re: TEOU and Beyond the Veil

So I guess it’s my turn.

As Ashley and King have said, the TEOU Zines and Beyond the Veil / Occult Zine projects are closed as of today, December 16, 2018. We are instructing all customers to formally request refunds from GG, and if you get no response, to file a chargeback. (Ashley’s post explains in more detail how to do this, as well as lays out a timeline of events leading to this decision.)

To say I’m upset is an understatement. I was a contributor and mod of TEOU: Sheith, I was a contributor to both the main and companion zines of BtV, and I purchased all of the TEOU zines besides Sheith. My trust has been broken from three different directions. I spent months working on my pieces for these zines, and I was proud of what we were creating. It breaks my heart to be unable to deliver the finished product–especially when there might still have been a chance, had we received the information and access we requested. Lacking that, we are forced to end the zines.

I never expected things to turn out like this, or I would never have signed on to these projects. To customers, I’m sorry that you have to deal with the added stress of pushing for refunds. To my fellow mods, I’m sorry that you are being put in the position of trying to wrap all this up. And to contributors, I’m sorry that you put so much love, time, and energy into projects that ultimately fell apart. I am especially sorry to first-time contributors, because this should never have been your first experience with a zine.

I don’t know what else to say. It’s killing me to have to write this post. I was hoping beyond hope that we’d get a response that would allow us to continue, but… that didn’t happen. So this is where we are now, and all I can do is offer any assistance or encouragement that I’m able to provide. Please reach out to me if there’s anything I can do for you.

Graphics Update

So about those “leaks”…

As some of you guys have seen from my “Syeun signing my Sheith ita bag” post.. I had the amazing opportunity to meet him at Walker Stalker Con.

He was super friendly and chill and loved getting the chance to nerd out about the show. But in that moment with him, I also had the chance to talk to him about the “leaks” that had been around for only about a week at that point in time. I posted about it on Discord only a couple of minutes after talking with him, so I’ll be letting the screenshots of that day do the rest of the talking under the cut.

An important update

As you might have heard, @/astraldefender (GG) is no longer part of the mod team. This decision had been made on multiple statements by contributors from other zines she organized, talking about delays in announcement and ghosting on mods and their questions regarding pre-orders.

Last Sunday, 12.02.2018, Mod @iokayia (Io) was contacted by a contributor at 9:01 AM EST who sent them a screenshot of a tweet by rosinantes who turned out to be a contributor of a zine GG modded (https://twitter.com/rosinantes/status/1069152135789588480). It stated the following:

Io immediately sent this to the mod chat, as well as changed the Google Drive, Instagram and Twitter password and the recovery phone number of the Google Account. Furthermore, they also messaged the OP of the tweet and asked for more information. Due to time zone differences, they didn’t get a reply by said mod, so they dmed the other mods on twitter and discord. Mod @belovedsheith (Mei) got to read the screenshots 25 minutes later. The contributor had been added to a discord group with the mods of the Boko No Hero Academica Zine ‘Trick and Treat’ and Io and Mei were added shortly after. The mods shared screenshots and Io and Mei got to know that there were multiple instances where communication broke down between the mod and other people in several zines. They were linked to a post (http://lavenderarts.tumblr.com/post/180813718919/lets-get-a-little-personal) by GG on the BNHA zine which stated she miscalculated the zine funds and caused them to be -331$. 

That can’t be allowed to happen when it comes to large amounts of time, energy, and money being in play. Because of that, no matter what other information comes out over the next few days, the mods decided to manage the zine themselves, without her involvement. Io and Mei made two announcements on the server sharing the information with the contributors. Shortly after that, the decision was made to move the server and urged the contributors to delete wips so GG won’t have access to them anymore. Mod @novamode (Cami) also joined and helped to migrate members to the new server. At 12:30 PM EST the new server was created and the contributors joined. All contributors have been very understanding and many offered help so the mod team decided to take the offer from @lookforanewangle (Lyss) and made her the Graphics Mod. Due to her work on ‘Hanakotoba’ and ‘Still Beating: A Genji Zine’ she had the opportunity to collect a vast amount of experience. The mods also readjusted mod duties, making Cami the mod for shipping and payment, Mei the mod for forms and check-ins as well as Io the social media mod. The current mods all have access to the necessary accounts and information. The mods decided to push back the first check-in by two days, making it 12.10.2018. Lyss will also work on new graphics for the zine and the contributor post will be uploaded again to separate ourselves from GG. The asks she answered had been deleted as well and Io is currently working on an FAQ collecting those asks and answer them anew. We’re extremely overwhelmed by the kindness and support of the contributors. Thank you so much, every one of you. Without your understanding, who knows where the zine would be now. We would also like to thank every follower who stuck with us until now and we hope this announcement offered enough insight to answer every question you might have.
