This picture has been circulating all over social media and I have more to add:

  • Delete all period cycle tracking apps off your phone today.
  • Do not tell anyone why you want to take your trip, especially over text/apps.
  • Do not tell anyone the real state/destination of your trip.
  • Have everyone on your trip turn off their phones. Use written directions or a burner phone. Do not use burner phone to open any personal apps. Dispose of after trip.
  • Only use cash while purchasing ANYTHING on your trip.
  • Take “vacation” photos to post later. Be cautious of geo-tags/only post screenshots of the original photos.

Some people might say this is being extra or overly precautious, but this really is the reality we are facing. People have been imprisoned with murder charges in certain states- some for literal miscarriages. If you are a person that ends up in this situation, the state can and will use your data against you as evidence in court. Do not leave a paper trail. If they want to treat us like criminals, we’re gonna move like criminals.

[ID: a cropped photo with black text, speaking in regards to the reproduction rights being outruled. It reads: "If you are a person who suddenly finds yourself with a need to go camping in another state, a state friendly towards camping, just know I will happily drive you, support you, and not talk about the camping trip to anyone ever. If you know, you know." END ID]

Getting Out The Door

If you’re like me and have ADHD (or struggle with any of this) then getting out the door in the morning is a pain and a half. No matter how well you know what you need to do to get places on time, it’s hard. Things get forgotten, things just don’t feel important enough to do, time isn’t real. I get it, so here’s a list of things I’ve learned that keep me getting out the door at least somewhat on time and with the things I need.

  • Have a single (small) bag for your essentials. You do not leave the house without this bag. Ever.
  • I recommend a crossbody bag that’s about the size of your hand spread out. The right size to hold the basic things you need without weighing you down. My dad uses a vest with a million pockets instead of a bag, which is also an option.
  • Things that go in this bag:
  • Debit/credit cards and cash. Always have some cash on you for emergencies if you can. Checkbook if you have one.
  • Driver’s license, health card card, student/work ID if you need that, etc.
  • Medication for the day (I like to pull out a week of my meds on Sundays)
  • Extra charging cable + battery pack for phone/headphones
  • Keys!! Car keys/house keys go in one pocket. That is the key pocket. The keys always go back in the key pocket. Attach a small charm that’s physically distinctive to each key so you can grab the right one without looking.
  • Multi-tool/knife if you carry one.
  • If you are sexually activity, I recommend having a pocket with a few condoms/dental dams/lube/etc. Make sure that they won’t get rubbed around. Putting them in a plastic bag for extra protection is a good idea.
  • Anything else you need every day regardless of where you’re going; lotion/hand sanitizer/protein bar/etc.
  • Everything goes in the bag. If you take something out of the bag, it goes right back in the bag the moment you are done using it.
  • If you are at home the bag goes by the door. You shouldn’t be able to exit your home without seeing the bag. If you can literally hang it on doorknob, I recommend that.
  • If you are outside of your home, your bag does not leave your body. It is a part of you now.
  • This is why I recommend having a bag vs a clutch you hold or keeping your cards in your phone. Phones are sometimes put places or handed to people. The Bag is Not. The bag lives on your body. That’s also why I recommend keeping it small/crossbody style, to reduce the temptation to remove it.
  • If you’re in school, you may have a backpack in addition to your bag. Same rules apply. Everything you need goes in the backpack, and if you aren’t using it, then it goes right back in the backpack. Finished your homework? It goes in the backpack. Done with your calculator for the evening? In the backpack. There are no other surfaces, only backpack and bag. Same thing for if you use a backpack/messenger bag for work.
  • I recommend keeping your essential’s bag separate from your backpack/messenger bag. You will want to leave the house for things other than work/school at some point, and will not want to lug around your big bag. That’s what the small bag is for.
  • Do things the night before.
  • I dunno about anyone else, but things are a million times easier to do late at night than at like 6 am when I’m struggling to walk in a straight line let alone be a functional human being.
  • Do you need to bring lunch? Make it the night before. Put as much of it in your backpack ahead of time as possible. Or at least in line of sight of the door.
  • Fill up your water bottle, make sure you’ve got meds for tomorrow in your bag, make sure you’ve put everything back in your bag.
  • Can you prep breakfast the night before? Do it. Remember, any food is a valid breakfast food as long as you eat it.
  • Need to remember something in the morning? Can you put it in your bag/backpack the night before? If so, do!
  • Set out your clothes for the morning, shower at night, set all your electronics to charge, etc.
  • When you wake up, listen to music first thing.
  • Okay, so this is a few things rolled into one. You need to make sure your headphones and phone are charging within reach of your bed. When you wake up in the morning, the very first thing you do is grab your headphones and start listening to a high energy playlist.
  • It’s hard to go back to sleep when there’s Exciting Moving Music in your ears. This will help convince your body to get up.
  • Keep listening to the high energy music as you do the things you need to do.
  • Set more than one alarm.
  • You have your ‘you need to get up alarm’, but consider a second alarm for ‘hey, you need to get out the door now’.
  • Also, consider using a physical alarm clock that’s across your room, so you have to get up to turn it off. The more annoying, the more motivating for you to actually get up.
  • Be kind to yourself.
  • Don’t start your morning by beating yourself, don’t start off insulting yourself for having forgotten something or yelling at yourself to get up.
  • Patience, and steady attempts will build up habits that make this easier and easier. You’ll still make mistakes sometimes, and that’s okay. Be kind to yourself and keep trying. Try to find ways to make things easier for yourself. You’ll figure it out with time.

