Writing update 6-29-23

I don’t think ‘ long time no see’ will really cut it this time. After dropping out of college and not writing that entire year, a lot about me had changed. I still didn’t write again for a little over a year and then wrote an entire novel and didn’t write again for almost a year. I’m still not entirely sure what happened, but what I do know, is that’s it’s time for me to start writing again and…

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

I will officially stop posting writing updates here and instead transition to a new blog, this one purely for writing! I’ll still periodically be posting here, just nothing to do with writing really. I really felt like I needed a fresh start for my writing updates, and a more neat, clean page that’s not cluttered with other various posts not having to do with writing. Here’s the link if you wanna…

LOOKING FOR SERIOUS, LONG-TERM BETA READER!

Hey all! Long time no post, huh? I’ve been super busy drafting and revising multiple project these last two weeks and I’ve still got a little ways to go. I’m actually looking for a serious, long-term beta reader for my YA High Fantasy, THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN, which is heavily inspired by Celtic/Welsh myths and legends and is perfect for fans of MTV’s THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES. TDoC is currently…

Cover Reveal for QUEEN OF THE THOUSANDFOLD

Hello all! As I’ve mentioned in my last few writing/revision updates, I’m going to be self-publishing my current WIP this Summer/Fall! I’m putting it out for my family and close friends, so they can read something of mine, as many have been asking to read my new works. It will be available for the general public, so feel more than free to purchase it if you want. I’m planning on releasing the…

Hello everyone and happy Saturday! Got back from work a few hours ago and already getting to work on QUEEN OF THE THOUSANDFOLD! I mainly want to give an update on my writing progress for my family, as well as those close to me…

Revision Update 3/18/18

Happy Sunday! So, revisions are going…alright. I’m about 1K from hitting 10K in this round of revision, focusing mostly on grammar, word choice for now, making a few little plot changes here and there, as I write. At this point in draft 8, I only had 6K, and I now have 8K. This week I started rewriting THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN aka draft #9 and it’s taking soooo freaking long. I really love this…

Important Announcement! (Looking for a Beta Reader)

I’m looking for ONE serious beta reader! By serious, I mean someone who can devote as much time as necessary to my manuscript, someone who is good with quick turn around for revisions, and someone who will work very hard with me to make my story the absolute best it can be. The project I’m looking for help with is THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN. It’s currently on it’s ninth draft and it now being…

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a fantastic Friday!

I wanted to compile a list of all my current WIP, etc. for all of you, so you guys know exactly what I’m currently working on. Here we go!

  1. A HAZY SHADE OF WINTER- Complete at approximately 86,000 words. I entered this project into AMM Round 4 and have set it aside for now, until mentor picks are announced on April 16th.
  2. THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN- Draft Eight complete at approximately 61,000. Currently working on completely rewriting/revising Draft Nine. I plan to query agents with this project, possibly this Summer.
  3. THE EMPRESS OF VALERA- A Work in Progress. Currently drafting this YA Fantasy, which is a twisted Romeo and Juliet re-imagining.
  4. UNTITLED SFF- A Work in Progress. Currently drafting/outlining/plotting this untitled YA High Fantasy/Sci-Fi. Mostly working on outlining/plotting at this stage.

I’m currently focusing mostly on THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN, because it’s much farther along than the other projects. I’ve set AHSoW aside for now, until the mentor picks for AMM are announced, so I know what my next step is, etc. TDoC is actually quite close to being done/very nearly query ready. I just need to finish rewriting it, and give it a few read throughs for small grammar mistakes, plot issues, and small character arc problems.

My initial plan for TDoC is to finish rewriting it, give it a few passes on my own, maybe one or two, then hire a freelance editor to give it an intensive read through for big picture and small picture plot/character issues. I’m going to be mostly working on handling grammar on my own.

I’m actually pretty excited about this rewrite, as I quite enjoy the revision process of writing, more so than other people. There will be more updates as they become available.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update!

New WIP Announcement!

