When I made Isa, I was at the lowest point of my adult life. I spent most of my days waiting for it to be late enough that I could justifiably sleep. People who knew me back then know that I was constantly miserable and a complete mess. It’s hard to miss the fact that I put Isa through hell, and that they broke into a thousand pieces very early on in this blog’s history. At the time, it was how I coped with my own misery.

Thing is, I’m not miserable anymore. Playing this Isa doesn’t make my life seem manageable anymore--it just reminds me how miserable I used to be. But I still love Isa in every variation I’ve written them. I love the slavery AU I’ve built with @x-purpose, I love the canon AU I’ve dragged so many people into, I love the evo verse I share with @retribuxion and the modern verse I play in with @fervordreams. So I’m archiving Isa, revamping things so that their headspace is something fun for me again. The new blog is in progress; you can find it here. (The URL is based on the Old Norse for moonlight.)

Okay, Ienzo had to laugh–even if it was just a small chuckle. So far, this situation went better much better than expected.

“Would you look at that?” they replied, continuing to smile, “To be honest, I am relieved to meet someone else like me.”

They grinned at the other person, finally relaxing enough to dump their backpack beside their bed.

“My best friend back home found this forum for trans* people,” they said. “I went on there all the time, but I never had someone like me who I could see face-to-face.”

Even gave Saïx an odd look. “There’s nothing to fight about. You’re not to do anything that will rip out your stitches,” he scoffed. “He’s utilizing his resources poorly, and needs to be reminded that my medical supplies are limited by how much he pays me.” With a roll of his eyes, Even turned back to sterilize his tools.

He nodded, shrinking unconsciously. His owner was a fair man, as owners went--he never punished Saix when the slave had done nothing wrong. But he had always believed Saix a bad slave, and his missteps were always punished as though they were intentional, even when they weren’t. “Y-yes, sir,” he muttered, looking down. There was no use arguing anyway.

Even quieter than Dilan had been, they noted. And even less amused by them than he’d been as a Somebody.
“I don’t use a weapon,” they said immediately. They used to fence, but–“I couldn’t get a weapon that would hurt Heartless. I use magic instead.”

An eyebrow rose. Magic wasn’t odd, everyone in the Organization could wield magic, but not having a weapon? How… interesting.

“Very well, but that still doesn’t answer my second question. Do you know how to fight?” Xaldin crossed his arms with a with a slight scowl, brow seeming to quirking a little higher in mild irritation.

They hated being here, they already knew that. His irritation with them wasn't helping. They weren't a Nobody, they weren't part of this Organization. Why did it matter? They were bait, that was it.

"I can fight," they said shortly. They resisted the urge to shove their hands, newly healed, into their pockets like a sullen teenager. Even if they were one.

“I’d thrown you and your fire-engine-red haired friend out of the castle enough times to remember you.” The Lancer’s heart was gone but the memories of his previous life were still there and clear as day.
“You’re Isa. Correct?”

Their mouth twitched into the first real smile they’d worn since they’d gotten here. But they swallowed it quickly. “That was all Lea’s idea,” they said. Though it had gotten to the point that even when they babysat Ienzo, they took the child to their house.

“Yeah,” they said in answer. “And now you’re Xaldin.”

He didn’t didn’t answer with words, only nodding silently. With formalities over, it was time to get to work.

“Are you able to summon a weapon?… Or, more important than that, do you know how hold to fight?”

The stiffness shot through Xemnas’ body before it was quickly shaken off.  His own ability to keep shrugging off Isa’s spells was wearing thin.  Stopping them altogether would be the safest option.
Silence.”
But that was only half the job.  Fingers were easy to break.
They’d hoped to do more than slow him down, but they were starting to realize how hopelessly outmatched they were. He was all but immune to their spells, and they had no weapon, not anymore.
Their mouth opened in a scream they couldn’t voice as their fingers snapped one by one. Their breathing was ragged from pain and fear. They tried to summon Cura again, but what little magic came to their call made their head scream. A drop of blood fell from their nose to the ground.

