Hi there! If you found this page I would like to assume that you like me, like to read and discuss books. Unfortunately, although I have been chatting away on this blog for 10 years I currently neglect it more that I should. However I do like to jump on every now and again if there’s a great book I feel I have to share. If you’d like to chat books at any time feel free to drop me a message. Maybe we have something in common? Maybe we can recommend a new book to one another ? Either way I’m always happy to chat books!

Book Review

Nevernight - Jay Krisoff

“When all is bood, blood is all.”

Ok ok, I’ll admit it! I’ve gone slightly off YA and fantasy books as of late. I’ve been finding it a bit tough to invest in characters I feel I have read before in very stereotypical situations. However, having read this book, I believe my problem has not been the genre, but rather that I have been reading too many bad books (Looking at you Serpent and Dove). This book has been a bit of a revelation. It allowed me to suspend my disbelief and truely invest in the characters, world, and plot; and I am back in love with Fantasy!

I wouldn’t say I feel immediately in love with this book. I decided not to read the blurb and just dive straight in. So the opening chapter, that of a 16 year old loosing her virginity, really did through me off. It made me suspect the book was something akin to Game of Thones (which I don’t hate, but I like the sex scenes I’m reading to not concern children... call me a prude for that if you wish). However, once I’d mentally aged up the main character in my head, I sunk right into this book; and think I may have initially been a little harsh.

The best element of this book for me was undoubtably the characters. The characters in this book were *chef’s kiss*. I really enjoyed the banter and you could really see even the minor characters developing continually. I could probably follow 7 books with the ensemble of characters features in this tale; however I am thrilled that there are still two books in this series for me to read. I genuinely cannot wait to see where this road goes!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just had to share this one with you guys!

“The human brain is wired to cope with grief. It knows even as we fall into unfathomably dark places, there will be light again, and if we just keep moving forward in one brave straight line, however slowly, we’ll find our way back again.”

I feel like that quote might just sum up the book in one snippet. This is a book which is on times peacefully melancholy due to it’s themes of loss and acceptance of times past; however it is also a book about optimism and how to heal yourself in dark times. It might not be the most accurate tale of grief but I sure enjoyed the lens of hope it used addressed the issue.

It wasn’t what I was expecting (I thought it was in for an easy cheesy romance), but I think it was all the better for it. It is more a book about self reliance/resilience than it is romance... Even the parallel universe aspect of the story worked really well as it was used sparingly.

Do you have a favorite bookmark?

I found this one abandoned in an old library book one day at work and couldn’t bring myself to throw it out! I don’t use it much as an actual bookmark because it’s fairly thick but it’s so pretty!

My fave bookmarks rarely get used as bookmarks 😂

“Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?“

“Yes.”

“You called her a liar?”

“Yes.”

“You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?”

“Yes.”

“Have a biscuit, Potter.”

~ Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

I’m currently listening to Order of the Phoenix on audiobook, with Stephen Fry narrating and I’m absolutely loving it! Have you listened to any good audio books lately? 🤓⚡️📚🎧

yeah libraries are cool but have you ever found a library with a secret doorway disguised as a bookshelf that leads to a smaller, hidden library filled with ancient books full of mysteries and forgotten knowledge? me neither and i'm sad about it
