A quick google search would show you that you’re incorrect and that capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment… I don’t really see the point in trying to argue about something you evidently have no clue about.
Capital cases cost more than regular cases as the defendant is allowed two attorneys as opposed to one. The defendant is also entitled to representation by experts, which could include psychologists, investigators, forensic experts and so on. A death penalty trial also takes much much longer than a regular trial and then the appeal process costs an abundance of money to ensure that innocent people are not executed, even thought we do know that innocent people have certainly been sentenced to death.
The average cost of defending in a federal death case is around 8 times more expensive than in which the death penalty is not sought. Texas, for example, is spending $2.3 million PER death row case. California, for example, would save $1 billion every five years if they abolished the death penalty and Californian tax payers pay $90,000 more each year on death row inmates than they do with regular inmates. There’s over 700 Death Row inmates in California. So much money is being wasted on death sentences that will never be carried out.
The reason executions aren’t carried out “quickly” is to ensure innocent people aren’t executed…
