No Frigate Like a Book

Hello My Dears!

dreamer | reader | word weaver

Call me Rose! My gender is a *insert weird noise here* but I’m fine with she/her/they. Really just be polite and it’s all good. Can Poet be a gender? Hmmm must think on this. This blogger is 30 because the passage of time is a trap no one can escape from. Except vampires but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who wants to drink blood?

I’m an avid bookwyrm with a massive hoard of a TBR Pile and an even larger library of books I’ve loved. Discovering fanfiction only increased my consumption of words and my fic bookmarks are a vast labyrinth to get lost in.

This blog is a mix of books and miscellaneous fandoms run 90% by queue to give some verisimilitude of functionality/organization to my chaos. I do tag. Mostly basic tags with a rare creative tag from the early days but my tagging system is pretty self-explanatory.

Feel free to ask questions please! I love to talk books!!!

And under the cut is a list of authors & fandoms that show up on my blog, well a smattering of them anyway!

231003 ♡ tuesday. fall is hitting hard! i took a walk in the rain today to clear my mind (it didn't work) and finished a reflection journal for my international studies course (went a page over the limit but the prof is chill about that). i've been reading The Jane Austen Treasury and yearning to read Mansfield Park since it and Persuasion are the only novels by her i have not yet read.

“A certain feeling comes from throwing your good life away, and it is one part rapture. Or so it seemed for now, to a woman with flame-colored hair who marched uphill to meet her demise. Innocence was no part of this. She knew her own recklessness and marveled, really, at how one hard little flint of thrill could outweigh the pillowy, suffocating aftermath of a long disgrace.”

“I was obsessed with the sound of that rhyme: heart and caught. I know this is a minority opinion among theatrical lyricists, but I want to offer a quick public defense of the slant rhyme. Never before I entered the world of theater did I find people so dogmatic about true or “perfect” end rhymes. What puzzles me about it is this: the sound of words, the weaving together of them, is about so much more than end rhyme. It’s consonance, assonance, internal rhymes wherever they can be discreetly woven in. I appreciate these devices because they don’t call attention to themselves; the seams don’t show. The perfect end rhyme waves its arms and shouts, “Look, Ma, I made a rhyme!” There’s a place for that kind of satisfying resolution, just as there’s a place for a “button” in music. But there’s also a place for the mystical, the modal, and the unresolved. The rhyming of heart and caught hit me at an angle that no true rhyme ever will.”

Paper Lady Amalthea from The Last Unicorn! The previous time I made her, I used one of my favorite papers on her hair, and was veeery tempted to use it again this time. But ultimately, I went with this paper - the cresting white waves seemed very fitting to evoke the sea into which the unicorns were driven, and from which they emerge.

💖✨️💖A Very Romantic Book Haul!!!💖✨️💖

I went a little wild when I spotted all the lovely KJ Charles books at The Ripped Bodice! I read the Will Darling Adventures last year with much enjoyment and absolutely needed them in hardcopy. I'm actually reading Proper English on the kindle currently so I popped it and it's sequel into my bag too. 🤣 At that point the Erica Ridley was just gross indulgence. My one non-romance purchase was from the Village Well and after seeing so many recommendations I decided to make my wallet cry some more.

The best part about Think of England for me has always been the dynamic between Archie and Pat, and Daniel and Fen.

KJ Charles writes female side characters like no one else, and I always get excited every time they come up in the book or they interact with the main characters.

when they’re center stage in their own book however…well…

My boyfriend and I saw you across the room and we just wanted to say that your vibes are foul and we will be fucking your shit up. -

Archie Curtis and Daniel da Silva from “Think of England”.

Think of england remains my favourite KJC book. The characters have stayed with me for 6 years now and aren’t budging from the space theyve reserved in my brain. Anyway heres to the toe girlies if you guys are even still around.
