Atticus stopped, and gave his head a little shake. "Wait, sorry, that was a really stupid question," he said. "Of course you're awake, what was I thinking?" Oh god, did the bite make him stupider? No, probably just more all-over-the-place than normal. "I, um... I'm not sleeping either," he said. His stomach flipped a bit at the thought of that. He should have appreciated being unconscious and buried in the sand more. "Hey, um, totally innocuous question, but I failed that supernatural course like twice, and I have some, uh, vampire questions? And you're smart in a non-dorky way, I think--" He clapped his hands together, steepling them and point at Avery before he began. "Uh, when bound, how human are you still? What's the same? Does everything really taste worse, like... say you really like sour candy, does it have the same feel to it?"

Avery chuckled a little, shaking his head as he set his book aside.  “It's OK, there's no such thing as a stupid question.  Everything's kind of a mess right now and everybody's kind of rattled right now.”  Avery scooted over to make a space for Atticus to sit down so they could talk without waking the others.  “Sure, go ahead,” Avery replied with a small laugh.  It felt strange being the one to answer vampire questions when he'd been the one asking questions not so long ago.  He couldn't help but laugh again at the questions.  “Well, I got turned by accident way back when and they rebound me after that weekend so I didn't get to spend much time unbound.  I did have a couple rentals where my Maker taught me about being a vampire.”  He leaned back on his arms as he thought about the questions the other fledgling had.  “Honestly, being bound helps a lot, especially in the early days.  Being unbound is rough when you're first getting a handle on your senses.  I wouldn't say that everything tastes worse, just more bland.  Except for blood.  Blood tastes amazing.  You really need the extremes of flavors to make them pop.  Take your sour candy example.  I love sour candy but the gummy part really doesn't have any flavor anymore.  So instead I just suck on them to get all the sour part off, and I don't suffer from that tingle you get when you eat too many.”

Winter couldn't have been more relieved when Avery shoved the stone away from her and lifted her up. She grit her teeth to cut off a whimper of pain that tried to escape as he lifted her. Gentle as he might be, she was too broken not to feel agony over every move of her body. However, she was also to old, too proud and too familiar with pain to be overwhelmed by it.

She was ready to be taken to the clinic for some much needed healing when her eyes spied another bystander who didn't notice the pipe falling from the sky in their direction.

"Wait!" she shouted to Avery and launched another shield just in time to prevent them from being skewered. Her eyes returned to the vampire who held her. "I can't leave, I..." it felt so silly for a woman like Winter to say she needed to help but it didn't feel any less true. She was powerful, capable, and it felt wrong for someone like her to be taken away when she could be assisting.

Avery winced as he lifted Winter, his current unbound state making his hearing good enough to hear her bones shift.  It wasn't a pleasant sound at all.  “Sorry.  I'm trying to be gentle.”  It was hard balancing trying to be gentle while still needing to get her to the clinic quickly.

At her yell, Avery skidded to a stop, turning slightly to shield Winter with his body in case debris came their way.  “We need to get you help,” Avery said as he turned back around in time to see the shield she had put up.  A growl rippled out of the fledgling, fear and anger mixing equally inside him.

“Damn it,” he shouted, a clear sign the usually polite vampire was feeling the strain.  Looking around for a clear place to set her down, Avery gently leaned Winter against a piece of rubble.  “You're not gonna make it out here without healing so,” Avery started, tearing one of his sleeves off and biting his own wrist.  “You're gonna need to drink some of my blood.  Thankfully I ate before everything went to shit.”

The lights were out now. They went out a little while ago, and Atticus was awake for it - the only clothes he had on were sweatpants and a sweatshirt, so it was noticeable pretty damn quick that he was in a sticky situation. Tonight felt like it couldn't get any worse. He was pretending to be asleep, not wanting to give away to too many people what was wrong with him. Of course it was proving to be difficult - supernatural beings were apparently pretty good at finding each other - but he still wanted to downplay it as much as possible, not bring his new change to light until he was really ready to come to terms with it. It was getting hotter, but the baggy clothing was serving as a mental shield to him, like a wearable security blanket. He'd sweat through the stress. He gave up on the pretending - insomnia would be the new lie - and the books were getting boring. Instead, he poked around, peering around the library to see who was still up. There was a face sort of obstructed by some books in the aisle next to him, and he looked through the stacks like a curious child. "Are you awake?" he asked. @slaveavery

Avery didn't sleep, not anymore really… not since his change.  He could fake it, and often did, especially when he got to spend the night with Izzy.  While he might not need sleep there was something nice about cuddling with her and just practicing the meditations that Jude had given him.  Tonight however, the call of books spoke to him and Avery filled his time with reading the many tomes that had as of yet eluded his understanding of architecture.  It took him a couple moments to realize that someone was talking to him before he lifted his head from his books and looked at his speaker.  "I am.  Sorry if it was disturbing you but I don't really sleep so this helps zone me out."