Okay I saw this immediately went OH SHIT I NEED THAT and went to do mine and remembered a thing IF YOU HAVE PERIODS PUT A LITTLE BAG IN THERE WITH PADS AND TAMPONS AND MEDICINE never again having to ask for a teacher for a pad

Yes, absolutely! I keep ibuprofen and pads on me at all times! Even if you don’t have a period or aren’t expecting yours any time soon, it can be a good idea to carry a few extra pads around in case a friend needs them!

john boyega being honest about the racism of disney star wars in his GQ cover story is so important and unbelievably brave for him to do. disney could easily blacklist him for his comments and have done so to others over less- we gotta make sure we support him, his career, and message as much as possible. he could potentially get so much industry retaliation from speaking truth to power like this

FUCK the mouse and fuck how they treated john boyega- it is racism. believe him and don’t be quiet about it.

god this is a big ask but I really wish there were like….. a site where you could plug in your state/district/whatever and tick some boxes on issues you prioritize and then the site would give you a rundown of the potential candidates in your area and where they stand on those issues in like….. clean simple bullet points. gimme the cliffnotes, I literally do not have the time or energy to comb through god knows how many articles and shit to figure out who to support, just tell me what their stance is on X, Y, and Z, and that’s gonna have to be enough.

There’s BallotReady!

It goes through who’s on your ballot and explains things like that based on your address.

this is really great. it gives you bullet points on what each candidate has said and done on each issue.

very illuminating, frankly, seeing the candidate’s own words and actions. for instance, under ‘defense/veterans’ the republican candidates almost always say something about a well-funded military, and the democrats almost always say something about getting veterans the medical care they need. makes it pretty obvious that republicans don’t care about soldiers once they’re done with them.

OK So with the shit with the USPS going on:

1. Check your Voter registration to make sure everything is up to date.  If you can, request a Mail-In Ballot.  I live in CO, where all elections are Mail-In only now, so I get one anyway.

2. Fill out your ballot per the instructions on your Ballot.  Some Notes:

  • Read Instructions thoroughly, and fill out your Ballot in private.
  • Do NOT post pictures of your Ballot as this may invalidate it.  DO Post pictures of your “I Voted” sticker.
  • Make sure to vote for all the offices up for election- as important as the presidential election is, your mayor, governer, local school board and sherrif have a MUCH bigger impact on your immediate safety and quality of life.  Google your candidates, look up the Leauge of Women Voter’s Guides for a reliably Impartial rundown of your local candidates.
  • Remember also that it is better to have someone in office that is only moderately incompotent, than it is to have someone that actively wants you dead.  It is the first step to having someone worthwhile next time.
  • If you wanted a third party option, your local elections are the best place to do this- my own city council has several Green Party members and it got me city-sponsored single-stream recycling! Its also moving the state legislature significantly farther left.

3. INSTEAD OF MAILING IT- LOOK UP WHERE YOUR BALLOT DROP-OFF LOCATIONS ARE.

They’re boxes you drive or walk or bus or bike or whatever up to and drop your ballot in, and the elections officials will have it that evening. Pros of Ballot Drop-Off:

  • Can be turned in the same day you reccive your ballot, if you want to get this over with ASAP
  • Open 24/7, so you can drop it off whenever
  • Absolutely guaranteed to get your vote counted, regardless of what Donald does with the Post Office.
  • No waiting in line
  • No exposing yourself to the coronavirus

Most cities will have several ballot Drop-Off locations, at places like the grocery store, the county courthouse, city hall, at high schools etc.  Google your town or county name and “Ballot Drop Off Locations” and it’ll give you directions even.

