A lot could've been done better, but I don't find the Chameleon's backstory as ridiculous as people make it sound considering how:

1- Shifu spent half of the first movie trying to get rid of Po, even when he was chosen by Oogway

2- This was literally his reaction in secrets of the scroll

Hey, so, the "Mantis says skill issue." memes are funny and all but Shifu was a fucking asshole before Po came along and even at the end of KFP 4 he still didn't want to train Zhen so F5 had to do it. Therefore it is not at all a stretch to believe that maybe the Chameleon tried to ask him for training when she was younger, possibly before Tigress and Tai Lung's time, and he just told her to fuck off.

KUNG FU PANDA (2008)

When you put it side by side like this, it really illustrates just how undisciplined Tai Lung was, and I feel like it says a lot about the themes of the film.
