incorrect test answers (pt 1)

DOCTOR WHO | “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe”

"It's just not cool. Why couldn't they develop a fashionable technology?" He was grumbling, fiddling with the device in his hands, wondering what she was going on about. Undetectable frequencies- Ha! If anyone could detect an undetectable frequency, it was going to be him. .... It was concerning though that River looked a tad worried, and that if he was being completely honest, which he never was, he couldn't detect anything either. He didn't like that, not one bit. "River- don't worry. We'll go sort out your frequencies and then be back in time for tea. I am curious though- If everything forgets- who remembered to tell everyone that they were forgetting things in the first place? Who told you to come here?"

And now he was doing the concerned thing. Dammit. She really didn’t need him focusing on this. On her.

She swallowed, eyes widening as he leaned in, the light blush that dusted her cheeks only deepening with the proximity. Fuck, fuck, fuck. “No! I’m fine!” It might’ve been more convincing if it wasn’t about an octave higher than she usually sounded. More so if it hadn’t been paired with her all but running away, walking swiftly around to the other side of the console, so she could breathe.

“Just…a little warm.” Thankfully, she sounded a bit more normal, that time. “I spaced. No biggie.” They were lame excuses, and he was smart—god, he was so fucking smart—but Max hoped this would be one of the times he remained completely fucking oblivious.

If there was a god out there, please, she was begging them, just let her have this.

“You wanted help with a thing?” Yes, good, a subject change. Distract and deflect, the two best tools in her arsenal.

He could have sworn that she was blushing- that her eyes were dilating and that she was- nervous? This looked familiar somehow... This look. He had spent his fair share of time around women and men and- other non humanoids- and he'd seen this before. For some unknown reason, he got this look when they wanted to do things with him. Like kissing and touching and- Oh blimey. Surely Max wouldn't want him to- to sonic her. Ok. Right. This was fine. She was fine. And sort of adorable. And fun. And nice- And how long had he just been standing there silent? "Ah well- I was going to see if you could hold onto a thing down below. The console! Down below the console, not down below anywhere else- Standard Tardis maintenance."

"Should I put on the air? We could go to uhm- an ice planet. Yes. Planet of ice! That would cool you right off wouldn't it?"

The answer to her unspoken question still remained up in the air. Sometimes it seemed practically impossible for her to have an 'ordinary' day - but on the other hand, someone tracing her phone (because he must have done, right?) and then showing up in something that just appeared out of nowhere ...

Sadly enough, for Thera it wasn't really all that weird.

"Nuh-uh-uh," She corrected, wagging a pointer finger in the air, "I asked first. And you're the one who's shown up uninvited."

To first appearances he looked ...human. Accompanied by a practically gamin air, with a bit of showman thrown in - and the feeling that he expected her to be terribly impressed. And yeah, OK, it was kinda slick, but that wasn't the point.

She glanced past him, brow creasing all the more as she got a proper look at the box - only to be distracted before a question could form.

"Oh hell no." A cuppa? Was he kidding? "I've had one blind date today, pal, I don't fancy another. And as for when ..." Because that's what he'd said, she was sure, and it wasn't any stranger than the rest, "2023. Quite a while since I last saw a police box in the wild."

"Oi! Who said anything about a date? I don't date." Yes he did. But that thought alone had him standing straighter and giving his bowtie a tweak, trying to make himself look- well like someone who was totally not here for a date. This was very unserious business. "How can you be so against a friendly invitation for tea? What did the tea ever do to you? Oh. Oh is it because of- well you know- Twitter. Bad year for Twitter eh? To much tea being spilt and all that- And yes! There used to be whole flocks of these boxes in the wild, just roaming. Just- gracefully roaming along the streets. It's a- Its a beauty." With one awkward chuckle he was giving the Tardis a light pat, trying to hide the fact that he was making himself cringe- Ok, get it together Doctor. "I'm John. John Smith."

Was she human - ? Oh boy, this was getting weirder by the minute, and she paused for one of those minutes to make sure she hadn't in fact dialed someone she knew who was having a laugh at her expense.

[sms]: That depends who you ask.

Again, Thera didn't see the following two messages until she'd sent that one, and aside from the confusion ... well, 'incoming' was not a word she took lightly. Though how could this person even find her ... ?

As she looked quickly around, just in case, there was a harsh, grinding sound that at first she put down to construction machinery on the street. But then ... oh gods-dammit, couldn't she just have one normal day out?

Part of her wanted to just turn the key and get out of there, but if she did this mystery would bother her for the rest of her days. So instead she opened the door and climbed out, braced and ready to dodge.

"Alright. So who the hell are you?"

Hm. It was just a lady after all. But just a lady could always be so much more. What sort of woman was this? He was trying to not be so obvious as he sniffed the air, hoping to see if he could pick up on any scent that might give her away. People didn't just contact him. Not without a reason. It couldn't have just been a coincidence. "Who indeed. I think the real question is, who are you?" The Doctor leaned against the Tardis door, looking at her with a bit of a grin- this was fascinating and a mystery and how could he resist trying to solve it? "Well in any case since you're done with your very bad date- Maybe you could join me for a cuppa? Anywhere good around here? When are we anyway?"