Too Close For Comfort | Open

Winter felt the magic change before she saw it. Something about the latest stream of fireworks was changing the air around her. She couldn't put her finger on what it was until the shimmering bubble which both protected and trapped the island inhabitants came into view. That couldn't be a good sign.

Perhaps it was curiosity or concern but either way Winter followed the whizz and crack of bright explosions to the administration building. For the first time since they'd started on the island, Winter tried to examine the odd and random show for arcane intent... and she certainly found some! Winter waved her hand and symbols began to float in the air before her, magical circles and sigils of light moving and layering as she tried to discover the spell's intent or who might be casting it. It took work, hard work, for her to glean anything from the complicated and powerful enchantment but something became clear to Winter.

This firework show was an attack on the protection spell of the island and it-

There was a popping sound, the only warning before the administration building exploded!

Winter was launched away from the building by the force, hitting the ground and rolling against the concrete before finally coming to a stop. She was absolutely injured, struggling to breathe. The wind had been knocked out of her and the extent of her other wounds remained to be seen. She'd been standing right on the buildings doorstep, there had to be bruising, internal bleeding, perhaps some broken ribs, busted organs as well as the road rash all in various places on her body. She would live but it certainly wasn't pleasant.

Winter struggled to sit herself up, her palms sore and bleeding as she pushed against the pavement. Then a shadow appeared over her. It grew larger and... dammit. Winter just managed to put up a shield to block the large chunk of wall that had nearly crushed her. Fragments of the building which had been launched into the air and was now making its way down to the earth around them. Even those who were further from the blast were not safe. Case and point, Winter only just managed to throw up another magical barrier over a person nearby before a stone nearly smashed them.

"Help, please" she asked them as she began crawling out from under her shield and the stone resting on it. Her magic flickered and the stone dropped an inch before she caught it again. Her magic was failing, her left leg refused to move as it should and if she didn't get out before the barrier failed again she'd be crushed none the less.

Avery was lost in his own little world as the fireworks went off in the background.  They'd been a near constant for long enough that he didn't even notice them anymore.  It wasn't until the popping sound went off that the fledgling vampire even looked up.

He immediately cramped up, doubling over as his hunger hit at the same as his senses opened up, overwhelming him briefly.  He had to reach out and put a hand on the ground to steady himself.  It was then that he heard the sound of something smashing into something else right beside him.

"What the….?!"  Avery exclaimed, seeing the rubble shed off a barrier that had been placed over him.  Looking around himself, his jaw dropped when he saw who had helped him.  "Mistress!"  He exclaimed, rushing over to her side.  "Hold on, I'll get you out."  Thankfully his vampire strength was sticking around so he could toss the piece of rubble away and free her leg.

"I've got you," he said, bending down to scoop the Mistress in his arms.  "We need to get you to the infirmary."

Winter was rather tongue tied by this attention, the gentle touch on her cheek only furthered her blush. “Th-thank you…” she sputtered as she tried to settle her reeling mind. “I’m… good. Umm, just studying today. H-how are you?” she offered and asked in a soft breathless voice. It felt like quite the contrast to her loudly pounding heart.
Avery smiled broadly as Winter seemed tongue tied, settling in comfortably into her side.  "I'm doing quite well," he commented, slipping his arm around Winter's waist.  "I was just finishing up my studying for the night.  What do you still have to study?  Maybe I can help you so you can get a restful night's sleep?"

Sexy even.  If being called pretty had caught her off guard, this one threw her for a loop.  The only time Isabel could remember being called sexy had been in the throes of a scene, in how she reacted to touches both soft and painful.  “Thank you,” she whispered.  Often she’d thought the same of her fellow slave, but trying to tell him that in the moment felt scary and awkward.  “I … I think you are too.  Sexy, I mean.  Not pretty.  Though you are kind of pretty.”  Was she rambling?  Absolutely.  But it wasn’t often that they exchanged compliments, and definitely never wearing such skimpy swimwear.
Warmth radiated from the vampire’s cool hands as they encircled her waist, skin left tingling in the touch’s wake.  She would have rathered die than admit to Avery why she had to purchase the bikini now.  The shifter’s cheeks had already been pink, but she was quite sure they were now a flaming red.  “I, um,” she began, as if she had an answer that wouldn’t reveal the slickness she could feel in her bottoms.  “Um.”  Her fingers continued to play with the ties of her bikini bottoms, the tension so thick it felt like she should be having trouble breathing.  When nothing immediately came to mind to answer him, she lifted up on tiptoes to kiss him.  The intent was to buy herself a second to finally figure out an easy answer; it wasn’t like they hadn’t had friendly kisses before.  But this felt completely different.

