I think any time anybody sees the bad guy show emotion and you’re not hitting the audience over the head, there’s always a tinge of empathy for that individual.

Wesley, however, is the play’s true revelation. His Flynt is a creature so uncomfortable in his own skin, that when a literal Chekhov’s Gun shows up onstage and is placed in his hands, you can almost feel the shivers running down through the spines of the whole audience. What’s beautiful to watch is how Wesley subverts these preconceptions we have about what people who look and act a certain way ought to be like. He brings a childlike wonder and sweetness to a part that might have been played just for show by a different actor. - (x)
So Cal, who grew up mostly in foster homes, imports the only other living relative she knows exists: her brother, Flynt (Paul Wesley), a taciturn hunter from river country who has just lost his wife in a flood. Yes, this man of the woods seems to be a man of few words. But when he speaks, it is with the wisdom of someone whose calloused fingers are on the rhythmic pulse of Mother Nature. Mr. Wesley, who is best known for taking part in more supernatural activities on television’s “The Vampire Diaries,” brings a grounding, clumsy centeredness to a role that could have turned camp. He, Ms. Campbell and Mr. Harbour convincingly convey the awkwardness of people out of their element. But they can’t disguise a sense of spontaneous character sometimes being subordinated to a writer’s cosmic purposes. - (x)
Flynt (Paul Wesley) just peels away another layer to the family secrets. However, it’s Wesley’s perfectly stilted delivery of Flynt’s simplistic view of the world that is bold: “You wanna bond with that baby…you take that baby dirty as she is….diaper dirty….you…strip her down…and you strip yourself down…and you get down on the ground you wrap your whole body around that baby….even though you might not know what you’re doin’ at all…that’s nature…nature knows what ta do…. like water knows where ta go…you just gotta let it find you.” - (x)
