You’re trying to find the love that others had written in between the stars. But it’s cold out there, in the vastness of space; Everyone has secluded themselves and ignore all attempts of contact The oldest stars are the coldest, the years have hardened them beyond relief; Blackholes gnaw at your edges, hoping desperately to abide their hunger for more, more, more- You hold your candlelight spark of hope close against the harsh winds flung from the galaxies spinning into insanity; Each comet you call out to barely glances at you, too busy blindly searching for something they can’t remember You don’t shine as brightly as the other stars, you aren’t vain enough And you’re too small to become a greedy blackhole that consumes everything in sight No, you keep to your area and quietly reach out for something other than loneliness

There’s no love in space because you’re the only one determined enough to have a heart | a.h

You feel so much pain and it only fuels your anger There is a hunger deep within, yearning for this suffering to cease “Why’d she have to die?” The question lingers like poison on your lips You vow to never fail again, To never feel again, But the anger - it consumes you, Causing you to fail again and again countless times

This was the beginning of your downfall | a.h

you brought me to a dim corner in this old closet and kissed me so suddenly i think i reeled eyes closed head full of light you blinded me you told me not to tell her she who touched your arm and stood a little straighter in your presence like you were god and she a believer i believed you ‘til the morning next when you were kissing her by the lockers and there i was back in the dusty space full of things forgotten

i thought i saw stars in your eyes (a.p)

Draw ichor out from your veins and tell me what it’s like to burn alive Drag me into your life with quiet adoration; Adoration that swallows the ocean and outlasts each star (Tell me what it’s like to burn and I’ll burn with you, Even if my forever is less than your eternity) When my blood mixes with your tears, Remember how your mother always said that an immortal has no business being in love with a mortal, Know that you loved one anyways. When the stars finally fade from my eyes and rest gently like fire in your palms, Remember how your father always said that this would hurt, Know that he was right.

Icarus-if only you knew that every day he asks the ocean: “Where is the boy with the molten wings?” Icarus- if only you knew that he still looks for you in every wave that hits the shore, asking: “Have you seen the boy who daredto love? I have to tell him- I have to tell him that I dared to love him too.” Icarus, if you only you knew that it took everything Apollo had in him not to sink to the seabed with you.

What happens to us when we die? We’ll be gods;      worshipped and exhalted.      holding power unimaginable.      eternally lovely      and immortally lonely. We’ll be stars;      blazing gloriously.      wondered upon and wished for.      wiser beyond our years      yet helpless to the passage of time.

we dream of the day we can finally say that we’ve had enough. that night i’ll drive straight to your house before the sun has woken up. “where are we going?” “north.” we live in diners at midnight and find our faith in the homes of strangers. they smile, tell us stories about love and a woman named delilah. “how long have you loved her?” “i never knew a time where i hadn’t.” this is our world: the fleeting summer, the serene stickiness of the afternoon breeze, lovely women in skirts that sway in the wind. “i don’t think this can last for much longer.” “i know, but for now, all of this is ours.”

i’m choking on water but you and your liquor breath warm hands and salty skin cologned neck and i pretend i don’t need you. but when you’re gone i’m clambering through the desert where the pool is right there look i’m reaching, but never reaching and i am a fool. so when you come back while you’re pressing me closer and i’m drinking you in in this back alley corner where the light never hits can we pretend for a moment this this is what should be two kids fumbling in the dark reaching

do you need me too? (a.p)

juniper juniperus junio, young parere, to produce to remember the feeling of our laughter shattering the silence, unafraid. we breathed out white ghosts as our hands trembled. this winter held a vow never spoken aloud. us, always. vow votum, a promise that we would always be family. be the first one each other turned to when the warm spring sun reminded us we could not stay frozen, seventeen and not able to untangle and disengage ourselves from the weeds that grew in our homes. disengage désengager dis, do opposite engager, to pledge the french rolled off your tongue smooth as silk, you whispered phrases, holding your hand over my heart. you are my very best friend, in every language. we will walk across countries together, people will recognize us by the harmony of our laughter.

dear self, i want to give you everything i want to give you a room full of sunlight crisp spring air and mornings spent with fingers wrapped around a cup of coffee i want to give you safety a place where you will spend more time smiling and less time preparing for the next battle a home where you can but your armor away a war you’ve won a battlefield turn into garden green buds sprouting from blood soaked earth you’ve heard all your life that this pain is your chance, your inspiration but your art wasn’t created because of this it was created in spite of it in the room there will be a stacks of dog eared books taking root around the floors a cat will make her way through them you will run your fingers through her hair soft music will play and it will be enough

you open your mouth to talk, the silence fills the room. it’s always hard to turn feelings into words. you keep trying anyway hoping that someday the words will finally touch the air, reach someone and make them see that your voice matters too.

she reminded me of a summer breeze, daisies, crystal lakes and sunlight (brilliant sunlight) pouring through glass windows thrown wide open. her smile was one of indecision and hesitance but i immediately loved it anyway. also: she had freckles splattered on her cheeks. she looked my way but i looked down with a blush. i turned the other direction. for the rest of the hour i wandered near her with curiousity / awe and i wondered how someone could be so beautiful. also: her hair looked soft (was it? probably) i wanted to know her name i wanted her to see me but i hid from this ethereal stranger that i happened to notice at a bookstore (did she notice me?) and buried my feelings. also: her laugh was lovely. i nearly ran into her and an awkward smile was frozen on my face as i apologized quietly and left. also: she smelled like lavender. she held my favorite book (what was her favorite book?) and i almost wanted to tell her (my name) all about it (there’s a plot twist at the end) but i didn’t (why didn’t i?)
