The idea that a religion should change with the times is dumb.

Okay, so your god suddenly sees the rules in a different way than they did for centuries before. That means either A: You worship a god that learns and develops its morality alongside humanity- making it no more moral or upright than an average human and therefore unworthy of any form of worship.

Or B: You worship a god that does and has always had moral standards, but is choosing to lie and hide those standards from its followers, in which case the dishonesty and failure to communicate expectations also renders it unworthy of worship.

Or C: the religion actually DOES stand firm with an immutable and unchanging moral god, but the followers have decided not to follow that idea and instead pretend their god has changed its mind about truth and morality, which means the followers consider themselves more knowledgable and trustworthy concerning morality and they therefore don't truly worship or respect this god they claim to follow.

The Christian God does not and will not change His decisions on right and wrong. You can worship Him and accept His word, or you can deny Him and reject it. But do not put words in His mouth as if He is some child who doesn't know what's best and needs you to speak for Him. Either you know that God understands morality better than you and has set rules for your good, or you don't think He's all-knowing at all and you have no reason to follow Him in the first place.

the thing is. you will always come back different. you will always come back wrong. you will always come back with a big piece of your soul missing or changed or warped. the thing is. you will be loved anyway.

Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'

She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.

Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?

Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.

Hope

Hope is defiance.

I love sunflowers. I have no interest in gardening, but I do have a pot of Lego sunflowers in my dining room. My wallpaper on my phone is a field of sunflowers I made in a game.

Throughout the day, a sunflower will face towards the sun to get as much sunlight as it can for photosynthesis.

But not every day is clear skies. Some days are overcast and sunlight is limited. Some days are storming and the sunflower gets almost no sunlight at all.

But even on these days, the sunflower still knows where the sun will be in the sky at any time, because the sun is consistent. If it’s been in the same spot at the same time every day before, why would today be any different?

Hope is defiance.

And during the night, when there is no sunlight to be found, where does the sunflower face?

To the east, where the sunflower knows the sun will rise. The sun always rises in the east. It has every day before, why would today be any different?

Hope is defiance.

We live in a culture that tells us to focus on all the things going wrong.

The bills keep coming, fuel and groceries keep getting more expensive, the depression and anxiety keeps getting worse, and there’s always some new horror to be found on the news.

And hope, in its defiance, sees all of this and says ‘better days are coming.’ God’s mercies are new every morning.

Bills keep coming? My God will meet all of my needs according to His riches and glory.

Depression won’t quit? Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom Of Heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Anxieties keeping you down?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

Even in the midst of the storm, we have hope, because the Son of God is right there in the midst with us, just like he was in the boat with His disciples. He wasn’t worried about the storm then, in fact He was sleeping. He takes us through the storm, not out of it. He knows how it ends.

It ends with hope.

If we trust that the Bible is truth, and that the truth never changes as the Bible tells us, then there is always reason for hope.

Just like the sunflower trusts that another sunrise will come, we can trust that we always have hope in the Christ who died for us.

Western Christians have been avoiding this because it makes us look primitive in the eyes of unbelievers, but we should be the first to say “yes, magic is real, magic has power, magic often does just what the practitioner says it will, but it is animated by demons and the practitioners are not the ones in control” because I guarantee our brothers and sisters in the third world will say it without hesitation

I think it's important to balance this though with the statement that Christ is way more powerful than any of the demons and we have no cause to be afraid of them having any power over us as believers. Not only can a Christian not be possessed, (Mark 3:27) but demons are afraid of the name of Christ and of the preaching of the gospel, and boldness and brave faith will cause them to flee.

i miss when things had real tactility instead of either feigned tactility or none at all

all buttons should make an audible satisfying click that you can actually feel. touchscreen "buttons" on things such as microwaves refrigerators car dashboards etc etc should be illegal

The remake reboot prequel sequel industrial complex is killing me but the good thing is I don't have to watch any of that. I can just think "that sounds boring or otherwise doesn't interest me in any way" and do something other than watch it

"They're making a willy wonka origin story with timothee chalamet," you might say to me. "They're doing a live action the last airbender again, didn't you love avatar?" I don't find it necessary. This is nothing to me
