it’s so bizarre when animated American films are set in a certain location and then only certain characters have the accents of that place. It makes no damn sense!! like

WHY IS SHE MORE FRENCH THAN THE REST OF THEM???

WHY ARE THESE GUYS MORE SCOTTISH THAN THE KIDS??

(also, aren’t they Vikings or something?)

To be fair, almost everyone in Ratatouille does have a French accent. The real question is why Linguini and also all the rats sound intensely American

If it was just the rats I’d say it’s because the movie can be interpreted to mean that the rats understand but don’t necessarily speak human languages so the rat dialog isn’t literally taking place the way we see it but that doesn’t explain why Linguini has a rat accent

LINGUINI HAS A RAT ACCENT

Do we ever hear like

For sure that Linguini grew up in France tho?

It could be possible he’s just an American immigrant

I mean his name is Alfredo Linguini so I always assumed he was Italian

I’m sorry his first name is Alfredo?

What

ALFREDO???

he’s American you guys his mother was American it was mentioned in the beginning

I’m sorry, I’ve moved on to the fact his mother was going through her cupboard for baby names

Alfredo was a name before it was a sauce let’s go over the movie from the top again

REMINDER: the part of a comb jelly that looks like a mouth is in fact a mouth

Turns out I do need to clarify that these particular comb jellies are actually not filter feeders :)

these are also the true actual first animal group that’s ever thought to have existed; comb jellies or ctenophores are survivors from the *ediacaran,* the point in time where we can’t even guess what kind of animal most of the fossils are. But, maybe all of them were just wacky shaped comb jellies???? we will never know. this one ate them all.

i just realized the new animal crossing lacking gyroids makes sense because you live on an uninhabited island and the gyroids are literally graves

you cant dig up a grave if no ones died there yet

 you know what that means

Finding gyroidite out in the open in Pocket Camp has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY stranger

this is why coco’s house looks like a pyre, for some of these figures the body would be cremated and the ash mixed with clay to create the statue

her japanese name is also Yayoi which is a reference to the japanese yayoi period which is when the haniwa statues that eventually inspired gyroids came about

so coco is more like. a ghost possessing a statue.

here are some japanese haniwa figures from the kofun period that more closely resemble the in-game gyroids ( note the arms! ). the rain’s part in this was mostly, like with any other shallow grave, loosening tge earth around them and washing it away, allowing it to eventually work its way up to the surface.

ALSO

in older iterations if you went to another town then restarted your console, your face would be that of a gyroids to try to scare you into remembering to save everything properly

Pancake the steamrollered teddy bear, found at the op shop last Christmas. Though he’s pretty two-dimensional, he has a unique personality and is perfectly travel sized to squish in a suitcase — or to slip down the side of the bed.