Absolutely Save the USPS, but this is the BEST way to make sure your vote gets counted this

the USPS is now REMOVING MAIL SORTING MACHINES. the shit is hitting the fan. i need to reiterate that signing petitions or texting a number that sends an email isn’t going to cut it. dont send complaints to louis dejoy’s office or any bullshit like that. don’t waste your time. people who live in the US need to CALL their Senators and House reps. you need to post about this constantly. you need to make a big deal about this with friends and family. get them do it too.

if you want to save the USPS i am BEGGING you call your representatives directly to DEMAND they co-sponsor and vote for:

1. the Delivering for America Act (call HOUSE reps). This attempts to reverse the bullshit Trump is doing.

2. USPS Fairness Act (call SENATORS). This is a MAJOR repeal of the bullshit the Bush admin and the Republicans did in 2006 that fucked over the USPS in the first place.

3. HEROES Act (call SENATORS). This is the coronavirus omnibus that includes IMMEDIATE USPS relief. Make it clear you want the USPS portion to be included.

I am dead serious: If you are a Walmart employee, at any level and in any store — like if you are a high school kid with a part time job stocking shelves — message me any question you have about unions. Like ask me “What’s a union” if you want. I will explain it to you. I am a grievance chair for a white collar union whose workplace only unionized within the last five years and whose management fought as every step of the way, but in the end we fucking won. It can be done, and I can tell you how.

Rb to kill wal mart

Unionizing is our wet dream I promise you.

I like how it’s described as a union could “cripple American Capitalism” when more precisely it’s just that a union would be so powerful as to force WalMart (or any other company) to pay their workers like human beings. That’s not going to break Walmart. They’ll barely notice.

They’ve successfully convinced us that the unions are the greedy monsters. For so many years, the companies have painted unions as “we want you to pay janitors three million dollars a year and if you don’t we’ll set your stores on fire”.

But it’s more like “We want you to take an almost imperceptible fraction of your bountiful profits and use it to make your employees’ live marginally better, and maybe give them medical benefits, y’know, so they don’t die”.

Big companies did not stop hiring ten year olds to work in coal mines because they just woke up one day and said “my god, we’re monsters”. They did it because their workers stood together and said “really, enough of this crap”.

Companies are not going to give people raises unless it’s economically necessary that they do so. Anything they can do to lower their expenses, and raise their profits, they are going to do. And no one person can stop them.

But thousands of people, millions of people? Better chances.

To anyone that wants to claim it wouldn’t work:

Just another reminder that Walmart Germany was a spectacular fail because of ver.di (which is a national service trade union that has it’s control over almost all trade and service companies in Germany) among other things.

Like, ver.di essentially came up to the CEO of Walmart Germany and was like “Hi, welcome, we wish you the best and that we can work together well :)” and the dude was like “hahaha no” and tried to pull the american concept here so ver.di pulled out a list of all the breaches of german law that Walmart was doing (underpaying workers, trying to avoid paying health care by using part-timers, trying to be open for more than 80 hours per week, firing people on short notice without warning or exit payments, etc) and long story short, they got some massive hefty fines for it. They also set up a list of demands for the workers and organized national strikes to push them through, making the employees of 85 hypermarkets neatly stand in front of the store doors with signs, whistles and chants (and certainly not the “Wallmart! Wallmart!” chant). In the end, that plus other things caused them to bail after 9 years with a gigantic loss (almost a billion just from sales) from one of the best retail markets in the world.

So all those issues like “no healthcare” or “work full-time and need food stamps” or “work on sundays and holidays” and shit? Unions are there to set their foot down against that for you. They are there to keep you safe from the corps wrath while fighting for your rights.

Cause if you, an individual, complain, they just fire you and laugh about it. A union is a collection of hundreds up to MILLIONS of people, supported by lawyers, going against employers for you.

In Denmark, due to union negotiations & refusal to work for slave wages, the McDonald’s basic pay comes out to about $20 US / Hour. The big mac there costs about 60 cents more.

Actually crippling capitalism is good and cool anyway

Reminder than Walmart won’t even be paying time and a half during thanksgiving and Black Friday to their employees. They only give them a DISCOUNT On two specific days. Shit pay and their only “perk” is to give the money back to Walmart by shopping there.

Fuck Walmart. Unionize. Burn the waltons down.

August 1, 2020 - After federal agents left Portland, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) renewed their commitment to police brutality. A peaceful march took place in a Portland suburb and was immediately met with police violence. PPB were filmed dragging protesters, beating them, slashing tires, busting car windows, and targeting street medics. Several reporters on the scene were pepper-sprayed from point-blank range and threatened. Additionally, PPB had a riot cop who’s sole task was filming protesters – an act that is illegal for the PPB to do.

National news wants you to think this story (and every protest pushing back against the police) is over. It’s not. Link to Twitter footage.

I just want to clarify- even though McConnell and other republicans have slammed on the “NO NO NO we aren’t doing that” brakes- we should still be concerned.

