Now that the hype and hysteria for acosf has faded and the rose tinted gaze we observed it through removed, a lot of us are realizing how atrocious it was for mental health acceptance and growth. Nesta started the book hating herself and ended the book hating herself, with the added calamity of feeling the need to ignore the wrong the IC has done to her or not acknowledge Cassianss flaws and just blame herself for every falling out the couple may have.

Remember how cassian said he was shackled to her? And remember how nesta felt the need for HER to apologize? Yeah, appalling. Then theres her saying that rhys showed her nothing but kindness even though hes threatened to kill her several times.

Idk about you, but I see those incidents and her downplaying them seem like someone who's prepped for emotional abuse. If cassian wants nesta to bend to him or his will, all he needs to do is blackmail her by saying "because I'm a bastard?" And he knows she'll feel bad and comply. That kiddies is emotional abuse. And there nothing cute or empowering about it.

Why didnt Rhysand just "mist" the king of hybern or any of their other enemies? I mean he turned an orange to a perfume with a snap of his fingers and his dad killed an illyrian with with same power, so why didnt rhys just do the same?

I was randomly thinking about how in acosf, minutes after Nyx was born, everyone was raving about how beautiful he was and the prettiest baby in the world and how ridiculous that is.😂 Do you know how scary looking newborn babies are? They are kinda...ugly. and only start being cute days later. They highkey look like aliens but in acosf Nyx popped out of the womb an Adonis.

Can we talk about how the night court is literally the worst court for women?

Like the Illyrians (the men) are literally an entire race that are homophobic and sexist who oppress their women i refuse to say female and clip their FUCKING wings

And the court of nightmares is apparently hell on earth filled with the worst beings one can imagine who are also sexist as fuck

So expect for the women who live Velaris every other women is oppressed

But what does the oh king of feminism and his oh so equal to him in every shape of form high lady does about this? Nothing, but u know im sure building a fifth house was more important than saving these women🤪🤪

I don’t understand WHY THE FUCK these people are still aliveee??whyyyy?? isn’t ricecake the most powerfull high lord ever? Why hasn’t he killed them or at least banished them or sent them to jail? Oh yes because he needs an army in case of a war so it doesn’t really matter what they do as long as they kill for him in the end

Ricecake really was like yeah we are the first court to have a highlady (glorified housewife) so sexism has evaporated from the nigh court

It's very telling that we can only know characters races for sure in the series when coloring book artists speak out. I get that its fantasy and race isnt divided the way it is in our world, but the rep is ambiguous to a fault. I shouldn't have to become a detective to know a characters race guys.

This has been bothering me for a few days so I figured it was time to say something and I truly say this in the most respectful, delicate way possible:

Helion is not meant to be a black man.

The artist that created the ACOTAR coloring book worked directly with SJM and the publishing team to indicate that he’s meant to be of a Persian/Middle Eastern background. You can find this information here. Now, people from this cultural background can range from light-skinned to dark-skinned so the description used in the book is fine. It’s not great, but it’s fine. It works.

I ask this in the kindest way possible, for the fandom to please, please not erase the identity of Helion by forgetting that there are other kinds of POC. He is of a Persian/Middle Eastern background. This also makes a lot of sense when it comes to Lucien being his son and being able to pass off as light-skinned (tan) enough to be part of the Autumn Court.

As a POC with this cultural background myself, it has been very frustrating. This of course, is more SJM’s fault than anyone else’s because she isn’t clear when writing POC so the fandom has to grasp at straws but it was explained. The artist got enough heat that the ask isn’t even available on her page anymore but it is clearly said what background he is. So please, don’t erase his identity and keep this in mind for future fanart/fancast.

I doubt I'll make sense with this but I needed to get it off my chest...

Its super interesting to me how fan artists have no issue drawing female POC's like Emerie with ethnic features, (sometimes exaggerated to the point of masculinization), but have a hard time doing the same for the male characters.

I've only seen about 2 Lucien fan arts that make him look evidently black/mixed, while the majority portray him as white. The bat bois are almost always white, even though their phenotype descriptions say otherwise. Helion and Tarquin are always super light skin even though they are canonly dark skin. But every female character who's had a character description that suggests poc, are almost always accurately depicted. Eg amren, emerie, cressida.

At some point Tarquin was described to have skin like mahogany and Helion glowing dark skin, but the fan arts give both of them cinnamon coloured skin. Tarquin I recall has straight white hair and Helion has onyx hair which we can assume is 4c, since you know hes a black man, but hes always drawn having a silk press. Thesan on the other hands chatacter description places him as East Asian, granted theres not a lot of art on him, but I've never once seen him depicted as east asian. Hes always depicted as white.

I dont know where all this stems from, but I've seen conversations around many fandoms who've concluded that it comes from pure white washing and the masculinization of POC women. Almost every fan art of emerie I've seen, shes depicted as being dark skin with a broad nose, yet the bat bois are very ambiguous on the race aspect, even though they are of the same race.

Lucien....oh lucien. I can forgive fanart of lucien pre-acowar, but not when present day art still portray him as white. There's a multitude of art depicting him being pale in complexion even though he's described as having golden skin and being darker than his brothers. I know golden can be vague, but why is golden as it relates to race obvious when drawing female pocs, but a huge debate when it comes to males.

I'm not saying that fan artists should stop giving females ethnic features, I actually think it's a good thing, a brilliant thing. But why dont they extend the same care and attention to adequate racial representation to males? Why is it that when its pointed out that the illyrians are phenotypically arabic/Hispanic, it's a huge debate when it comes to the bat bois portrayal in art, but done without hesitation in the depictions of females like emerie?

I dont know if I'm making sense, but yeah. Then theres the problem of making poc women overly masculine in fan arts, but that's another long conversation.

Added not, I do acknowledge that most fan arts depict Cassian atleast as being significantly darker, but skintone isn't the only indication of race. Its skin tone, hair texture, hair color, noses, facial structure etc. Not only skin tone.

Nesta in Acosf essentially apologized for being depressed and was villanized for displaying symptoms.

Very overdramatic and main character vibes that feyre and rhys freak out sooo hard EVERY time the other one dies. And that all the other characters believe it and get all sad and shit?¿?¿ It’s like okay team, we know the procedure, feyre/rhy died again, just wait a hot minute, turn on some tunes and wait for their second resurrection of the week
