. Which is why Twisted Pictures won’t ever hire me. 🧐