Between this and Trump’s refusal to commit to election results, he is deliberately undermining his base’s trust in the electoral process. By citing “voter fraud” as his reason to try to delay the election, now even though the election WILL happen on time, if (when) he loses, he can claim that the election was illegitimate- that it was voter fraud, that he warned us, that he knew it was rigged, that Congress didn’t do enough to stop all the ~fraud~ that he knew was there, and he will refuse to step aside peacefully.

He has been placing armed mercenaries in major American cities run by democratic mayors, and he is laying the groundwork to claim that the election is illegitimate if (when) he loses.

You need to vote, so that both the Electoral College and the Popular vote are against him, and when this asshole finally breaks the tradition of the peaceful transition of power (which is what he is planning), when you need to be willing to protest and fight more than you ever have before.

Like, I do not want to be an alarmist here, but we could be looking at like… Congress having to send in armed men to remove this man from office, and depending how the Republicans in power and his base handle that, we could be looking at a level of violence in the transition of power that is literally unheard of in the US.

^^^^^^ This.

This si why you vote blue even if you’re in a scarlet state with no hope of winning the electoral college.

This is why you vote for Biden even if you loathe him with every fiber of your being.

This is it.

If we are to have any hope of maintaining a fair system and avoiding an all-out dictatorship, the numbers have to be absolutely unambiguous.

Go. Vote. Blue.

Fuck. Joe. Biden.

Look, YES fuck Joe Biden. And I know that asking people to vote for a shitty option because the other viable option is FAR worse is hardly convincing. I know.

But a vote for Joe Biden isn’t just a vote against Trump. It’s also a vote for all the positions that Biden would get to fill, rather than leave Trump’s people (like Barr and DeVos) in charge.

It’s also a vote for all the judges Biden would appoint (Which is likely at LEAST 1 Supreme Court pick.)

It’s a vote for all of the 700+ positions that the President appoints and Senate confirms (Not just being generally better than Trump’s picks, but ACTUALLY GETTING FILLED. Trump still had over 170 unfilled appointments as of this year.)

And honestly, at this point, it’s also a vote that says “You shouldn’t get to undermine our electoral process and threaten the peaceful transition of power and STAY IN POWER.”

Joe Biden is a bad candidate, and I wish we had gotten nearly anyone else. But I do believe that he’s a candidate who like… generally respects our political process, who could competently staff an administration, who could be reasoned with and compromised with, and who isn’t going to try to crown himself Emperor. Biden probably won’t spend hours a day on Twitter instead of like, reading security briefings.  It SUCKS that we have to aim as low as “isn’t literally trying to power grab himself a dictatorship” but the other option is to forfeit your vote and let the dictator get reelected.

So please, for the love of fuck, can we try to temper our disappointment with pragmatism? We should always vote for the best possible option, even if the best possible option is kinda shitty.

As if having a corpse with puppet strings in the office would make things any better. Theres seriously enough resentment towards both major parties that a third party or independent candidate could actually stand a chance if die-hard party-liners could think for themselves.

1. Having Biden, as much of a rat bastard as he is, is absolutely better than Trump, and if you can’t see that then you are lacking in perspective. If for no other reason than Biden, at a minimum, will like… respect the checks and balances of government and not clumsily hint at a coup leading up to his reelection. It’s a low bar, but an important one.

2. No there isn’t. There is no third party in this country that even comes close to winning a SINGLE STATE, much less the entire Electoral College. If you want to see more third party representation, then between now and 2024, you need to campaign HARD for Ranked Ballots and abolishing the EC. But if you honest to God think that any third party has enough support to be viable RIGHT NOW, you are out of your mind.

House:

Senate:

THIS is not a political landscape where your dark horse miracle third party candidate is going to win, and it’s naive to think so. (Also WHO? Which third party candidate do you think enough people could possibly rally behind?)

I’m sorry. It’s not fair that your choices are Joe Biden and the End of American Democracy.  But guess fucking what? That’s the choice you get this year. Make it, and then fight like hell to reform our electoral system so you never have to make a choice so rotten again.

y’all saying BLM for one situation just don’t sit right with me, it goes beyond police brutality!!! it’s Black women dying at a higher rate during childbirth. it’s Black people being exposed to COVID-19 at a higher rate. it’s Black people being forced into low income communities. it's Black people being denied job opportunities due to the name on their applications. it's Black people being denied into higher institutions despite having the same qualifications as their non-Black counterparts. it's Black people having their creations and ideas stolen without being given credit simply because a good percentage of society still believes in 2020 that Black people are not creative enough or smart enough or skilled enough. this isn't just about police brutality. this is deeper than that.
