"I think I was really dehydrated."

@elialys / elialys.tumblr.com

You can call me Eli, I'm used to it xD. 36. She/her. French. ISFJ. ND blob. 🏳️‍🌈 🖤🤍💜
Current obsession: usually something with Anna Torv in it.
Fringe owns my heart since 2010 and 'til the day I die. Anna Torv is the softest of unicorns, who we might see out in the sunlight again someday. Olivia Dunham is my QUEEN. Member of the Peter Bishop Defence League. P/O is my most precious OTP. They deserved their happy ending.
Forever ruined by my Doctor/Rose feels. Donna Noble is a gift. Still crying over Ten regenerating.
I write a lot and enjoy making people cry, myself included. You can find me on AO3. Other passions of mine include playing video games (Mass Effect, HZD/HFW, TLoU...)

Per your lovely, lovely flawed show tag, I am curious what you think the flaws of Fringe are?

I’m sorry it took me so long to answer, I got distracted!

Fringe definitely had its share of flaws. I won’t even address the ones that can “be excused” by the fact that it was a show made before/early 2010s in terms of representations/inclusions, because you know, it is what it is.

I think my biggest ‘regret’/annoyance has always been the writers’ tendency to…shove traumas under a rug, or to not properly (if at all) talk about the consequences of some events that happened. I get that they had to make the characters go through a lot of drama because that’s the point of stories, especially on TV shows that have over 20 episodes per season, but the characters suffered through some terrible stuff time and time again, and they were just FINE. And it’s not like they didn’t know how to do it!

I’ve always loved the first few episodes of season 2 because they showed recovery. Olivia had a bad car accident, then she had to kill “Charlie”, and it took her time to get better from all of that, not just physically but emotionally, too. And yet, over and over again after that, she goes through horrible things and there’s…almost nothing? Like, I adore Marionette, I think it’s a brilliant episode through & through, but I still can’t believe Olivia went through all the shit she went through Over There (and coming back) and didn’t have some serious PTSD, on top of EVERYTHING ELSE she’d already gone through (aka why I wrote Shivered Bones). Peter too was barely allowed to mention what Walter did to him after he came back at the end of season 2, barely ever allowed to mention what Altlivia did to him either, except in some awkward bits of dialogue (I will discuss Peter’s character a bit more later).

Also, the whole REWRITING THE TIMELINE at the end of season 3?? Biggest cop-out. I mean, I’ve never hid the fact that any kind of ‘amnesia’ plot is honestly one of my LEAST favorite tropes, in anything. From the moment that season started airing and Peter reappeared being a complete stranger, I just disliked that so much on principle. But what will always pain me is how by doing so, the writers completely erased not just Peter but THE FIRST THREE SEASONS.

Like, poof, gone.

(adding a 'keep reading' because this is long 😂)

Olivia Dunham wanting to be a mother but never believing she was properly built for it. Olivia losing her daughter, finding her, and realizing what an incredible woman she grows up to be. Olivia losing her again and going through the stages of grief, feeling like she’d taken her daughter for granted while she had her. Olivia fighting for her daughter and reminding Peter to fight for her too. Olivia getting her second chance to have her daughter back for good. Olivia proving to herself that she is a damn good mother. Olivia Dunham as a mother.

GIVE YOUR TUMBLR A PROFIL PICTURE!!

I mean it guys!! So many people in my notes look like this:

Most people, me included, will automatically block you/report you if you follow us and you look like this, because we think you're a bot. There has been waves of bot followers so most of the time we don't think twice. Especially if your blog title is 'untitled'.

Give your blog some non-bot identity!

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

Saw a sharp increase in my follower count after posting this. The legitimacy of it is driving me nuts so I also feel the need to say that you can follow anyone on here regardless of whether you’ve interacted with them or not. People like the above mentioned blog are exceptions. Perhaps they themselves think they aren’t and therefore will act like they aren’t, but they are, trust me.

Just follow anyone you wanna follow. The worst thing that can happen is maybe getting soft-blocked by the other person, but if they do soft-block you, then they were never that worth following in the first place.

wow. really hope this isn't actually a norm taking hold with new users! this isn't facebook, you don't need to know people before following them

Goodness isn't inherent, it is a goal to strive for every day. It's a choice you make over and over. It's a skill you practice at and sometimes you slip up. Don't beat yourself up. You are trying, and that's the important thing. There is not one single person on this planet that is perfect, but there are people out there who decide time and time again to be kind. to be compassionate, open minded, and thoughtful. People that choose to help, not because it benefits themselves, but because it is right. Keep working at being a good person

What if Joel had been infected in the museum instead of Tess?

(I'm only working with a knowledge of the characters from the HBO show.)

  • They have similar backstories involving kids.
  • Ellie seemed to be receptive to Tess, listening attentively when Tess explained the fungi network.
  • One thing you'd need to rework is the motivations at the capital building and how Ellie connects the dots of Joel being infected. Maybe he'd be so insistent about getting to Tommy that it tips her off?
  • "I've been on borrowed time for 20 years, Tess, it's finally run out."
  • The little step forward/step back between Joel n Tess would still happen, but she'd bare her teeth at him and surge forward to hug him. Not letting you turn away this time, Tex. She hugs him tight, trying to imprint the feeling of his body against hers in her memory. He allows it for a heartbeat then pushes her away.
  • "If you see Tommy out there-" "I'll give him hell, right after I pull his ass out of whatever trouble he's gotten into."
  • Tess openly mourns Joel and they go on to Bill n Frank's, knowing they can rest and prepare for the journey there.
  • Bill's letter is another blow. Did Joel feel the same way about her? She could never tell exactly what he was thinking, even when his touch was gentle and his eyes soft.
  • She lets herself cry in the shower until the hot water runs out.

That's all I've thought about so far. It'd be interesting to see how Tess and Ellie would change each other, and how Tess would handle the Firefly/hospital situation.

I love these headcanons! I have ideas for Tess and Ellie's dynamic:

  • From day one they bonded, so I imagine they'd get close fast. Much faster than Ellie and Joel.
  • At Bill and Frank's, Ellie says "I'm sorry about your friends," and Tess says "Don't be. It's not like you killed them," and focuses on collecting supplies.
  • In the early days of the journey, Ellie catches Tess swiping away stray tears every now and then, and tries to keep the mood light by asking random questions and telling the occasional pun.
  • After Ellie shoots a man in Kansas City, Tess tells her not to feel guilty. That night, she tells Ellie the story of the 1st time she had to kill someone. (Just normal mom/daughter bonding!)

Ok so I'm literally shaking with the urge that I need to tell you all about a fic right now, because there's a fic with this exact premise called These Lines Etched in Sand written by @elialys, and it's one of the most amazing fics I've ever read. So pleasepleaseplease if you're into the idea of Joel being bit instead of Tess and everything that would mean for the Tess/Ellie bonding, go read it right now and show it some love!

I’m going to second TLEIS. One of the best Tess and Ellie fics. So many emotions. Lots of Mom!Tess in it. It’s so good!!

Thanks so much for the rec! That looks exactly what I was thinking about. I can't wait to dig into it. ☺️

(This is why I love the fandom community! You mention thinking about this idea and someone let's you know that there is indeed a fic that explores that idea out there. Fantastic.)

Thank you so much for reccing my fic, guys, I appreciate it so much!! 😭❤️ I have such an unhealthy amount of love for my little found family after 100,000 words spent with them, and I'm determined to eventually see it through!

It's almost eerie how some of the headcanons/dialogue lines from this post are almost word for word what I wrote in my fic over a year ago now! I sure hope you enjoy it 😊 My mother/daughter issues had a blast 😇