I’ve teased about a new project on Instagram a little and I’m here to finally officially announce it! It’s not a novel, but it is sort of related to that, in a way. Basically, it’s a collection of all the bookish aesthetics I’ve ever made and posted for all of my writing projects! This includes THE DAUGHTER OF CERRIDWEN, A HAZY SHADE OF WINTER, A CROWN STAINED WITH BLOOD, and my brand new WIP,…

Writing Update 3/15/18

Hello everyone! Well, tomorrow the submission window for Author Mentor Match Round 4 finally opens! I’ve got my query letter, 1-2 page synopsis, and first fifty pages finished, formatted, and edited, and I’m ready to go! I’m super happy with what I have so far with this project and I’m really hoping that I get picked by a mentor so I can take the manuscript to the next level. There’s still some…

Writing Update 3/12/18

Hello everyone! For now, I’ve set A Hazy Shade of Winter to the side, at least until AMM Round 4 passes, whether I get picked or not to be paired with a mentor. I’ve still got some work to do on the book either way, and hope to start seriously querying this summer. My plan if I don’t get selected this round of AMM is to find a few beta readers willing to help me seriously go thru AHSoW, with…

Writing Update 3/10/18 + COVER/TITLE REVEAL!

Good afternoon everyone! I’ve a little MIA today because I’ve been at SEYA Book Fest in Tennessee all day today! I met a lot of awesome authors and attended a super helpful writing workshop taught by C.J. Redwine. The workshop was probably my favorite part and I can’t wait to go back over all the notes I took! I also got the cover for A Hazy Shade of Winter’s sequel via email last night and…

Writing Update 3/9/18

Good afternoon! I just got back from a very nice solitary lunch at Noshville, an ‘Authentic New York’ Delicatessen, in Nashville, TN. I’ve decided that I should go out for brunch/lunch every once and a while, by myself. I won’t do it every week, as to not spend too much money on it. Now that I have a sort of part-time job and get a steady paycheck every two weeks, I can finally afford to go out…

Writing Update 3/8/18

Hello again everyone! I finally finished the first round of revisions on A Hazy Shade of Winter, and it is currently complete at approximately 86,000 words and nearly 300 pages. I’m all set for Author Mentor Match Round Four, and am currently giving my query and 1-2 page synopsis another read through. I’m super happy with what I have so far and hope I picked this round of AMM! I also super late…

I’ve finally finished revising part one! I’ve officially moved onto part two and chapter sixteen. I’ve got ten days to finish with part two, before AMM Round 4 submission opens on the 16th.

I’m hoping to have around 83-85K by the time I’m done, and, having done the calculations, I should have at least 83,000 words. I can’t wait to have the project be semi done, at least the way I want it to be. Re reading parts one and two has been super fun, seeing how far I’ve come with the story and with my writing.

I’ve still got a lot of work to do, but my query/synopsis are finally done, at least for now. I’m also planning on getting the manuscript professionally printed once I finish this round of revision, but this time with Staples or Office Depot, so I can pick it up in store the next day. I want a version I can use in my next round of revisions, whether I get selected by a mentor or not.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update!

Hello everyone! So far, revisions are going super well. I’m up to the ninth chapter in the rewrite of A Hazy Shade of Winter and am making a lot of awesome progress.

I’m also working on refining my query letter and 1 to 2 page synopsis for my Author Mentor Match Round 4 submission package, as well as trying to determine which three chapters/fifty pages I want to include in my submission.

On Twitter, I posted a list of things you can expect to find in A Hazy Shade of Winter and I’ll share it now;

  1. Ambitious girls with their own agendas
  2. A villainous love interest (Name redacted b/c spoilers)
  3. A protagonist who must confront the consequences of her cowardice, morally bad deeds, and blackened heart
  4. A bad person who doesn’t become good when they die (No name, b/c spoilers!)
  5. One super messed up family; an exiled princess, a dead king, a vindictive Queen, and a treacherous/conniving Usurper.
  6. Bisexual Representation
  7. Kick-ass heroines
  8. Shakespeare

A Hazy Shade of Winter is essentially Hamlet meets Macbeth meets Once Upon a Time, with a dash of an alternate timeline Russian Revolution. I’m super excited at the prospect of being paired with a mentor through Author Mentor Match Round 4, and can only hope that someone will take a chance on my weird little book.

I’m slowly working on not only rewriting the manuscript, but also on increasing both the word count and page count. I’ve only managed to get nine chapters down so far, and have my spring break from NSCC next week, so I’m planning on spending the week working on AHSoW and focusing all my attention on it.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update!
