Challenge #5
“Why do you seem more nervous than Piper does?” Sydney asked Xander in a whisper, but you could still tell she was smirking.
My brother pointedly ignored her, keeping his sight on the door where our family could come through any second now. Sydney however, didn’t take that as an answer and discreetly pulled at his suit.
“It’s been awhile, okay?” He grumbled in annoyance at her insistence. “The last time I saw them was more than two years ago, when I finished my training.”
“But shouldn’t you be excited to see them then?” She queried.
“This is me being excited.” Xander retorted.
Sydney glared at him, and after making sure no one else was staring our way, she hit him with her feather-duster. Xander finally turned to scowl at her and this time I had to snort back a laugh.
“Shouldn’t she be helping Kady with something?” Xander hissed at me with squinting eyes.
I shrugged with amusement. “Don’t ask me.”
Xander sighed and turned to look back at Sydney, who responded with sticking her tongue out. He shook his head with a grunt, taking a few steps forward as he looked back at the doors. Another family came through, but it seemed to be Holly’s.
“You two are impossible.” he grumbled, crossing his arms.
“Don’t do that. You will wrinkle your suit.” Sydney teased.
My brother let out another exasperated sigh, but he uncrossed his arms. I turned to Sydney and we shared a mischievous smile before she headed for the next thing she would actually clean. I kept on smiling though, knowing very well that she was one of the reasons Xander was so giddy.
I walked up to him and linked my hands behind my back. “You know… mom will notice. It won’t take her long.”
Xander’s lips turned into a thin line. “Yes, I am very aware.”
