Quick Easter wallpaper featuring Una and Charlotte in their questionably canonical costumes… (I didn't have time to draw the new seasonally "appropriate" pinup I was thinking of, so I figured I'd do some more tinkering with the lighting on this old art since I put a lot of time into drawing it but never felt like the rendering hit its full potential).

Anyway, Happy Easter!

Viktoria tries out a little low-fashion style while enjoying a refreshing beverage.

I'm pretty sure I drew this picture last summer, but it was a pretty warm day today and Spring is just around the corner, so here we go!

Rhys looking marginally more weeaboo than usual here, though not out of line with her pre-naval academy civilian school uniform.

I haven't pumped out the ink pen pinups in a long time, but I did make a few last fall that I still haven't posted yet... I might clean this up more in the future, but it turned out pretty well on its own so why not now?

STOP Right There, Terrible Driver! No one violates the traffic laws on Officer Flossy's watch... Especially YOU, Dingo Dog!

If you're familiar with my art then you're no-doubt aware that I very seldom draw species that aren't some permutation of avian or equine...

This is what happens when you enjoy drawing sexy anthro characters (frequently in uniform) and are then forced by your toddler to read Cars and Trucks and Things That Go 50,000 hours a day for months on end. I enjoyed the book a lot as a kid myself, but hadn't given it much thought again until recently... I guess I can't resist an excuse to draw uniforms and pleated skirts!

Officer Flossy is © Richard Scarry (or perhaps more accurately, his estate) ...Though obviously I've deviated a bit from her canonical stature.

Also just think about this for a second... Flossy chases a criminal joyriding in a sports car, over SIXTY PAGES of different driving environments, obstacles, and situations, on her BICYCLE, and OUT-LASTS his CAR. Can you imagine how much endurance that takes?? She must have some epic Chun-Li thighs from all that pedaling too!

A Somber Announcement

At the end of January 2024, my father passed away.

I have no intention of ceasing comic production, but I think it is safe to say it will be some time before I can feasibly return to drawing on a regular basis. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you would like to join me in commemorating him, I have written a eulogy, which you may read here.

After experimenting with new brush settings for the line art, I had intended to finish this pinup with a flatter rendering style, but as is typical for me, I just kept adding to it and tweaking it... I am extremely pleased with the result though! I especially love how the neon green highlights look on her scales, but the soft highlights really complete the shiny look and offer contrast to the matte cloth of her outfit. In general I just love the black n' neon color scheme--certainly something different for me, and it was fun to unironically embrace the 2000s mall fashion too.

As I mentioned in the sketch version of this pic, I started yet another AU... It's a totally ordinary early 2000s setting, but with SPACE RAPTORS! It doesn't follow any particular logic, I just just felt like it would be a fun way to express Chasse' personality in a vastly different setting than usual, and draw some fun clothes that wouldn't fit in any other continuity too. Speaking of the sketch version though, I did end up changing her face/expression a little bit. I like both versions, and I feel like the sketch face slightly younger and angrier, while this version is a little older and more fashionably apathetic... Ugh, it's not a phase, MOM!

(@alfafilly I need to see ActualEmo!Forte and idk maybe PerkyGoth!Linda whenever possible).

Time to get inked for the new year! I've been experimenting with brush settings to get away from the default brushes I've used for years now, and try to introduce a bit of the grit inherent to real ink on paper.

Sketchpad 219: It was a chilly day, so Viktoria has a winter dress.

Just ballpoint pen, but I think this one came out pretty nice!

I wanted to explore ways to develop the look and feel of my line art, and this portrait is a quick test using elliptical brushes with a bit of noise (I've just used basic round brushes for a long time now)... I'm surprised at the difference just the brush shape alone makes though!

I'll keep experimenting until I find something I like well enough to use for larger pieces. What do you think? I'm happy to hear comments and suggestions!

Anonymous asked:

We got a world map for Avania, how about a world map for Demonus too?

Avania Mail #101: Demonian Geography 101 - Eraclare might not have failed it, but she could probably use a refresher (or perhaps find whatever scholar she "convinced" to do her homework again), then maybe try again...

This will most likely be the last regular Avania Mail for 2023, but there are plenty more to be answered, so thank you for your questions, stay tuned, and look forward to the new year!

Post Chapter 17 (Part 1) Status Update

It's already that time again? Half a chapter goes by even faster than a whole chapter, but I think it's better than no chapter! Fortunately, chapter 17 has a scene transition with a short time jump roughly halfway through, so splitting it into two parts shouldn't feel too jarring.

2023 has turned into quite a taxing year for me for multiple reasons, and my available time and energy has unfortunately slowed comic production to a crawl... Chapter 17 is fully written and sketched out, but actually illustrating it is the most labor-intensive part and can be very slow going on the highly populated panels.

To keep my morale up and avoid burnout I've always enjoyed making non-comic art along with my comic pages (even if that art is also Avania related), and this year is no exception... Drawing whatever I felt like has been an important stress-reliever for me lately, but advancing the story of Avania is also something I find very fulfilling--at a glacial pace or not!

Anyway, thanks for reading and thank you for your patience. I look forward to Chapter 17 (Part 2) and I'm very excited to finally get to Chapter 18 and beyond. I hope that I will be able to return to my previous production schedule soon so that I can finally share these long-written scenes with everyone!

In the meantime, look forward to more Avania Mail, closing out this year with #101!