“A few words could have avoided all this.  And even those would not have been necessary if you had only remained civil, as you yourself promised.  Now, submit.  You still have one hand you can use.”

They wouldn't. They wouldn't submit. Civil--what would that get them? He wasn't going to let them go, and that was the only thing he could give them that they wanted. Their remaining hand curled into a fist.

“The Heartless wouldn’t have come if you hadn’t started fucking with them,” they retorted. It was hard to think straight with their arm hurting so much, with their brain fogged from the poison. On that thought, they called on the magic that had recharged and sent Cura through their veins to heal what it could.
“You can blame your king for that.  It is his actions which have caused all this.”
His actions in disrupting the heart of a young apprentice, and his inaction and scorn as the man had helplessly descended into madness.
“I know who to blame,” they snapped. Another push of magic, and their arm snapped back into place. “Paralysis.”

“Very well.  We will try a different kind of pain.”
With that Isa’s arm was harshly yanked backwards, against the natural bend of the joints, until there was a sickening tear.
They screamed, gasping for air, trying instinctively to pull their arm out of his grasp.
“You took my sister,” they growled. “You took her, she’s gone. So you can take your civility, and your apology, and your fucking manners and shove it up your ass.”

“The Heartless took your sister,”  Xemnas responded calmly.  “Your desire for vengeance should be directed at them.  We share a common enemy.”

Xemnas knew how to judge exactly when to remove the poison.  He - Xehanort - had done this before.  Testing the limits of the body in order to test the limits of the heart.  Some caved quickly.  Many did not; it took days, weeks, even months of wearing away at their endurance before the heart was exposed and vulnerable.
Pain, in and of itself, was clearly not one of Isa’s weaker points.  But there would be weak points.  He just had to find them.  The sooner he did, the sooner he would not have to rely on such crude tactics.  But right from the beginning, Isa had to be made aware that he was not safe from harm if he chose to be uncooperative.
The spell was dismissed as Isa slipped out of consciousness.  It was followed by the slightest amount of healing, only enough to jolt Isa back into wakefulness.
“Obey, or there will be more.”
He’d told them what he’d do if they ignored him. He’d told them he’d heal them and do it again. They didn’t doubt him, exactly. They just didn’t care. If he wanted them dead, they would have died already.
They snarled wordlessly, weak though they were. “Go to hell,” they spat when they were aware enough to breathe again. “Go to hell and fucking stay there, you bastard.

Xemnas grunted at the impact of the spell.  Stubborn… but resilient.  That could prove useful.  To be able to cast through this suggested he was used to this kind of pain.  His keyblade bearer had not been able to protect him well enough… unfortunate.  That spoke badly to Lea’s skill.
With the poison eating away at him, Xemnas would soon see how resilient he truly was.
The spell caught both of them–they were too close together for it not to. They bit down on their lip until it bled to keep from screaming, but the pain on top of the poison was about all they could take.
Still. They weren’t going to apologize, not even as their vision blurred around the edges. They’d meant it.

They were exhausting themself. They couldn’t cast for a long fight, and Xemnas was ignoring the only spells they could cast.
Ignore this, they thought viciously. They could cast one more, even if they got caught in it. Thunder.

“Ahh,” he says. He’s starting to get what Isa wanted to talk about, what this was leading to. He absently plays with their hair while he thinks, nodding his head after a moment. “Alright,” he agrees easily, with a smile. “That’s fine with me, Isa. I’m up for whatever you’re comfortable with.” He’d be willing to go with anything, no matter how far or how…not far? it went. So long as he was with Isa, you know? “So…things?” He asks teasingly, raising an eyebrow and prompting him to go on.

Somehow, they’re not thinking of how the Superior used to pet their hair. When Lea does it, all they can think of is Lea. They spent so long missing him, they’re not wasting a second of their time together thinking about him.

“Things,” they agreed, nuzzling the crook of his neck. “Like--” Okay, even now this was a little embarrassing to talk about, but it was Lea. “Like you seeing me naked--kissing me places that aren’t my lips. My stomach and chest and hips and...” Okay, they were blushing now. “Like that. And I want to do it to you.”
