Maybe it's just coming from being a Sailor Moon fan. but I dont get the big deal about Prodigy coming out in France first.

You have tools to avoid spoilers... unless your friends are being dicks and not tagging their shit or something. You have every reasonable expectation of the English version airing on Netflix within the year.

It was TWENTY YEARS before i could watch it legally in my own language.

I would guess it’s a combo of….

1. No release date on Netflix - therefore people have no way of knowing at present when they’ll see s2 😢 Sure they’ve said 2024 but that’s nebulous atm. When in 2024? There’s no ‘finish line’ for the wait. It’s kinda like that VOY ep where the EMH gives himself a cold and programs it to end after a certain amount of time and then Kes extends it without telling him and the uncertainty about how much longer it will be sends him. It’s Schrödinger's release date at this point. 😂

2. Prod being mishandled by Paramount to date - the cancellation / delib abandonment of S2 after a release date had been given for it in 2023 😢, leading to fans having to fight for the show, etc, I’m sure you know the story. I think some are worried the release in France will affect ratings on Netflix.

3. The show-runners being surprised by the release in France - Paramount has pulled the rug out from under them again. And I guess the fans as well. People paid for that ‘save the show’ banner to be flown over Netflix HQ and now the show releases with no warning on alternative platforms in a specific area to a limited amount of people. Like what the actual?!

4. I’ve been a JCer since I was 7 years old. I’m 34 now. I think I’ve waited long enough to find out what these two idiots are to each other 😅😂

5. As you pointed out, the fear of being spoiled. Sure there are tools to avoid spoilers but it just takes one slip up to spoil someone’s enjoyment of the show. Also not all of us have great willpower, even if we don’t want to be spoiled 😅😂🙈

6. Fair play to all the French fans who have enjoyed Prod so far and been so careful to protect the rest of the fandom. 🇫🇷 🫡 I think it’s such a shame they are having to moderate themselves with the rest of the fandom instead of everyone being able to analyse and flail and enjoy the new eps together.

i am not disagreeing that the abrupt release and lack of clear communication are unfair to the show. And i am just as upset by how it caught the creators by surprise... But I take issue with the last part of your response.

Why should French speaking fans even have to censor themselves?

It's their show too and its been available for over a week. Americans certainly didnt think they had to censor themselves when it was only available in select countries in season one. It feels very much like a double standard when there are fairer and common sense and common practice measures one can take to alert others of spoilers and to avoid spoilers.

From an Australian Star Trek fan, who was spoiled for Voyager months/years before the VCR tapes trickled into our local Blockbuster, YEAH.

The entitlement on some (not all) American Prodigy fans is unreal.

On that note, I can read JUST enough French to be super excited at what may be the first S2 Prodigy fanfic posted...

This is a Nazi talking point. This is a technique for conversion and indoctrination designed to shame YOU into not checking your sources. After all, a famous person in a position of authority (whether we like that or not) is shaming the very idea that Nazis persecuted trans people, or that trans people have a history that goes back more than a few decades.

She is in deep. She is literally friends with known Nazis. She will have been told that the people saying Nazis burned books have unreliable sources. That is why she's saying this.

You'll note that George doesn't @ her. Apart from the fact that literally starting beef with her is likely not something he needs, he knows she is a lost cause. She is primed to dismiss the actual sources. He is sharing the true information, with sources, because her statements mean that other people will now be wondering about this and he's offering those people an alternative famous person authority AS WELL AS the facts.

Watching it in French REALLY won't do it justice anyway.

one of my favorite stupid things to do in fanfic is to throw two characters together who literally never interact. and then give them an entire, fleshed-out relationship dynamic that exists nowhere but my own head. yes they’ve literally never spoken. yes their relationship is important to me. hope this helps.

so this one has breached containment a bit but like, in a fun way. i love reading the tags and having no idea who you’re talking about but reveling in our shared experience of silly fanfics. or, sometimes, KNOWING who you’re talking about and going “dang that is niche love that”. please continue to tag this with every fictional character dynamic that never happened that you’ve gotten invested in I love them. also please continue calling out your friends I love that too
