Happy New Year everyone!

I’m delighted to announce that Interact-IF is officially back in business! I (Allie @allieebobo) will be taking the reins as the new mod, and I’m very excited to get this blog up and running again!

First, a heartfelt thank-you to the original mod team for everything they’ve built. Interact-if has become such an invaluable resource and hub for interactive fiction fans and authors alike. It’s a tough act to follow, but I’ll do my best to keep the spirit of this wonderful space alive :)

A little bit more about me: I’m the author of two WIP interactive fiction games, @collegetennisoriginstory and @merrycrisis-if. Interact-if was one of the first blogs/places that I discovered almost three years ago now, and it led me to so many amazing stories, authors, and resources.

When I saw that the blog was going into archive mode, with a call for a new generation of mods, I wanted to do my best to help out. I reached out to the original mod team and worked out a gameplan for the future of Interact-if, which I’d like to share with all of you today.

BoaR Update

So since today was an annoying day, and I bought myself something nice, you get something too!

This adds 60k words, and brings the overall IF to over 220k.

In this update, you can:

- join the ranks of an exclusive group tasked with protecting the secrets of the cult, learn about the hidden secrets and who truly rules

- meet the Phoenix, your religious leader and promised spouse, dance a bit!

- learn more about the First Consort, and... why do you two look so alike?

- choose sides in a vampire feud: will you remain loyal to the Phoenix or follow the Rapaces?

- sleep with an undead girl (or just talk)

-sleep with a male Dove (or just talk, if on a certain route try to force it, see what happens!)

- meet two new ROs: a puppy-like Beizen teammate with rose-coloured glasses, or a fellow soldier and proud son of a fallen Saint

- get arrested for murder and sent to a high security prison

- mourn some old friends

- teach a Stray how to fight (aka box with a werewolf, what can go wrong?)

- bake!

- spend more time with a character of your choice, RO or otherwise - face some more revelations (there aren't enough yet after all) and more! (sadly mostly tba, I will be working on those)

The Interact-IF Writing Spotlight’s fifth and final category is Best Choice.

Best Choice could refer to a really impactful branch of the IF, or a single choice that stuck with you, or just an IF that implements the consequences of each choice really well—e.g. gives the players a real sense of agency.

Hi everyone,

This was a long time coming (actually, it's 6 months late... waves at things) but The Trials and Tribulations of Edward Harcourt is FINALLY COMPLETE!

Chapter 5 and 6, along with the 5 different Epilogues have been added to the game. So you can now discover what sordid affair was happening in the depths under Castle Garbuie.

Will you save the day? Will you perish in your trials? Only your choices will tell!

PLAY THE FINAL CHAPTERS!

Along with the additional chapters, there have been changes in the back end code (due partly to the SugarCube update and to the update). There are still a few things I'd like to implement (Achievements, QoL and accessibility, etc...), so while the story is complete, this is technically an OPEN BETA.

The update includes:

a New Game+ function (to unlock a hidden option)
a Character Randomiser (for Chapter 1)
and a Discord (for bugs and feedback)!

Graveyard Bouquet is a 18+ horror romance game which takes you through the haunting performance of a newly recruited member of The Nightshade Opera House. Will your stage-play end with a curtain call of resounding applause or will you succumb to what lurks within the shadows of the theatre?

There are two main romance options, both are gender selectable and one secret option that's gender-locked as non-binary.

DEMITRIUS/DEMITRIA SINCLAIR ⸺ THE STAGE MANAGER.

In years gone by, the patrons of Nightshade Opera once fawned over the passionately breathtaking performances D accomplished in their youth, and for years had D given their everything to Nightshade Opera, until one day D abandoned the stage and the world of performing without an explanation, putting an end to their acting career forever. Fulfilling the promise of a late friend, D returned as the stage manager, and despite their nonchalant behavior there's a look of longing in their eyes each time they gaze at the stage.

LUCILIUS/LUCILIA VAN ROSSUM ⸺ THE LEAD ACTOR.

They're at the theatre long before anyone else, and they leave long after everyone else. L comes from a lineage of performers that dates back to their great-great grandparents and the pressure to continue that legacy is suffocating. As the leading actor of Nightshade Opera, L acts with intimidating grace and does not tolerate taking it easy during rehearsals, often leading to enraged outbursts and them storming off, but despite their irascible behavior, L would never jeopardize the reputation of Nightshade Opera.

THE ???

You see them only sometimes, convinced that it's because you're merely tired from rehearsals, or worse; hallucinating. A disembodied figure standing beneath the ghost light upon stage, the creaking of bones broken many moons ago, staggering across lacquered wood as if dancing something rehearsed numerous times before, the screeching of torn vocal chords singing a song so hauntingly beautiful and foreboding, yet the moment you blink your eyes— they're gone.

What “Best World” means is really up to interpretation, but a general guideline would be any IF, choicescript, twine, or VN that has rich, immersive world-building or a textured, captivating setting that you enjoyed.

hi! I’ve got a find-that-if ask. I was playing an if a while ago, and all I can really remember is one scene from a specific ro? So your returning back to your sort of childhood town (don’t remember why) and you meet one of your friends (?) from your childhood who is still living w/ his parents who are now kind of really overbearing. The ro is a very artsy character and there is a scene where you go art supply shopping with him and then you make some signs for an event that his mom is putting on and you have the option to draw some dogs on the sign. Also I think that there was an option to be transgender and there would be a bit of dialogue with a bunch of people in the town about it? I might be making that part up though

Yeah, she's right there in the same city. She's always had this knack for trying to steer your ship, like every decision's a GPS checkpoint. But hey, there's this one thing that's never let you down—your skateboard. It's like the buddy that's been with you through thick and thin, the one that never bails. Among all this craziness it's like your anchor. So, the big question is—can you break out of the loop you got in? Find your place in the world and restart or lose yourself in temptation? I'm so sorry if tumblr didn't eat my ask and it's still marinating somewhere, but I'd thought I'd give another chance at looking for an old game I played involving fae(ries?)s, romance and fantasy politics! I remember the IF had 4 ROs. 3 were a royal trio of friends who torment MC and the 4th RO was a human who somehow got into the fae world (to fulfill something?) You play as a human MC and are considered a "bastard" child because your mom tried to escape the fae world with your human dad which the king/her ex husband kills infront of you and forcefully takes you in. When I was searching for it, it sounded very similar to Faewild (which I haven't read) yet I'm 80% confident that isn't the IF I'm looking for.

[Looking for a story where you play as a character who has a mark on their hand that they have to hide because something about it puts them in danger. One of the ROs I believe is named Mack, which may be short for something but I could also be completely off on his name, but he’s something like a mercenary that the MC is with for protection.]

I remember a WIP, finding a demo on dashingdon that is ancient in 2025. I recall the MC travels to a tavern, meeting with two companions, a man and a woman. It delves into MC's reason for where they are, including the mark on their hand that marks them. Luckily I found the title mentioned in COG and found the post.

Does the WIP "Invoker" ring a bell?