Avery smiled brightly at Izzy when she thanked him, a small laugh escaping him.  "You don't have to thank me for telling you the truth silly."  His cheeks heated as she called him both sexy and pretty, the compliments feeling different when they came from her.  He had always had difficulty accepting compliments but this time they had a completely different feel to them.

The vampire's eyes narrowed in concern as he watched his friend go from mildly embarrassed to full on red in the face.  That hadn't been his intention in the slightest bit and he was starting to become horrified with himself at how he had made her feel.  He had been about to say something to try to salvage the situation when she did the last thing he would have expected and kissed him.  Her lips on his had a hungry feel to them that short circuited the logical part of his brain and so he did the only thing that he could naturally think of… wrap his arms tightly around Izzy and pull her against him, returning her kiss with one just as lust-filled.

Ava gasped loudly, when Avery pushed himself into her. Her head fell back against the wall, and she tightened herself around him. “You feel amazing,” she whispered against his lips, kissing him back, then again, deeply. She shuddered against him, her calves tensing slightly, as she began to move her hips against him, pushing him deeper into her.

Avery groaned as he felt Ava tighten around him, his head falling onto her shoulder as he panted.  "So… so do you," he moaned as they kissed, willingly falling into the passion of the kiss.  Gripping her waist in his hands he started to thrust harder, pushing himself deeper into her with every thrust as he matched her movements.

“That’s all I ask,” Ava said softly. She smiled at him, loving the way his cheeks turned pink as he spoke. She returned the squeeze of her hand to his. She leaned forward just a bit. “I look very forward to get to knowing you, Mr. Avery,” she chuckled, grinning brightly at him.
image
The pink that dusted Avery’s cheeks turned a bright red as Avav referred to him as Mister.  It wasn't something he, or any other slave, heard often.  He did smile as he squeezed his hand in return, returning her smile.  “Well, I’m pretty much an open book.  What would you like to know about me?”

Ivy always loved hearing any sounds coming from partners of hers.  It turned her on, knowing that she was making someone feel so good they couldn’t hold it all back.  He took direction well and she let out a chuckle at his words - trying - but he succeeded, and a higher moan escaped her as she was grabbed and her fingers circled faster around her clit.  With him balancing her, Ivy’s free hand moved to the sides of his neck, gently squeezing.  “Yes, just like that–”

A grin graced Avery's face as he panted, glad the Mistress was pleased with his performance.  Logically he knew that nobody had ever told him he was bad,  but he was always nervous whenever he was with someone new.  As he found his rhythm, Avery bit his bottom lip, groaning out in pleasure.  "Oh god…"  Avery's eyes widened when her hand found his throat, gasping a little and thrusting harder into her as he nodded.

Genevieve quivered on the ground. She’d been beaten and bruised throughout the day. She knew that there would be another who was normally so kind harming her. She’d been forced to harm others. What she was forced to do to others hurt just as much as the marks on her skin. Feeling the sting of a whip on her back, she whimpered, crawling into herself, wishing to escape the pain. She couldn’t see or hear anything, but she felt it. “I’m sorry.” She wasn’t apologizing for being bad. She had done nothing wrong. Instead, she apologized for the person having to punish her. She didn’t know who they were,  but she doubted they wanted this either. She looked towards the figure behind her. “Do what you need to.”

Avery hated today.  He didn't hate things as a general rule, figuring that everything happened for a reason even if he didn't know what that reason was.  This however, being forced to punish innocent people, this he hated.  He was actually glad he couldn't remove the blindfolds and headphones because it meant his friends didn't have to see him being the one to punish them.  When the guard handed him a whip, Avery made sure to use it poorly, almost smacking the guard with it so he could pick his own stuff.  Hearing Genevieve apologize to him over what has happening hurt, the fledgling sniffing back tears as he picked up a paddle to spank her with, giving it a light swing across her ass.

It was if a dam broke the second Avery made his presence known.  She hadn’t felt numb so much as she was trying to process everything that had happened that day.  Deal with the guilt despite the fact that she’d had no choice.  It was the first time the shapeshifter had ever been compelled, the feeling as foreign as the idea of hurting people.  Isabel hated it, hated all of it.  As soon as she felt the vampire’s arms wrap around her she started to cry, letting out all of the emotions that she’d by some miracle been holding back.  “Why?” she cried softly, still struggling to understand.  “What did we do?  I didn’t do anything wrong, the people I .. I hurt today didn’t do anything wrong.”  She tried to take a steadying breath but it rattled as she tried not to outright sob.  “Why are we still here?  Was today not enough, what’s going to happen t-tomorrow?”
image
Avery's heart started to break as he heard Izzy start to cry and he bent his head down to rest it on top of hers.  He hated the thought of his girlfriend being sad or hurt, even with the idea of even having a girlfriend being foreign.  "I'm so sorry Izzy.  The Institute… they do this sometimes, the mass punishment thing.  Never like this though, slaves punishing other people."  He closed his eyes and sniffed as a tear started to roll down his cheeks.  "They didn't deserve what happened to them any more than we deserved to have to do that to them."  The fledgling placed a chaste kiss on the top of Izzy's head before snuggling her more tightly into his arms.  "I don't know what's gonna happen for sute but I can make a guess.  It'll probably be more of the same but it'll be us getting punished and the others doing the punishing.  It's what makes sense, at least to me."

