((Hi guys! Sorry for the interruption of your usual askblogging, but for many reasons (including personal) I feel the need to address this ‘Genderswap/Sexswap is transphobic’ issue.
I myself am a transgender man. And I’ve seen this issue pop-up again and again, people harassing artists for doing this. Which is first of all, not how you solve a problem and second of all really silly.
Genderswap, like stated above, is only a physical change, it has nothing to do with the actual gender of the person, unless it’s an au, in which case it’s still not a valid argument to say it’s transphobic. There’s a reason why it’s called ‘Alternate Universe’. Things are different, and people’s genders can be different.
Also, it can also be a good thing for transgender people! In fact, I’ve seen a lot of people use this method to explain what being transgender feels like! I myself explained it to my grandmother by using this method. Telling someone that being transgender is like if they woke up one day as the opposite sex and everyone would treat them like they were that gender no matter what they said is an excellent way to make people understand what it feels like.
Like @askwardenmagellan said, these are fictional characters in fictional universes. Shit like this has always been used in fan-fiction and no one had a problem with it before.
Of course, it’s always good to discuss things in a civil manner, but usually this stuff escalates to harassing really fast, and at that point you’ve lost all your credibility on this matter. Harassment isn’t going to make anyone listen to your point.
And once again, like said above, if this truly makes you uncomfortable for some reason, the block and blacklist functions are there for a reason. USE THEM!
Though if you have actual good arguments against this, or suggestions on how this could be improved upon or even questions about the matter, send me an ask on my personal @halfdeadartist and I’ll try to help. All will be tagged under #genderswap argument)))
