why is it always “i love you and never “you are my temple, you are my priest, you are my prayer, you are my release”?

“I think,” she said, “that sometimes we don’t feel the things that we are. But others can feel them. I feel your strength.”

Really late, really messy Fire/Brigan doodle for gracelingshipweeks. (Thank you so much to everyone who gave me suggestions, you guys are super inspiring. I definitely want to draw old, married Fire/Brigan one day but I think I need to learn to draw old people first!)

Love this.

“Lilies, I rule, heads, you do," he said, and threw the coin into the air. "Lilies, you rule, heads, you throw again," said Attolia. I spent almost all of 2020 unable to read, returning to a few favorite audiobooks but not much else. This January I read @meganwhalenturner‘s The Thief, a book several friends have been trying to get me to read for over a decade. I ended up reading all five books twice, in less than a month. Besides being brilliant, they returned my love for reading. ♥️ Since then I have devoured (read, read aloud with my teen, listened to) 27 novels, including all the Queen’s Thief audiobooks. The books are magic and I wanted make something to remind me of that magic. My favorite design projects for authors are objects that would appear in their world (like the dice game and playing cards for the Six of Crows books). I knew I wanted something that could from the little peninsula. So I decided to make the gold stater Gen flips in KOA.  @sarahluann graciously drew Irene just as I picture her for me. I adore the results. Now the question is… do I need an Eddisian silver griffin too?

ETA: This is a unique piece. I worked with a jeweler to make it come to life.

Queen's Thief Appreciation Week July 24th

He is the Thief of Eddis,

He is the King Of Attolia,

He is Gen, our undenyingly cool protagonist of the series.

It's FREE DAY! I decided to do another fan art which is inspired by the logo of the 6th book of the series, Return of The Thief. Gen, of course. The relatable character since book one, grumpy but yet kind. What is better than this? All thanks to the awesome author shall we? @meganwhalenturner!

Anyways, I enjoyed participating in the Queen's Thief Appreciation Week. It has been a blast!

And I shall say again,

"Be blessed in your endeavors.".

Aaaaand, bam! My contribution to Queen's Thief Appreciation Week! It's pen, watercolor, and colored pencil and was ultra fun to work on.

Last year I did an ominous piece of Gen falling, so this year I pivoted and did happily ever after.

It's got all your basic moving parts: Gen and Irene heading up to the crenellations,

Phresine loving on baby Hector while baby Eugenia drops a stolen earring that matches her dad's (with her mountain goat plushie nearby),

Helen and Sophos just being stupid cute with their wee heir, while the Magus still studies his map and Pol's sword leans on the wall beneath the three countries' banners,

Your pantheon of deities, with the Great Goddess at the center,

Teleus and Relius enjoying each other's company while Pheris (now with mobility aid!) ignores them (also there's a pigeon),

Costis and bespectacled Kamet with a plate of nut cakes, and a familiar author in the background with her stack of six books,

And, finally, our long-awaited elephant, while two of Gen's attendants search for their king.

Happy Queen's Thief Appreciation Week!!!

Queen's Thief Appreciation Week

(Special fortnight edition)

Day 6: Return of the Thief Day

"...a gryphon on one side facing a lion on the other, with lilies in between. I remember this as the first time I’d seen the unified crest of the Little Peninsula."

-Megan Whalen Turner, Return of the Thief

Been thinking about this crest for a really long time now! Solved the imbalance of the gryphon having wings by putting an olive branch beside the lion (which I now realize is probably supposed to be a mountain lion...er...whoops). Also gave the two animals a crown (annux) to support so they weren't pointing their claws at each other.

As for the lilies, I was looking for old ways of depicting lilies and found this which is great because it doubles now as three minor crowns (basileis) and a dagger. Finally, the border around symbolizes the seas, the flatlands, and the mountains.

Really happy with how this turned out!

“See, Eugenides,” Moira said, holding out a finger from each of her hands and interlinking them. “Only two threads brought together, two threads that touched,” she reassured him. “Nothing more than that. And everything else left up to you.”

Queen’s Thief Appreciation Week, Day 6: Return of the Thief

not sure if this is technically a myth since we don’t quite get the whole thing, but it sure as hell takes me out me every time I read it