tormented | avery & isabel

Before today, the worst day of Isabel’s life had been the day she lost Carmen.  But today had shaped up to be a very close second, being forced to hurt and injure and abuse, all while screaming apologies in her head as she sobbed.  She’d never been compelled, had no idea what it was like to have no control over her body and actions.  Wipe at her eyes all she could, the tears refused to stop even as blood flew and speckled her porcelain skin.  She had no idea what to do once they were escorted back to the ballroom.  It felt like she was in shock again, sliding down a wall and holding her shins as the tears continued.  Would she drown again?  Be forced to eat and shower?  In the moment, it certainly felt like it.

@slaveavery

Avery did not appreciate what he had been forced to do today.  It was not in his nature to hurt people, even though it was in the nature of many people of his species.  It left him feeling numb honestly, and he kept staring down at his hands like they were going to just start randomly hurting people even in the ballroom he had to sleep in.  Dragging his feet as he shuffled into the room, the fledgling looked around briefly until his eyes fell on a familiar form curled up in a ball against a wall.  It took him no time at all to walk up to her and slump down on the floor beside her.  Reaching out, Avery wrapped his arms around Izzy and pulled her toward him, enveloping her in his arms.  "It'll be ok.  Your emotional support vampire is here."

The shapeshifter flushed lightly at the returned kiss to her cheek, but relief was the most predominant feeling when Avery reassured her they had nothing planned today.  For a moment she’d been worried they made plans and she’d completely forgotten about them.  “I bet they still need help with decorations and stuff though!”  In truth, she was excited to help out.  Even though they’d had staff to decorate the estate back home, she’d always enjoyed putting up the Christmas decorations.  But all thought flew out of her head as the vampire asked what he’d come to ask.
“A … a date?  Like as friends or um.  Or.”  Isabel couldn’t get the words out of her mouth.  Ever since they’d met, her stomach swooped in his presence but she never took the time to identify just what that feeling was.  She knew what she was hoping to hear from him, but if she said the words and he said ‘only as friends.’  It would make things a lot more clear between them, but it would be devastating at the same time.
image
Avery couldn't help but giggle a little at how flushed Izzy's cheeks got, a warm dusting coating his own.  Of course, that didn't stop him from bending down and kissing her other cheek.  He couldn't help but enjoy how she reacted to him when he showed her affection.  "If they need more help I'd be glad to help.  I'm just not sure how much I can do that someone else can't do better.  I'm not much for the artistic side of things.  I can follow blueprints as well as anyone but making magic out of paper mâché isn't my forte."

Avery bit his lip a little, his skin flushing slightly as he considered her question.  "I had hoped… I mean… if you want it to be just as friends that's ok… but I was hoping that you'd be OK with more than friends… like as my girlfriend."  The blush on Avery's cheeks deepened as he spoke, not realizing just how compromised his request made him feel.

Dynamic Switch | Avery & Winter

Winter kept her eyes low as she walked with three new library books in her arms. Her thoughts were on her homework, the chapters she was most eager to read in her new tomes and the swiftness with which she was hoping to get home. It wasn’t until she was a good distance away from the school that she realized she’d left her notebook back at the library. With a gasp she spun quickly on her heels to head the other direction, not knowing someone had been walking behind her and now her turn and halt had landed her square in their path.
She slammed into them and prepared for the ground, only she didn’t find it. Instead Winter opened her eyes to see a familiar face keeping her upright.
She was speechless, memories of Avery and their past encounters played in her mind and Winter blushed at the salacious relations she’d had with this man. The seemed impossibly brazen to her now.
@slaveavery

A smirk lingered on Avery's face as he walked through the campus.  This wasn't a version of Avery that had ever really existed.  It was like all of the abuse he'd experienced from his mother had not happened to him.  Standing tall as he strode across the quad, the vampire waved to a couple people he knew when someone slammed into him, his reflexes reacting to help stop them from falling to the ground.

Looking down to see who had run into him, Avery's smile grew wider as he realized who it was.  A chuckle fell from his lips as he watched Winter blush, reaching out to cup her cheek.  "Well aren't you lovely tonight Winter.  How are you?"
